Morals are definitely a standard that is set by society as an indicator for right and wrong. The tactic of applying morals works well, especially when being used in the military, law enforcement and the judicial system. These standards put self-guidance on the individual to ensure that they maintain a behavior, which allows them to follow and adhere to any code of ethics within their particular department. Getting new as well as potential, employees to buy into the department’s morals starts with early introduction of the expected standards. Especially, during training, implementing morals and values as a core expectation will extend throughout that potential cadet’s career. The military uses this tactic during basic training, they preach integrity
Those thought to be ethical or moral are described in terms of their values in regards to honesty, integrity and good character. Our ethical conduct originates from our values which are greatly influenced by our morals; they provide guidance and are our standard for the ways in which we carry out and view right and wrong decisions. For these reasons, personal ethics are said to be our foundation and, as such, often influence how we administer ethical codes of conduct in our personal lives, and the ways in which we carry out our organizational duties. The normative foundations of public service ethics are those standards used to justify and defend one’s conduct, i.e. reasoning about obligations, consequences and ultimate ends in specific situations. In addition to personal codes of conduct, leadership in the public sector requires the ability to apply ethical reasoning based on formal controls and technical standards.
There is a lurking ethical issue that is facing contemporary society and that has already started to affect the military, but has the potential to grow even more monstrous. Online privacy or internet privacy is the root of this issue and “following the revelations of widespread data collection by the United States government, among others, the public has to decide whether to push for legislation that would safeguard their online privacy, and which criteria, if any, should first be met by government agencies before invading civilians' privacy”.
I do agree with you and soldiers must set aside their personal beliefs and values if they want to survive. If someone is joining the military they must know that they may have to kill or be exposed to very violent situations. Knowing this will assist you in the situation that I discussed and with the training that you completed you will make a decision whether it is to kill or not to kill. Either way you have went against some form of your virtues. While in the military you are taught certain virtues such as honor and integrity. If you’re personal virtues are against killing you will know that you must kill as it will protect your honor and could save lives. Either way you must either go against your personal virtues or your military virtues.
The ethical perspectives of the United States Marine Corps resemble that viewpoint of Karl Marx. Although our primary mission is defending the United States, our other missions include humanitarian aid as well. This follows Adam Smiths beliefs on the role of the Government toward defense and enhancing the well-being of the society. As members of any Armed Forces we all belong to the government and there are restrictions placed on us about what we can and cannot do in the privacy or our own home, the markings we can put on our body, the way we should look on and off duty, and a wide range of other do’s and don’ts. They basically control your life. Through our community nature, our choices and actions are connected with others around us, not
Our military has been around for over 241 years, establishing its strength and developing itself to be one of the strongest, most potent, and patriotic military's of the world. Our military, consisting of the five branches (Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Coast Guard) as of October 1st, 2016 opened all military occupational specialties (MOS) to females. This may be one of the largest leaps in history that our country has made. However, with women's roles in the combat being changed they are required to pass all training with the same standards males have. This questions the service and brings to a debate on why the double standards in place today still remain. With the exception of females in combat meeting male requirements to qualify, I come to question the effects that these double standards have on the U.S. military, both past and present, in regards to the military's strength as a unit and the effects that they have on bringing together the members as one team despite these differences inflicted by gender. Both men and women of the service have the possibility to stand alongside one another while representing the same face-value and quality as
WHAT IS RESPECT WITHIN THE MILITARY. Respect to me mean treat people the way they should be treated. Treat others with dignity and respect while expecting others to do same. Respect is trusting that all people have done their jobs and fulfill their duty. Respect is one of the key values in the United States Army.
As the time changed, the world reached greater importance to the women’s rights. However, in the military, females are still treated different from males in many fields. On physical standards, females’ standards are a lot of lower than males’ standard. From a national and personal point of view, is it really a good thing to be double standards for military female and male? I think women need to meet the same standards as men on military physical standards.
Good order and discipline are rudimentary to any military unit or entity as well as essential to mission accomplishment. The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) is an integral part of maintaining good order and discipline. Sexual incidences detract from good order and discipline, and, similarly, are not unique to the civilian sector. Equally, they are real and documented in the military. Correspondingly as inimitable is the detrimental results of sexual incidences in the military.
I really do agree with you, Tyler. One of the biggest issues I had be in the Army is when a leader would tell you that there is this one stander, but they themselves do not do this one stander. Often when a soldier is get in trouble one of the leaders would punishes the group of the solider that was with the individual, and not the leader that trained them. If someone is going to lead me in to a situation, I need to have confidents in their ability to lead. I need to feel comfortable that I can trust them otherwise they become a distraction. Too many time in the Army I got in trouble for me being to blunt when a leader was acting unethical. I but in order to be viewed as a professional you have to act like it all the
We will be discussing what best motivates ethical and productive behavior within the United States Army. We will discuss how ethical and productive behavior is communicated from the top to the lower enlisted Soldiers. We will also discuss reward and discipline and how affects ethical behavior with the Troops. Last, we will distinguish if different people may require different motivation factors to encourage ethical and productive behavior and how it is possible to distinguish who this is applied it.
During a Pentagon news brief on February 7, 2014, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel stated, “Ethics and character are absolute values that we cannot take for granted. They must be constantly reinforced. It is the responsibility of all of us — all of us who ask for the trust and confidence of the American people — to ensure these values are imbued in all our people and we all live up to them.” Confronted with inappropriate emails detailing sexual activities; military personnel from recruiters to generals and admirals and department of defense employees taking advantage of their positions of trust; to massive adultery scandals with Air Force and Navy nuclear officers; right down to the top Army prosecutor for sexual assault cases being suspend
As an organizational- level leadership, he will confront many thorny problems and missions that challenge their moral criteria and military profession. In particular, when they receive the order from the upper- level, how he employ his expertise to exercise his moral leadership and undertake the tasks. Actually, both of the profession and ethic are interdependent, and inseparable. Thus, a professional commissioned officer should understand how to fit ethic into his expertise. Moreover, people would face the dilemmatic situation between the obedience of rules and the consideration of the consequence. When it comes to the moral or ethical, should I follow the deontology or consequentialism? Which one is the most critical priority to the stewardship
Military Discipline is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. Self discipline in the military is where soldiers do the 4 rights without being told, even in the absence of the commander. Discipline is created within a unit by instilling a sense of confidence and responsibility in each individual. To strengthen discipline, senior leaders need to give praise to their subordinates, either individually or as a whole, for tasks done well. By doing this, it will accomplish every commanders goal of having a unit that functions well and builds a bond which binds together the team. Everything in life requires some sort of discipline. Whether it is hitting a baseball, learning to sew , playing a musical instrument, making good
Business morals is seen by examiners as "an arrangement of ethic standards" and it gives an arrangement of tools of practising decisions, moral attitudes and behaviors, components which facilitate a person in his nature of direct participation in the organization's exercises, to take the most moral choices. The organizational culture impacts the conduct of each worker, heading them either to a moral methodology of their work (a perfect circumstance for mindful organizations) or to softening the moral standards (case where the organization might suffer in its long run, its reputation being harmed). Incorporating the data specified above, we help the authorities' assessment that "there is a sure likeness between an organization's organizational culture and an individual's identity, which accumulates an arrangement of obvious and less noticeable viewpoints, yet which gives the vision, direction, and energy for the development of the organization".
A key consideration in the nature of ethics in the business environment is the core values that exist in an organization. These are values articulated and reinforced by top management, imparted to new members of the organization and spread throughout the organization. Organizational values have a substantial influence on employee performance. Organizational values are communicated via socialization and code of ethics. If people do not agree on or do not know the norms and values of their organization then a weak corporate culture exists (Finegan, 1994). Chief executives must communicate, encourage and show pride in the organization ethical standards to inspire and show employees that the organization appreciates a person for acting in accordance with the standards. Business ethics applies to all aspects of business conduct and
