There are 22.1 million noncitizens in America and my aunt's mother used to be one of them. This essay will tell all about it. In “American history”, Music for my Mother, and The Writing on the Wall. Being an immigrant means that to start becoming an American which meant the Cultural difference, prejudices, and to have hope. The adjustments that immigrants have to go through is disturbing for example in cultural difference. They will have to go through differences in many things like cultural difference for example, in “Music for my mother” in paragraph 5 it says, “Pedrito or I would occasionally correct them or help them finish their sentences in English. Papa would thank us. Mama would just smile and shake her head. But she always repeated the words we had helped her with it.” His mother only knew Spanish and never learned English that well at all. This is an example of cultural divergence in America most people speak English so when an immigrant comes to America immigrants have to know how to speak English. …show more content…

For example, in “the writing on the wall” it says, “ You will not know men from as 80 other countries have suffered the same fate as you, but you will know that the women and small children kept in another building, that the Asian men separated from the European men, that the European men received comparably better treatment than the Asian men, and that though you can see Oakland through the window of the wooden building you do not know if you will ever walk its streets.” So they were treating the Europeans better than the Asians and that's the treatments that immigrants may see but have to adjust to it. Another example is in American history (pg 4), it says “didn't you eat your rice and beans and pork chops for breakfast today”.
