Military Women

Women played various roles in the Revolutionary War. While most people believe that the war was fought by the men of the country, not many know that women also played a large role in the fight for freedom. Some of these roles were easy while other were dangerous and were hard to do. From supportive jobs like nurses, cooks and maids to more direct roles such as soldiers and spies, these women did more than their share to help win America’s independence. These roles are just some of the many ways women participated in the Revolutionary War. Either as nurses, maids, spies or soldiers, these women stepped out of the safety and security of their traditional roles in society and risked their lives to serve their country.

Let us face the facts, it is this the 21st century, women should be required to sign up for the draft. Women are aloud to enlist in the military, and into any branch, so women should also have the civic duty to enlist. In the later generations of the world, women have never been thought of as equal citizens, but in the 21st century that has changed. The world should accommodate to the change also. To match up to how the country has transformed the government should also look into rewording the constitution, but for now a change in the draft would do. The extensive worry is who will raise our next generation, and will there even be a next generation if all the youngest our out fighting? Back to my first argument, draftees would be given a choice, and I think if women joined the military draft, we would have several other opportunities arise in the future

In a time of war, you need all hands-on deck and by not allowing women to be subject to draft you are cutting the numbers in half. Now I am not saying rip every mother from her child and put them on the front lines however there are plenty of jobs in the forces that women are capable of doing if the time came. Truck drivers, medics, technicians and many more positions are suitable for women that do not involve putting them all in the center of the battle. Women serving in the military is a topic that most people have very strong convictions on. Rather you are for or against women serving, you can find strong opinions that support both sides in this contentious dispute. Women have struggled to fit into the military life for years. Even though woman have fought alongside men in each key battle from the start of the American Revolution, they still find it hard to shake the stereo types about woman who serve. Woman have always had to cloak themselves in a masquerade of sorts to serve alongside men. When woman were finally accepted into the military, they were given secondary roles to the men. The Pentagon has just recently began to realize that gender really do not matter on the battlefield. Since the Pentagons enlightenment, one can now see progress in the integration of women in all expanding military careers. Women have always proven that they are not only an asset to the military but they are the strength of the America’s military.

Another thing that should prevent women to be in the draft is emotion. Women are complex beings with many chemical emotions causing them to react differently than men. Women’s brains perceive things in a more maternal way there for they consider circumstances differently. If a situation was complicated and needed an immediate reaction a woman might not be the right person to make an instant and thought out decision. She might reflect on it in a way that didn’t conjure what the troop needed at the moment. Women that are forced to be in war can easily get overwhelmed. Men can come through due to instinct after hundreds of years of being the ones who take care of the physical and difficult tasks at hand but women might not be as likely to react logically and can be easily inundated by the stress. Having maternal instinct rather than survival technique can be a vast disadvantage in combat causing emotion to be a handicap.

One reason why I believe women should be drafted is because equality. One in five new military recruits are women, men are still singled out and are required to register with the Selective Service for a possible future draft. Women and men have served on combat

Stated in Article 12 of the National Assembly’s own Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, “The security of the rights of man and of the citizen requires public military forces. These forces are, therefore, established for the good of all and not for the personal advantage of those to whom they shall be intrusted.”1 This is what the draft stated before the amendment stating women and men are equal! The forces are here for the protection of all citizens. No place in this article, or in any of the other articles, is there a statement saying women are not allowed in the National Guard. Article 12 only says that the public deserves to have a military force for their protection. There is no description on who is eligible to be in this public military, for the fact that there is no reason to have a description. Any, and all, persons that wish to join the National Guard may do so for their own just reasons. The debate between the draft and women has been going on for a few years now. Women scream for equality, but In order to get the equality they scream for they not only have to work next to the opposite sex they have to fight hard and do everything twice as hard as their male counterparts. This must be done for the equality women crave. The only thing that contradicts women signing up for the draft is not the fact that they do not wish to do this it is the simple fact that the law states that only “Male Persons” should be required to sign for the selective service system not the females some

Women have fought alongside men in the United States Military in every major battle since the American Revolution. The roles of women in the military have evolved over time to allow the incorporation of women in expanding military career fields. Women have proven themselves to be an asset to the military despite some of society believing women would weaken America’s military effectiveness. Today more than 200,000 women are active-duty military, this is about 14.5% of all military. Currently, women are involved in all branches of the Armed Forces; there are around 74,000 women in the Army, 62,000 in the Air Force, 53,000 in the Navy, and 14,000 in the Marine Corps (By the numbers: Women in the U.S. Military).      Women have played a tremendous role in many countries' armed forces from the past to the present. Women have thoroughly integrated into the armed forces; all positions in the armed forces should be fully accessible to women who can compete with men intellectually and physically.

These women were disguised as men and fought alongside with them. Although some of these women went to go fight in the wars and their true identities were never found out. These women proved to history that women have the physical and mental fortitude to be a soldier. Women do have the physical standards of going to war just like men.

     Women should never be let into the military because America is not ready to see their mothers and daughters go to war. During wartime, when the men get drafted to go to war, the women are the backbone of the economy and the major suppliers of the labor in factories. Young children, with their mothers and fathers drafted, would have no place to go. A husband who’s wife gets drafted would eagerly take her place. Sixty year old fathers would also do the same for their daughters. Women nurture our society and do a great job at it. Half of the motivation of the soldiers on the front lines is the women that they left behind.

Ninety percent of all military occupations in the military include all genders, but the top ten percent of roles are excluded to women. Women have already felt the misogyny with unequal pay and unfair treatment by men, now women have to face the discrimination for fighting for our country. Women should be able to serve in the front lines because it makes the military stronger as a whole with more diversity, women in other countries fight on the front lines and women have made significant contributions in the military so far.

I am in favor of equality for women, just not when it comes to women in combat. There have been women in society doing heroic things since the Revolutionary war. There have been brave women in war posing as men so they could fight. There are a select few women who could handle war and combat. The negative aspects of women in combat outweigh the positive. Women should not participate in military combat. However they may join the military and served in traditional roles such as nurses and office staff. The difference between men and women is women are physically weaker, they have vital personal needs, and they attract male troops.
