As part of my placement module I am required to reflect on my fundamental skills and communication skills that I have gained from placement. I will talk about my fundamental and communication skills using a reflective model of my choice. I will explore the fundamental an communication skills using Driscoll’s Model of Reflection(2007) His model of reflection was based around 3 questions. Beginning with the first one being ‘What?’ is the purpose of returning to this situation, what happened? These are questions that healthcare professionals need to ask themselves when something does not go according to plan. The second question that a healthcare professional must ask themselves is ‘So what’, meaning what were you feeling, are my feelings the
This essay will detail a critical reflection of two key learning experiences that I encountered during my team observed structured professional encounter (TOSPE). Originally designed by Harden and Gleeson (1979), TOSPE takes the form of a mock multi-disciplinary team meeting. As a result, it allows healthcare students to work collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team- developing non-technical skills and cultural competence.
Effective reflection helps the practitioner to see the situation from an outsider's perspective, so that they can develop a better way to respond to a similar scenario in the future. Reflection is meant to achieve a change in practice, rather than simply repeating the same mistakes (Schon, 1983). Many different models exist for structuring the reflective process. Regardless of the framework used, the reflection models are meant to accomplish three things. They are supposed to promote reflecting on events, self-evaluation and analysis, and a plan to change actions in the future. This Reflective essay will utilize Driscoll's 'The What?' model as its structure (Driscoll, 1994). This model has three components"
This semester in English 102 has been the most my writing has ever grown from one class. I have learned a lot different things about styles of writing and different types of essays. I liked how the class was based on a lot of “Why?” questions that really made you think. That made for a very interesting class each day.
This simulation was the most challenging for me thus far. During this simulation, what resonated with me most was the importance of prioritizing and patient education. In order to successfully complete this VSIM I had to ask the patient how she was breathing despite seeing the 02 level rise and I also decided to give her a breathing mask before giving her an incentive spirometer to encourage her to cough, which in hindsight was common sense. It was surprising to find out this patient smokes even though she has a history of respiratory issues. I imagine that in a real life situation she would receive some patient education about the dangers of smoking and maybe patches to help quit. Overall, I enjoyed this VSIM because I had to correct a lot
My most challenging concern is finding a place to implement my Capstone project. I thought about using my local library, but getting nurses to come maybe a problem. Right now I am on medical leave from my hospital, therefore I cannot get the hospital involve. My potential resources are my two friends that have experience in teaching. One friend is a nursing instructor and another friend once taught in a LPN nursing program. Most of my nursing jobs required me to talk to a large group of people during our interdisciplinary team meetings. I had to discuss patients’ cases with the interdisciplinary team. In my class, as a part of a teaching exercise, I want to talk about documented case studies regarding culture and have students talk about
This leadership experience is an accurate demonstration of my credentials and a large source of my purpose. I am organizing this overnight conference, seeking to improve the leadership capacity of students by encouraging them to discover their individuality and bond with other leaders. As MOCA, I update the schedule with minute-by-minute details; delegate roles to the security team, mentors, and executives; draft the itinerary and timeline; negotiate venue and transportation prices; and communicate with sponsors. This experience has taught me how to use budgets efficiently and improved my organization skills. I have also learned that with purposeful action and passion, I can leave a mark and create positive change in any vocation I pursue.
Time goes so fast and the quarter comes to an end soon. Writing 39A, as my first formal university writing courses, has helped me to acquire many skills needed to become better as a writer and a reader in college and for my future. During the ten weeks, the development of professionalism and effectiveness of my writing makes my writing become closer to the college writing standard and make me feel more confident about my writing. This portfolio is a collection of the whole written works I completed in Writing 39A, which support my definite comprehension of the course and show the improvement I made. It does not only show people how I have progressed as a writer but also demonstrates what I have learned about myself as a writer in this quarter.
The information presented during our orientation day was somewhat daunting but after having a few days to process everything and read over the information again I feel prepared for this clinical. I feel that all of the information provided was helpful to prepare us for the encounters and experiences that we might have on 5E.
As of this week, I have only attended the EPIC training and I will complete the class on 9/21/2017. I have not been able to meet with my preceptor yet and I hope that I could do my first clinical rotation before the month ends. That being said, I cannot comment on the preceptor’s expectations and concerns of working with me and her clinical thinking process and patient care as well as the drugs that are listed in the FNP formulary I could have potentially encountered during the shift. Since my preceptor is a physician assistant in an orthopedic unit, I think that I would be able to see things in her own perspective as a PA. I think it would be interesting to compare and contrast how the NPs and PAs work and to differentiate their scope of practice.
I have been a Resident Assistant (RA) for about five weeks. Training to be a RA was tiring but very educational. I learned how to handle multiple situations that could happen with me being RA. After training, it was a series of task that I had to complete as a RA. Those task included: completing forty-four Room Inventory Form, putting in fix it tickets, etc.
1. I will distinguish the dynamic leadership styles of my preceptor that are utilized to improve the quality of leadership and success in the organization. Through this activity, I will directly observe my preceptor in her daily activities functioning as the Vice President of Patient Care Services. This observation will include the interaction of my preceptor will all individuals within the organization through written or oral forms of communication.
1. Describe how you felt when you read through your results of the Mindset Assessment. Were you surprised? Did you agree? Why or why not? Provide examples to support your response.
