The history of music has been traced back by researchers to before 2,500 years ago. It was used by the earliest human civilizations known to mankind. Our ancestors used music to worship and practice religious texts. With the use of music in ancient times, it has paved a pathway for artists of all types to express themselves without having to verbally speak. While music was created mainly for religious reasons, it has developed throughout time and there is now over a thousand types of musical genres. New styles of music were not introduced to the public until after The Middle Ages in an era called the Renaissance.
The Renaissance, which occurred during the early fifteenth century, led the population to have a refreshed attitude and perspective of art forms. As a result of the Renaissance, more people considered music as a serious art form and a way to demonstrate their feelings. Instrumental music and dance music was created at this time to sway away from the previous church music. Music used for pleasure and entertainment would later inspire music artists to compose a new style of music called opera.
After the end of the Renaissance, the Baroque period took place around the year 1600. This music overtook Italy first, but later the majority of Europe because of its sophisticated and advanced form in comparison to the music of the Renaissance. The Myth of Music Analysis The poem, “The Myth of Music,” was written to show people the value of family and paternal love, through Rachel M. Harper’s point of view of music. She employs imagery by describing the people and music in her family, form by using run on sentences as syntax, and tone of reminiscence to convey the relationship between music and her complex memories of her family. Her effective use of diction, shifts, structure, and details is weaved through the poem and, they strengthen her message. Harper’s word choice shows music was an important part of her memories of her family.

Music has probably been around since the beginning of times. Before instruments, sounds were considered music. People started to make instruments, which mimic nature’s sounds.
This concert consisted of four pieces, all played by two musicians: one on piano and the other on viola. Four pieces were included in this concert. They varied significantly in terms of their historical era, their style, their composition, and the overall feel. The first piece was by Ludwig van Beethoven. It was Beethoven's 7 Variations on 'Bei M채nnern, welche Liebe f체hlen', which is "For Men Who Feel Love" from Mozart's "The Magic Flute." The second piece was a Sonata in G-minor Op.19, which was written originally for cello and piano. It was by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). It was arranged and the cello part changed to fit the viola by Jeffrey Showell. The third piece was Sonata No.2 in D-Major by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). It was originally written for viola da gamaba. E. Nauman edited this piece for the concert. Finally, we heard what was originally written for an orchestra: Concerto for viola and piano by William Walton (1902-1983). Although the same two instruments played four different pieces, they each sounded completely unique.
Music during the Baroque period was diverse and composers began to rebel against the styles that were popular during the Renaissance. In the Baroque era music was driven by the text and the emotions behind it. Vocal and sacred music developed greatly during the Baroque period. During the mid-17th century the Italian phenomenon opera dominated most of the theatres in Europe. Sacred music was deeply influenced by the opera, contributing to the development of the oratorio and cantata genre. The opera, oratorio, and cantata contain musical similarities; among all three genres they feature recitative, soloist orchestras, and duet arias.
Throughout the early years of music there were numerous examples of different forms of music that were on the rise while others were deemed to be ushered out. As these new styles of music were becoming more popular they had to fight against groups and individuals that were resisting the change. There were various reasons why people did not approve to new styles of music, including racial tensions, raunchy or obscene movements, and inappropriate movements. Even though there was a lot of resistance to these movements there were a couple key players that helped guide these movements into the national spotlight.

There were reinventions of music as it was widespread and popular. Without this essential time in history, modern music may have been completely different from what we have today. Cruel and unusual? This is one of the main questions debated when dealing with capital punishment. Capital punishment, or the death penalty, has been used for centuries as a means to discipline those who have committed heinous crimes. As time has progressed, so have the methods of executions including hanging, firing squads, electric chair, lethal gas, and lethal injection. The question that continues to arise surrounds the idea that these methods are being perceived more and more as cruel and unusual. Capital punishment is cruel and unusual, costly, does not deter crime rates and should be ruled unconstitutional in all states.

Music has been around for many years. I, for one, have been listening to music for my entire life and I know many people who grew up listening to music. Music influences people and people shape their life around music. Music can brighten anyone’s day. The great thing about music is that it comes in many different styles: Pop, Jazz, Classical, Country, Blues, Rock and Roll, Rap, Hip Hop and Techno, to name a few. How did music originate?
