On July 31st, 2015, at Lincoln Center: Avery Fisher Hall, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra: Mozart and Brahms took place. The performers for that evening were Jeremy Denk, the pianist and Louis Langrée as the conductor. The performances that were played that night were Chaconne in D minor for piano left hand by composer Johann Sebastian Bach and Johannes Brahms, Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K.466 by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Symphony No. 4 in E minor by composer Johannes Brahms. The symphony was excellent in my opinion. The first performance, Chaconne in D minor for piano left hand wasn’t my favorite one but the last two were spectacular. He was one of the most well-known and influential composers in the Classical Era. In the early years of his life, Mozart proved to be a prodigy. Growing up he “mastered the universal technical difficulties of musical composition, such as counterpoint, harmony, fugue, variation, instrumentation, and formal planning (of arias, ensembles, sonatas, and rondos); yet all this learning never suppressed the element of fantasy. Mozart excelled in virtually every genre and style” (Rushton, Paragraph 1) Mozart composed over 600 works varying from concertos, operas, sonatas, and symphonies. During the years 1782—1785, Mozart performed a series of concerts, earing him a substantial amount of wealth. In 1786, he returned to opera where his career began to slowly decline, causing him and his family to change from the comfortable lifestyle they grew accustom to living frugally. 1791, the year Mozart died was a year of great productivity. He wrote many new works, such as The Magic Flute, Clarinet Concerto K.622, and Ave verum corpus K.618. Unfortunately, he became ill and his health began to deteriorate. The music played throughout all of the concerts adhered to be diverse. The instruments, the individuals performing, and the conductor all proved to be outstanding. The concerts proved to be interesting as I witnessed them, first hand.
Mozart died in 1791 and his widow, Constanze Mozart, sent the manuscripts of the canons to publishers Breitkopf & Härtel in 1799 saying that they would need to be adapted for publication. The publisher changed the title and lyrics of this canon to the more acceptable "Laßt froh uns sein" ("Let us be glad!"), similar to the traditional German Christmas carol, "Laßt uns froh und munter sein". Of Mozart's original text, only the first words were documented in the catalogue of his works produced by Breitkopf & Härtel.[3]

I decided to attend the Symphony on the Prairie on July24, 2015. I haven’t been to a Symphony Orchestra since I was very young and I was unable to attend the Symphony last Friday or Saturday. My fellow classmates invited me to the concert on July 24, 2015. I wanted to view a concert so I agreed to attend the Symphony with them. I also like Harry Potter and Star Wars; and they played pieces from both movies in the Symphony concert. Unfortunately there wasn’t any vocal throughout the concert but there were many instruments. These instruments include the entire string family (violin, viola, cello, and contrabass), the woodwind family (flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and contrabassoon), the brass family (English horn, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, and tuba), and the percussion family (timpani, harp, and keyboard)
After Mozart and his father returned to Italy from a ten year tour, Mozart was employed by Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Collero to be a court musician in the year 1773. With a pay check of only 150 florins a year though, Mozart began to look for other job ventures and began to try to write operas that he hoped would help kick start his career as a professional musician. It was not until 1782 when Mozart began to receive the credit that he deserved. Performing on multiple local keyboard competitions, he was soon established as one of the best keyboard players in Vienna. Finally in 1783, as he finished writing the opera Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, he began to be seen as a successful independent composer and started to receive a reputation as such (Abert 642). He is also considered the best melody writer the world has ever known. Wolfgang perfected the grand forms of symphony, opera string quartet, and concerto made the classical period. “Mozart’s music is characterized by lucid ease and distinction of style....”2 Wolfgang wrote over 600 works which consisted of 21 stage and opera works, 15 masses, over 50 symphonies, 25 piano concertos, 12 violin concertos,27 concert arias, 17 piano sonatas, 26 string quartets, and many more. His operas range from comic baubles to tragic pieces. In his Requiem it illustrates the supreme vocal sounds in any of his work.
The period form 1774 to mid 1777 was spent in Salzburg where he worked as a Konzertmeister at the Prince Archbishop’s court. He wrote many of his works during this time. Seeing limited opportunity in Salzburg, he left with his mother to Munich and Mannheim. No post was offered here either. His father then sent him to Paris with minor success only with his Paris Symphony no.31, deftly designed for the local taste. So, Wolfgang returned home alone. His mother had died in Paris. The years 1779-80 were spent in Salzburg playing in a cathedral and at court. He finally landed his big break when he wrote the Opera Idomeneo as a commission for Munich ( “Mozart” Grove ) Though there was conflict between him, his employer, and the Archbishop. So in May 1781 he resigned or was kicked out of his job. Wolfgang continued made a living as part time teacher, composer, and performer for various events. He married Constanze Weber in 1782. Also in 1782 and the following few years, Wolfgang wrote six string quartets all dedicated to the master of the form, Hayden. Hayden once told Mozart’s father that “Mozart was the greatest composer known to me in person or by name; he has taste and, what is more, the greatest knowledge of composition” ( “Mozart” Grove ). Everywhere a person goes in today's world, there are bound to be differences. Whether it's race, religion, gender or even the music we listen to, diversity is all around us. Being from the rural community that I'm from, people may say it's hard to find diversity. Little do they know, they are a part of an extraordinary, diverse world. For example, I listen to numerous genres of music. However, orchestra music is not one of them. I went out of my comfort zone to listen to the University of Findlay Orchestra concert on November 8, 2015. To say that my eyes were opened is an understatement.
One of the problems clarinetists of the 21st century face when performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, K. 622, is creating a performance that is memorable while keeping the authentic integrity of the work. Many clarinetists who perform this work are often concerned with how they should the approach and execute the concerto. Any musician who tackles any new work will approach it by researching historical information on the composer and work, do a musical analysis, and gathering recordings of other interpretations of the same work. This approach will not only allow the performer to be fully immersed in the piece but allow for the performer to create a memorable interpretation.
In Salzburg, Austria, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756. Wolfgang was the only son of Leopold and Maria Pertl Mozart to survive. Wolfgang began learning about music when he was three years old, watching his sister Nannerl play the keyboard. He was a musical prodigy, composing his first piece at 5, and beginning “tours” with his father at 6 years old. When Wolfgang turned 13, his father took him to Italy to show off this young boy’s talents. Before Mozart turned 21, he was appointed to be assistant concertmaster. It was at this time that he wrote his first opera. Mozart left on another tour in 1777, and then returned to Salzburg to be a court organist. He soon decided he was not so fond of this position, and resigned to become a freelance musician in Vienna. When he moved to Vienna, he married Constanze Weber, against his father’s wishes. Wolfgang lived in luxury during the beginning of his life in Vienna, he was producing popular operas. Soon, though, he began to lack money, and took loans that would leave him in debt for the rest of his life.
