Music has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, some of my earliest memories were wandering around record stores with my dad. My dad has always been an avid music and record collector. When I was about five years old he closed down his pizzeria and started his own online and mail order business selling hard to find and obscure records and CDs. A few years later he expanded his business by opening up a record store in Downers Grove, IL. As a result, from an early age I was exposed to a lot of different types of music. Sure it was common for parents to put on The Beatles for their kids to listen to, but on top of that I was grew up on a steady diet of Queen, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Jimi Hendrix, …show more content…
That was the time where The Backstreet Boys were all the rage. I clearly remember going to birthday parties where they would play popular music and I would not recognize any of the songs they were playing. Girls would talk about how cute Justin Timberlake was, and while I had heard of him, I had no clue if he was from ’N Sync or The Backstreet Boys (and to this day I still don’t know or really care to know). At that time it was not much of a problem, but more of an annoyance. This changed when I moved in fifth grade. The school that I had moved from was very small, so when I moved to a bigger school a few towns away, it was harder for me to fit in. Not being able to connect to my new peers with music was pretty detrimental to me. For one, my music taste greatly impacted the way I dressed. A lot of girls wore clothes from Limited Too and I wore a lot of tie dye and band tees. Secondly, fifth grade is the time where people first start to really develop their music taste. Since my taste in music was so much different than my peers, I had a hard time connecting with them. Because I was different from the other kids I would sometimes get picked on and as a consequent, it made it harder for me to make new
Music is a passion of mine and has been for a long time (it's in my blood.) My dad played the bass guitar in a few groups, and he sings in our church's choir. His taste of music has been passed down and adopted by my brother and me.
At the beginning, music has and always will be an important thing in my life. When I am on a road trip or am doing something that takes an extended period of time, I know I can turn on Spotify and drift into my own world. Also, if I ever feel perturbed or dejected, I can listen to my favorite album and feel great again. Third, music helps me prepare for activities such as football games or school. Lastly, music assists me whenever I’m working on something such as homework or a project for school.
Music had a great impact on my secondary socialization during my second decade. It had an impact on my Self Socialization as well. Music in my peer groups reflected in my choice of listening preference. I began to formulate who I was outside of my parents and other family. I formed friendships with others my age with different interests that showed me there was even more to explore in life. During this time mass media was changing and cable television was becoming popular. Along with cable, MTV was brand new. Yes, I was an original MTV viewer. MTV brought music even more into view in my life. My television stayed tuned to MTV. I awoke and went to sleep listening to the popular music of the day. It was the ‘80’s. Music favorites then were
One of the largest parts of my life for the past few years has been music. I has been like a home and it definitely provides a connection for me. Many of my favorite songs are relatable to me in some way. They may describe an aspect of my life, or even a specific way that I feel. Having this thing that I can relate to and actually understand is such an amazing thing.
Music is my life when I was little my dad introduced me to all types of music. We listen to hip-hop, reggae, old school, country, and jazz. We believe that as long as it has a good beat and a message that what makes that a great song.Being that my dad is from New Jersey I have this Northern flavor to my lifestyle. It is truly present in my taste in music. Many people say that I'm a little weird when they listen to the type of music I listen too.
There was a period in my life when I gave careful consideration to music. This time, is known as youth. I was excessively occupied with my Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joes to try and consider music. This shouldn't imply that I didn't hear it out, however. Regardless of the frightful music we know so warmly call "the 80's" that was playing on the radio stations when a was a kid, despite everything I tuned in. I began focusing when I was nine years of age, and that is the point at which my tribulation with music all began. To pick up a superior comprehension of how music has changed my life throughout the years, we should begin from the earliest starting point of my musical learning course of events.
Fifth grade was the year, the year everyone at Oak Ridge Elementary School looked forward to. This was the year we got to ditch the recorder, and pick up a real instrument. A violin. As expected, we learned the basics; nothing more than the names of the parts of the instrument, and how to play the open strings. But ever since that day in 2011, I have been irrevocably in love with playing the violin.
I have always loved music as long as I can remember. I remember the days when I would have to wake up extra early to go to school as a 7 year old because I had to go to my piano lesson two hours before school even started. My mom
Music has been a part of my life since the beginning. My Grandma Hammond, a music teacher, had me start right off into piano when I turned 7 years old. She has been my music teacher since then. I was taught all genres of music starting from classical to what is popular now. My favorite genres to learn were Jazz and Rock music pieces. I remember when I was the age of 12, I begged her to let me learn and play the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen for one of my music festivals. My Grandma disagreed at once about my idea because it was required of the piano students to play a classical piano piece. I was a good student and learned that festival piece, but little did she know I would also teach myself Bohemian Rhapsody and play it after my classical
There, my dad and I sat in the band hall, this would be the first of many times that I would step foot into a band hall. I remember feeling so excited to get to play an instrument. My brother Jake, who had passed away when I was 8 due to heart failure, would have been so proud to hear I was following in his footsteps and taking up the saxophone. I remember this day like it was yesterday and thanks to my brother’s influence on me band would be my life for the next 7 years.
The events that took place on June 1st, 2013 is almost a blur, although, the sensation has always been ever so clear to me. I felt alive. I felt enchanted. And I felt wanted. Almost every little problem vanished for that one specific night. Who would’ve thought a single person can make you feel invincible? Cristian, was nearly the opposite the person I was. He was true rock and roll, and I was merely the product of the mainstream rock phenomena. He almost seemed very opinionated as I had always kept to myself, It was odd and a little unexpected. Although we both are very timid from the naked eye, to my surprise he was actually very witty and humorous. One lonely night at a park was the beginning of a very long and faithful friendship.
Growing up, I was always surrounded with music, whether it be on the record at home, the IPod, live music, or the built
My transcripts show that I only participated in band my freshman and sophomore years. Band became a necessary sacrifice because I still needed to fit in graduation requirements and a load of AP classes to my junior and senior year schedules; however, my music career did not end! I found a way to continue playing the bass guitar in my church praise band, and I am currently going on my sixth year of playing. I will be flexible in continuing my music career, whether it be in a class or a club, because it is definitely an activity that has become important to me.
Most of the music influence I have was harvested back when I was eleven. I listened to a wide variety of genres of music from pop, to rock, to rap, to country, to concert band music, even to Bollywood music as that’s what would be playing in my home as my mom cooked food for all of us.
Music, it's a part of everyone's life. From childhood sing-a-long songs, to garage grunge music, and everything in between music is everywhere. Growing up with an extremely musical background it was in my genes that I would become a musician. Playing music has helped me become the person I am by being a release for my anger, broadening my future and make new friends..
