The power and size they managed to obtain has been a constant subject of interest for historians and all those who are interested in history. Julius Caesar’s ascension to power marked the time from where the Romans steadily expanded their territory and by the time the Roman Republic dissolved and the Roman Empire emerged, the Empire had become so big that the Romans had then to face the problem of maintaining their empire. As administration was a strong point in the Roman Empire it ultimately became too enormous to effectively govern, the financial allocation was lopsided, this led to the creation of the Western and Eastern Empires and the eventual crumble and abandonment of the west.

I think that the title “The Roman Army: The soldiers who created an empire“ fits this book well for many reasons. There are many pieces of evidence in the text for my claim.

No powerful civilization has ever excised without a well-organized military. The Republic of Rome and Imperial Rome would have no been so influential to civilizations across the globe without a powerful military. Imperial Rome conquered vast lands from Britain to North Africa, from Egypt to Judea with their military which consisted of well discipline soldiers from their generals to the simple foot soldiers. This military was not an armed mob with clubs and spear; they were a high skilled set of professional soldiers. Over the vast Roman Empire the military executed the will of the emperor. The Roman Military is admired by many people. It still amazes a lot people today how far advanced the Romans were in technology over 2,000 years ago. Some of their roads are still used today; their large baths are still admired with a lot of them still remaining. The Roman army was the most feared army at that time. Since the Romans wrote many different things down, there is lots of different sources available to find out how the Roman Military worked. My goal is to show you how strong the Roman Military was.

The Spartan army was arguably the most notorious military force in Ancient times, this is because of their great success in warfare and their renowned skill in fighting and this reputation has resulted in them being notoriously respected in Ancient times. This has been highlighted in modern-day media with the film: “300” when the movie was released in 2006. The Spartan’s in theory were the world’s first super soldiers, entirely devoted to combat training with a full-time job as a warrior, they were truly a force to be reckoned with. Due to Sparta’s fierce reputation even modern armies including the US still use some of Sparta’s military values. In my project, I will be evaluating as to whether Spartan training was the most significant factor

The most influential tool of an empire in its quest to consolidate and expand power is Government leadership. To be powerful and stable, the civilization must run smoothly as well as expand. In order to do this, the empire must have a wealth of resources, such as land, water, and surplus food. The empire would also need a consistently stable economy, a strong military, and united people.There are many contributing factors to these situations, however, the government definitely plays a large role. In some cases, the people or the military may have a say in these matters, but when it comes to many situations involving trade, money, and the military, the government often makes the important decisions, especially in the case of an ancient empire.

The army was a big part of the development of Roman society. The citizen’s lives during the Republican period were all focused around the military. Wars for expansion continued from the Republican period to the Imperial period. The military was mainly concerned with defending their boarders from other Empires. The Roman armies were entirely composed of property owners and accompanied by allies. Men were usually called into service for a certain campaign. Since wars would occur often, men would be called into service year after year. Many of these men did not survive the frequent wars.

I am the very model of a modern Major-General in the Roman army . I help march Roman prisoners to Jerusalem. Today there was a prisoner that we were not supposed to give water to named Ben Hur, but a man still approached him and gave him water. As I went to strike him, he looked at me and I felt as if I should leave him alone I don't know what it was but as I looked at him I felt calm. I feel now after seeing him that I should be nicer to our prisoners but that would go against our emperor.
