Self-talk in most cases is an inner monologue however, for Ali he decided to voice his motivation. Ali used this technique to raise his arousal levels to fall into the optimal performance bracket. While elevating his opponent’s arousal so much so that his rival drops into an over aroused state. By angering his opponent into an over aroused state his competitor is no longer as focused or as attentive.
Famous for his trash talk and psyching out his opponents, especially in the 1960 match against Jimmy Jones.

Muhammad Ali came into the boxing world under his birth name, Cassius Marcellus Clay (“Muhammad Ali”). He quickly made an imprint in the boxing world after becoming the heavyweight champion over the highly favored Sonny Liston at only 22 years old. On April 28, 1967, Ali refused draft to Vietnam claiming, “I ain’t got no quarrel with those Vietcong,” being a part of the Nation of Islam or the “Black Muslims” (“Muhammad Ali”).

Cassius clay, one of the world’s most distinguished boxers, was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 7, 1942. Clays work ethic was apparent even in the early years of his life. As a child, he raced the school bus to school each morning. His friends would wave to him as the lead fluctuated based on the school bus’ stops. This work ethic extended to the classroom. Because of a learning disability, Clay had to work extra hard in school to not fall behind. Clay grew up with racial segregation all around him.
