Mr Kektelsleger's Effective Communication Skills

Officer Billstein has excelled at providing customer and public service. After Officer Billstein attended CIT training in April I noticed marked improvement in his ability to handle difficult situations. I observed Officer Billstein deescalate several situations where citizens were upset when we arrived on scene. Officer Billstein's display of courtesy and sensitivity, especially during tense situations, reflect in a very positive manner to the public.

This past year of 2015 and 2016, Corporal Walton has performed an excellent job while in the supervisory capacity in the Classification Department. She maintains a clear organizational structure within the department. She ensures that her staff complies with administrative policies, processes and procedures. When it comes to the transportation of inmates in or out of the facility Corporal Walton ensures that her staff is aware of all aspects of safety and security.

Lt. Kessinger has “modeled the way” for everyone under his command. First, he has previous experience as a homicide detective and therefore understands the job and all that comes with it. He often will tell stories of pervious cases he was involved in and share strategies he used in solving his cases. Sometimes these strategies are applicable to the current on-going case, sometimes they are not, but either way he provides relevant information and the detectives respect it. The strategies shared are not always ones that have been successful. He will share his failures and mistakes in cases, as well. As stated above, Officer Mathews has very good tactical skills. Officer Mathews always practices good officer safety and is aware of his surroundings. Officer Mathews uses good judgment when responding to calls and waits for his back up to arrive.

Jim is able to perform an appropriate shift turnover before and after his shift. The information which Jim turns over is practical and helps others to run the hourly trading desk properly. Jim demonstrates good use of his communication skills when using Einstein to document the events of the day. He keeps e-mail messages on target and to the point through clear and concise means of communicating. Jim knows how to develop relationships and he is not afraid to engage people in conversation. Active listening is an attentive and interactive form of listening. One of the primary objectives of active listening is establishing and achieving empathy among all parties engaged in communication together. The words a person uses during communication are important, yet active listening includes listening to a person's words as well as interpreting and intuiting what a person feels and thinks. Active listening is a highly engaging activity. Active listening requires the person doing the listening to have a very keen awareness of all aspects of the communication. Active listening then is a sensory activity that challenges the listener to see, hear, sense, perceive, understand, feel, empathize, and reciprocate.

When writing your report or any other documents other people will need or see, it is important to use proper spelling and grammar. The vocabulary used should be words that are easily understood by many, if you make your document filled with police jargon or overly technical terminology, the common people would have a difficult time relating or being able to understand.

Being an excellent listener is one of the best ways to become a good communicator. Throughout the group work, the author demonstrated great communication skills when listening to her team’s different ideas and then taking them on board to create the best results. Fellow team members will appreciate good listening skills, and so in return, it will have a positive impact to the group’s mood, and encouraging them to be confident to speak up and say their thoughts as they know their ideas are being listened too.

What does it mean to live consciously? To live consciously means to take every aspect of your life and try to look deeper into what is going on. In his book, Branden tries to take different aspects of life and try to explain to the reader how it is that we can live consciously. In the beginning, Branden starts off with the simple things to address and then moves his way up throughout the book to explain the more complicated things we deal with in our daily lives.
