Women have always been an immense asset to the military. According to Martha McSally a professor of National Security Studies and a retiree of the United States Air Force as colonel , “In the Revolutionary War and Civil War, women served not only as cooks, laundresses, and nurses but also as spies and saboteurs. Some, like Deborah Sampson of Massachusetts, also disguised themselves as men and fought in battles” (McSally 153). So, according to Martha women have been secretly integrated in combat since 1783. With the help of women, the United States was able to gain independence and win the war. Over the next years’ women began fighting for the right to be legally included into combat roles in war. In 1917 when the Selective Service System was first founded women were housewives and their only responsibility was to make sure everything was running smoothly in the home. Women were not to get involved with anything other than their housework. Today there are more women holding positions in the workplace than men. The women of today are out making money and working harder for their money, then men. Since 2016 women have been granted permission to fight in hand to hand roles unlike in 1917 when women could only be nurses and other non- threatening roles. The belief that physical ability, sexual harassment and being viewed as weak is an authentic reason for not including women in the draft is irrational. These argumentations are either outdated, unreasonable, or issues of the governments and not women. If women are required to register for the draft there will be more manpower. If the United States is ever desperate enough to call another draft than it is indisputable that they need all the support that they can get. Only allowing men to go into war involuntarily does not give the military the backup that they will need. Additionally, if the United States wants to treat all their people equally they will have to accept women into the draft. The people of the United States will not see women as complete equals until the government begins to hold women to the same standards as men. This will begin with the
