Mrs. Board Observation

In the words of Gary D. Schmidt of The Wednesday Wars, the qualities that I think that makes Mrs. Baker a good teacher are, her hospitality and acting mother like towards Holling. Mrs. Baker is a kind hearted, sweet teacher. She takes care of her student as if they were her children by blood, and helps them understand more literature by reading Shakespeare's novels. She might want you to do essays and a cross out a lot of answers with a red pen, but she cares for everyone.

During my life I have had several teachers with who I hold in high regard. Mr. Anthony Arico, Mr. Marty Berger, and Mrs. Edna Thomas to name a few. Even though all of the above named teachers had a very profound effect on my life; my all-time favorite teacher would be SSG Daniel Spencer retired. He was my ROTC instructor for approximately two years and has been a mentor throughout my adult life.

Through twelve years of school the teacher that stands out is my band teacher, Amanda Posey. She made me a better person, helped me grow up, and taught me many skills that I will use. She has made a positive impact and difference on my life. Posey has a passion for teaching music, teaches life lessons, and challenges her students making her an amazing teacher.

She was unapologetic about treating her students, especially her honors ones, like adults. She was strict about plagiarism and demanded our full efforts. Within our social studies curriculum, she found ways to infuse valuable life lessons and talk

The teachers profiled in “Unforgettable Miss Bessie”, “My Favorite Teacher”, and “And the Orchestra Played On” are remembered and admired by the narrators. Miss Bessie, Miss Hattie, and Mr. K. possessed significant qualities that made them remarkable educators. They inspired and encouraged students. They only wanted the best for their students and prepared them for their futures, enabling them to overcome difficulties in school. Besides the content of their subject matter these educators their taught students to believe that their lives and future all depends from themselves: whether they would choose the clean asphalt road or dirty, bumpy one.

Mrs. Kobesky is my favorite teacher, She would teach to us like a renowned preacher. Gave us knowledge every day - as she always use to say, “‘To give our best shot, to give it all the way.” While teaching ELA, Math, and SS too, she would always say: “It’s almost time for Science, hooray!”

Wiest took the time to listen to my troubles and work with me outside of class. She even invited me to come drink tea in her office if I needed a break or was not feeling well. But more importantly, she helped me put everything into perspective and I made some tough decisions. I cut down on my work hours, took a few months off from orchestra, took less volunteer opportunities, and learned to prioritize my responsibilities. Mrs. Wiest also helped me with my work when I was falling behind and let me take her finals at different times to balance my work load. I panicked when everything got difficult, but she supported me. If any teacher has made an impact on me during my academic career, it was certainly Mrs. Wiest. She goes above and beyond for her students and wants everyone to succeed. Throughout my elementary school years I was worried and stressed out because I had a speech class that I went to three days a week when I was in kindergarten. Mrs. Mackenzie was an awesome teacher, she made us feel welcomed there and she cared about her students. Kindergarten through third grade,

While observing Mrs. Cirrincione, I liked her classroom management skills. The students seemed to know what was expected of them at all times. Mrs. Cirrincione also connected much of the students’ lessons to their personal interests, which means she has taken the time to get to know each of her students. Mrs. Cirrincione pulled sticks throughout the day giving each student the opportunity to participate. Throughout several of the lessons, Mrs. Cirrincione would give the students helpful hints to remember the content. I struggle to remember new content, so I appreciate that Mrs. Cirrincione took the time to teach strategies to help the students

While my teacher and I did have our struggles I did learn a lot from her. I will use some of her techniques in my future classroom. One of them is at the beginning of each day she allowed that students time to talk. Along with get out all of the materials they need for the class that day. I came up with an idea during this time when I was with her to play a “Name that Song” game with the students. This was a great way for them to use comprehension skills with songs they love to listening to. I also loved how during the week she has an agenda paper hung up in her classroom. It wasn't until she went to do fieldwork in schools, that she decided to become a teacher. She realized, through inspiring teachers and students she worked with, that she wanted to do just what every teacher that inspired her to do. She wants to be seen as a positive role model to her students and teach them how to cooperate with each one another. She wants to leave the great impact that each of her teachers has left on her, and she wants to have a positive impact on their lives. Getting to know a student and understanding their lives and possible hardships they face, can have a huge impact on how a student views you. Being there for your student, being supportive, being understanding, are just a few qualities all teachers should

Throughout the lesson she would walk around and interact with the students to make should they were on task and understanding the assignment. She provided visual aids to assist in the lesson and allowed students to pair with each other in order to provide extra help. Students had to sit up straight in class and track the teacher while she was at the board during whole group instruction. One thing I really loved because its someshing I do in my classroom. All students were required to raise their hands when asked a respond to a question regarding the lesson.

Another class that I enjoyed was English 2 taught by Mrs. Smith. Yea some people think she is though on her students, that’s because she is but I think that it has a purpose. She gives some challenging assignment that nobody wants to do but somehow she motivates us to complete them. I remember two projects that were fun and effective, not only as school work but to help sharpen our people skills. One of those projects was to write a children’s story book based on an activist from the civil rights movement. Once we completed our book we took part in a field trip to two elementary schools here in Barstow, once there we assigned to a five person groups and we also received a list with the room numbers that we were to visit. We read our books to first as well as to second graders. After we I finished I had some of the children write their named on the back of my book.

At the Intermediate School I was able to observe a 5th grade math class taught by Mrs. Geanolos. Overall, her class was really interesting to watch, and I pulled a lot of good strategies from her lesson. Most impressive was her ability to calming handle crisis. In the middle of morning work a student’s nose started bleeding, resulting in a trip to the nurse and having to call a crew to clean the blood. Never once did she become flustered or frustrated. She was calm and collected, and her class was not thrown into chaos as a result. Her room was also really organized. I was especially drawn to her missing work calendar.

Her class of teachers take their jobs very seriously, and do not tolerate students who skip or disrupt their classes. These teachers are fun, because once you get them off on some irrelevant tangent, they will keep themselves going on it for entire class segments, trying to get out years of thought and consideration in just a short period of time. This is how I got to know my psychology teacher, because I was the one who kept her talking, so that the class could avoid taking the quiz that none of us had studied for. Teachers like her have the innate gift to educate and entertain, with their comprehensive lessons and subtle quirks.
