A young man comes up and attempts to steal your purse/wallet, what would you do? Most people would try to call for help or just try to get their money back but not Mrs. Jones. In Langston Hughes’s “Thank you Ma’am” Mrs. Jones decides to try to teach him a lesson. Not by beating the snot out of him but by taking him to her home, cleaning him up, giving him something to eat, and giving him the money that he wanted for new shoes. Sometimes a little dose of kindness can go a long way, Roger knows what he did is wrong and that sometimes you need to ask and you shall receive. In “Thank You, Ma’am” by Langston Hughes the woman was extremely soft-hearted. When she was walking at night this young man tried to rob her for her purse, but was very unsuccessful considering the fact that Mrs Jones was a large woman. Mrs. Jones was kind enough to turn the envy that she could have had toward the boy, into something helpful. Even though the man tried to rob her, she still went out of her way to welcome the young man like he was her own. She enhanced him with knowledge of dignity and manners.
