When i was 7 years old, my family and I moved to United States where my parents believed my sister and I would have better “education opportunities.” Being raised in a whole different culture than where i was born made the person who I am today. My parents traditional Korean culture and the American culture has taught me how to integrate different perspectives, how to value every individual's culture, and how to listen, communicate and understand an individual more thoroughly and carefully. Even though i did not agree to all the cultural aspects that my parents expected me to follow, they imparted me with values, such as sympathy and respect to others, stressing the importance of giving back to the community. Through these assets, beliefs, …show more content…
As i was escorting her to restroom, she decided to just let my hand go and sit on her dining room chair thinking it was the toilet. As I was about to get her back up to get cleaned up, her daughter was standing by the door crying after seeing what her mother did. The daughter was just so shocked how rapidly her mother was declining but i was able to give her comfort even though it was my first time meeting them. I felt a sense of complete wholeness that i had not felt before. Ever since that day, caregiving has not only made me feel complete but has given me more motivation to continue my nursing career path.
Nursing synthesizes caregiving in way that utilizes my natural strengths while benefiting others. My core professional beliefs are valuing each individual as a whole and giving holistic care to all patients.
Unfortunately, the college I am attending does not have a Bachelor’s in Nursing program. However, Seattle University offers this program and pursuing my education here would be an impeccable way for me to continue my studies. In addition to being recognized for having strong commitment and dedication in community involvement and social justice, Seattle University is devoted on maintaining a diverse student population. As a person of Korean heritage, seeing this commitment in diversity that Seattle University holds, seems to be my immense
My paper talks about the five general sociology concepts that I learned to using my family. I picked my family because I think they were the most relatable and easy group that would be more beneficial and knowledgeable to discuss regarding the concepts. My family consist of a father, mother, two boys, and a girl, not including me. My parents speak three languages and my siblings only speak one due to the language influence while they were in school. Culture is very important to my family not only the language, and attire but the values of what the culture teaches. Such as, the man being the head of the household and everything must run through him. The woman is taught to cook, clean and take care of the things inside the household. The kids
My personal nursing mission statement is changing and developing as my career advances, however, one core piece will remain constant. I will strive to provide the best, safest, most ethical and compassionate nursing care that I can for all patients and family members with whom I come in contact. I began my post-high school academic career as an accounting major. I enjoyed the challenge of manipulating a report until I had balanced. I thought I had found my calling. As my first semester was nearing an end, I found myself contemplating the thought of sitting behind a desk all day. I wondered
The Purnell Domains of Culture assessment gives a vast amount of information in regards to a persons cultural background, family and heritage that gives care provides a better understanding of their client or clients family. As a future care provider, I took the time to speak to Mrs. Smith about herself and family to gain insight on whom they are as a family and what influences them to be who they are today. Over the course of the domains of culture I have been able to increase my perception of who and what drives this family and how their beliefs came about.
This paper explores the personal nursing philosophy I plan to convey in my personal career. This philosophy is going to be described in my own terms to explain what being a nurse means to me. I believe that there are a number of factors that are important to be successful in the nursing field. I believe that being a nurse it takes commitment to accountability, professionalism, and compassion for the ill. I will explain each one of these in my paper and what they mean to me.
The greatest aspect about nursing is that it is never going to be just a job and is even more than a merely profession. Instead, it is a belief system or way of life and not a discipline that can simply be practiced then abandoned to the dictates of a time clock. To simply say that “I love people” or want to “help people get better” does not demonstrate the drive behind this feeling. Articulating my philosophy is not an easy task, to better explain my philosophy of nursing, I am going to use some values that I have learned. These tools truly explain how I feel and what has motivated me to pursue nursing as a career.
Nursing is based on caring in nursing. Compassion and concern for protecting and enhancing the
Most important to my philosophy of nursing is the health and well-being of the entity seeking nursing care. To further define, nursing can be called upon to treat not only one individual, but a group of individuals, or a community. In my personal experience, I have worked almost exclusively with one individual, however I feel my philosophy could be applied to groups and
Individuals may not want to admit that every individual may be ethnocentric in some way. I’m ethnocentric since, my ancestor and grandparents of my parents of my mother and deceased father has established a concrete foundations from an African American and Indian perspective for my life and culture that I’m very grateful to represent. During the duration of my family cultural convolution which consisted of integrating both cultures beliefs and morals to unify one strong foundation as a norm for my generation demonstrate the same morals, beliefs, and values from two cultures. The thing I appreciate is that I have the ability to sustain such a strong strength of belief that my moral stood for greatness for me to become more empowered to become
To me nursing is more than treating an illness; rather it is also focusing on delivering quality patient care individualized to the needs of each patient. My philosophy of nursing incorporates the knowledge of medicine while combining it with relational, compassionate caring that respects the dignity of each patient. I believe each patient should be treated as an individual and given the best quality of care, regardless of their age, race, sexual orientation, gender, religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, or immoral choices they may have made.
Everyone’s values and beliefs about the profession of nursing are all different. The four concepts of nursing are interrelated and all mean something different to every person, too. Throughout this paper, I will be reflecting on my values and beliefs about nursing through the four concepts while comparing them to a nursing theorist with views that are most similar to my own.
My personal philosophy of nursing is based on my understanding and knowledge of medicine combined with practical, compassionate patient based care that culturally respects each patient while at the same time fulfilling their healthcare needs. My philosophy focuses just not on delivering patient based
Me and my brother Silas were born a year apart . He was born in 1956 and I in 1957. Our families history is a dark past , where evil flows through our blood. They were all devil worshipers ,that went back to the 1800s till now. My family was known as scratchers back in the day , nickname for what they were . They would worship animals , then blend in with the outside world , in order to survive . They would let one woman conceive as many babies as they wished , in order to keep the bloodline and tradition going. The active worshipers would eventually get caught or die alone , keeping the bloodline going would make their work never end. By the time me and my brother Silas were brought into the world , the tradition was still going , but it wasn't a demanding ritual like in the past .
My professional development plan is to grow as a nurse by obtaining knowledge through school and daily life and work experiences. In five to 10 years, I will be able care for patients and their families as a nurse practitioner. Setting short-term and long-term goals will help guide through the journey to transition into the role of professional nursing and provide new opportunities for the future. Beliefs and values influence the decisions or choices people make in their personal and professional lives. My philosophy of nursing incorporates my beliefs and values, which includes being an advocate for patients and
My approaches to caring include compassion, grace, service, presence, love, empowerment, partnership, justice and advocacy. I believe that an effective nurse thinks critically, communicates effectively, feels deeply, interacts meaningfully, assumes responsibility, acts morally, approaches clients within a partnering framework, understands that people’s needs vary with developmental stage and cultural background, and views people holistically, recognizing that health encompasses both wellness and illness. I believe that I believe the nature of nursing is rooted in commitment to public service and the undeniable desire to help those in need. Nursing is more than treating an illness; rather it is focused on delivering quality patient care that is individualized to
