A number of car incidents have been associated with the errors in the ignition switch, which could possibly disable the airbag, the power steering and breaks. Due to this issue at least 13 deaths and numerous injuries have been found (Isidore, 2014) with the General Motors Company. This investigation was given to an engineer in Florida, Mark Hood, to file for a lawsuit against General Motors and to try to figure out what was the cause of these accidents. It was revealed that the tiny metal plunger in the switch was smaller than the original size and needed less force to turn the ignition off (Isidore, 2014).

The threat of not being able to listen to your own music in the privacy of your own home is expanding further as the years progress and our society grows. Music is a large contribution to many Americans everyday life. Whether its calming and relaxing or energetic and loud, it can help people get a job done. Censorship is the suppression of any information which may be considered sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient , this is determined by governments, media outlets, authorities or other groups or institutions. Music has played a large role in the idea of censorship for centuries because it voices opinions about others beliefs or it contain explicit language.

People are more influenced by other people than they are music. Censoring music now will not make a change. Individuals are already informed about alcohol, drugs, and sex, so removing the content from music has no purpose. Countless music videos have been banned by the BBC or MTV for the content.

One of the earliest instances of music censorship occurred betwen 469-399 B.C.E., when Plato and Socrates called for censorship of popular music. Thousands of years later, music censorship still affects democratic societies, like the United States. Popular music has been a driving force because of its role in shaping, critiquing, and celebrating American culture. It provides a platform that protests, calls for change and works as a strong emotional outlet. Additionally, popular music has long served as a common ground for racial divides in America, first with jazz and now with hip-hop (Humphreys, p. 6). However, ultimately, scholars recognize that popular music is really about “political and/or cultural domination” (Humphreys, p. 4) and this analysis seeks to determine the forces that undermine such domination.

Censorship in music has been a major problem plaguing America since the early nineteen forties. It came to a head during the nineteen sixties with the Vietnam War and the hippie movement. During the nineteen seventies and eighties heavy metal and hard rock were getting the brunt of the censorship heat. Now in the nineteen nineties the major focus of censorship is rap; primarily gangster rap. Some of the main factors of music in general that cause legal ramifications are sexual content, suggestive violence and obscene language. Censorship is an attack against our first amendment right guaranteeing the freedom of speech. However if a song or album is deemed obscene the first amendment does not protect this.

Some take censorship to a whole other level. Many people argue that censorship within music, movies, etc. should not be allowed. This meaning artists, actors and actresses should have the freedom to say or do whatever they wanted too. Some believe censorship in music inhibits others from enjoying the essential parts of songs and that it limits a person’s freedom of speech.

It is true that the meaning of a song can de drastically changed when censored; however, the artist’s ability to freely express is retained as long as legality is retained. To begin with, censoring today’s musical content would be a waste of time and money, our society has more serious problems than the words coming from the radio, banning these words wont help, we could focus on the respect we give to eachother, then our good maners would stop the verbal insults and argument provoking statements.

Every parent out there wants absolutely nothing but the best for their children. In life, parents will do anything to make sure their kids have more than what they did. They strive to make sure their kids to do whatever it takes to become successful in this world. As you are raised, you are taught to never talk to strangers, always respect your elders, and never use profanity. Our parents were raised in a whole different domain before we were brought into this world. So many daily things have changed, from the way we turn on the television in the morning to how we get to school or work. Things have transformed; for example, explicit music was not criticized as much as it is now because music was very monitored back then. In those days, profanity wasn’t ever heard of because it was banned in almost every household. Music containing profanity does not appeal to most adults because of their maturity level and values in life; but it does appeal to teens because of their maturity level, rebellious behavior, and their naive mindset.
