MOTIVATING STUDENTS
Some students seem naturally enthusiastic about learning, but many need-or expect-their instructors to inspire, challenge, and stimulate them: "Effective learning in the classroom depends on the teacher's ability to maintain the interest in the first place". Whatever level of motivation the students bring to the classroom will be transformed, for better or worse, by what happens in that classroom. Unfortunately, there is no single magical formula for motivating students. Many factors affect a given student's motivation to work and to learn: interest in the subject matter, perception of its usefulness, general desire to achieve, self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as patience and persistence. Hold high but realistic expectations for your students. Research has shown that a teacher's expectations have a powerful effect on a student's performance. If you act as though you expect your students to be motivated, hardworking, and interested in the course, they are more likely to be so. Set realistic expectations for students when you make assignments, give explanations, conduct discussions, and conduct examinations. "Realistic" in this context means that your standards are high enough to motivate students to do their best work but not so high that students will inevitably be frustrated in trying to meet those expectations. To develop the drive to achieve, students need to believe that achievement is possible -which means that you need to provide early opportunities for success.
Help students set achievable goals for themselves. Failure to attain unrealistic goals can disappoint and frustrate students. Encourage students to focus on their continued improvement, not just on their grade on any one test or assignment. Help students evaluate their progress by encouraging them to critique their own work, analyze their strengths, and work on their weaknesses.
Tell students what they need to do to succeed in your course. Don't let your students struggle to figure out what is expected of them. Reassure students that they can do well in your course, and tell them exactly what they must do to succeed. Say something to the effect "If you can solve the

Respect: as a professional, respect should be demonstrated in your work, attitude, and communication with others. One way to gain the attention of your students is by creating an atmosphere of respect. This will then create a relation among you and the student that will keep the student engage and enthusiastic to learn. Generally building up an atmosphere of appreciation makes your students feel welcome and acknowledged in your classroom. Students who see themselves as regarded notwithstanding their learning contrasts are best ready to profit by distinctive chances to learn (Moore et al., 2011).

Teaching is not merely about methods used and material presented in the classroom, but about shaping students’ lives to help them construct a firm foundation for a successful future. I desire to teach my students basic life skills as well as challenge them to set and reach their highest goals.
Successful teaching occurs when the teacher is able to select the most efficient method for reaching out to each student’s individual style of learning and inspire students to rise to their highest potential. While the responsibilities of a teacher are extensive (as one can serve as a teacher, a friend, a counselor, a disciplinarian, an entertainer, a facilitator), I believe that students should play a big part in shaping own education as well.
The instructor-student treatment have huge impacts on the educational progress and honesty. The more encouragement I offer results in an increased trust and responsibility by students. Both increase their feel of worthy, both show that students can and will learn and achieve. I influence them until their inner feeling of “I want/need to master this subject” escalate. For instance, once a while I share a story of my own. Why I am learning and teaching and how I am still looking for more knowledge. There are couple of sayings that I use to encourage more learning and reading; the first one says, “Aim for higher expectations and if not met you won’t be far from your target”. The second says,” No one was born a scientist, everyone learns”.
Engaging students in the classroom can be a difficult task. Understanding the process of how students learn can help a teacher adapt the lesson to meet the needs of all students. I will encounter students that are not intrinsically motivated so I will need to find different ways to motivate each and every student. Understanding how my students learn can provide me with insights as to how to help each student learn which will minimize classroom management problems.
Being an elementary school teacher comes with a tremendous amount of responsibilities. As a teacher, it is important to know how help all children learn, and contribute to the classroom in an effective way. With students having their own unique way of learning, and contributing to the class us as teachers need help our students find out where they shine in the classroom. Motivation can be defined as the desire or inspiration to carry out specific tasks or to do something. Motivation is required when goals are being set and more so in their execution. In a work setting, motivation can be defined as a process through which individuals choose between alternative forms of behavior with the aim of achieving personal objectives. The goals sought by individuals can be extrinsic or relatively tangible such as monetary rewards and promotion, or intrinsic or intangible such as self esteem or job satisfaction (Armstrong, 2006). Take care of motivation, and learning will take care of itself. Learning comes from all forms of understanding. A person whether they are children or adults must take care of themselves in order to focus and maintain what is important. Self esteem in students is especially important when students are learning so when the self-esteem is high the motivation is high thus the learning will excel. One of the key responsibilities as teachers is to become a motivator. Motivation is how people move themselves to do an activity, job or anything that needs to be done. Motivation comes within the person and the interest and the spark of curiosity must be ignited, as teachers we gain motivation by rewards, and grades. Make a point to give students opportunities to express themselves in different ways. Each child is unique and self-expression is a great way to learn about each and every student. Learning does not rely on only the teacher; the students must do their part as well. The students are to give the teacher their undivided attention at all time and they should be bold to ask questions when they need to do so. I always explain to my students, here inside the classroom is where you will make your mistakes and also fix them, so then I am here to help at all times. The students are to be punctual and attend as much classes as possible; they are also held accountable to complete all given assignments. I provide the resources need to my students and they are ones to make proper usages of the resource given to gain the knowledge that they need.
