After the Vietnam War ended, the Marine Corps’ main focus changed from broad scale operations, to being an Expeditionary Force in Readiness. Although this was no new role for the United States Marine Corps (USMC), there have been many changes in society, technology and tactics that affect how the Corps operates. However, over the last 36 years one thing has remained the same, and that is the role of the Marine Non Commissioned Officer (NCO). With the world changing ever so rapidly, the strong values and responsibilities of the Marine NCO are now, more than ever, necessary to carry out the operations being assigned to United States Marines. The role of the NCO is characterized by their
Griffith's military career, she was hand picked to serve on long term orders in support of the Defense lntelligence Agency (DlA). During the year and half tour of duty, she quickly learned the mission, and mentored peers and subordinate analysts. She expertly gathered, reviewed, analyzed and disseminated hundreds of intelligence products for joint warfighters and national policy decision makers to make informed decisions facing military operations. As a Leading Petty Officer, she had successfully led her team that was critical to the unit's success and greatly exceeded DIA's expectations Ms. Griffith's subject matter expertise allowed her to mentor sailors up and down the chain of command, but more importantly she has the essential qualities to lead. Sailors routinely sought her advice and counsel in regard to both professional and personal aspects of their lives.
I, Marshall Tollie Weldon, am originally from Franklinton, North Carolina. Prior to graduating from Franklinton High School during 2012, I swore into the United States Navy in 2011. My goal was to become a corpsman for the four years of my contract, but due to the overdemand for that occupation I was reassigned the job of an Aviation Electrician’s Mate. During my first year in the military, I underwent training at Naval Air Station Pensacola from 2012 to 2013, and was given orders to Naval Station Norfolk for the remainder of my enlistment. While at the command VAW-120, I quickly acquired all the qualifications for my job and became a shift supervisor from August 2013 to June 2016. After three years of working at this command, I received the
From captaining the American Navy’s most prized frigates to being a man every sailor could actively interact with, John Barry established himself to be an exceptional naval leader and hero. He guided his ships and sailors through many successful battles which were key in the establishment of the American Navy. Despite his great influence, Barry never put his personal interests in front of the Navy’s, and his dedication to the service centuries ago created the dominant Navy and Marine Corps team present today. Because he was an expert and popular mariner, a focused individual, and a naval visionary, John Barry was able to earn the title of “Father of the American Navy.”

My first visit to the Naval Academy was on family trip while in grammar school. On this and subsequent visits, the young men and women who chose to devote their lives to country and service greatly impressed me. As a high school student, I had the good fortune to experience Academy life via my acceptance to the competitive Summer STEM program, my invitation to Candidate Visit Weekend, and my participation in the Elite Throws Sports Camp. Through these first-hand experiences, I grew in awareness and commitment to an Academy education as an opportunity to enable me to serve my country. Moreover, I am honored to be a member of a gold star family, via my uncle Senior Master Sergeant Peter Bondi, recently deceased on active duty, and to have had a grandfather who served in the National Guard. Eulogies delivered for my Uncle Peter reflected a life of service and were a source of inspiration that fueled my resolve to serve.
My name is Lin Marie Michelle Flores, I did not have to deal with gangs but I had to deal with the color of my skin. My parents are both from Mexico. They both came to the states as teenagers and met here in Los Angeles. I am the youngest out of four and the only girl. I was born and raised in Los Angeles with my parents and siblings. To some I had a privileged education, to me it was an education provided by working class parents. Both my parents worked hard to give me a good education. My father was the first minority to graduate from Saint Bernard High School, an immigrant who struggled to do his best to educate himself. My mother came to the United States as a young teenager. She did not finish High School in the pursuit of the “American Dream.” My dad became a LAPD officer and my mother had her own housekeeping business. Both my parents worked hard to give their children the opportunities they did not have, thus providing a private education for their children.
Imagine someone being out to sea for eight months, and them having their only towel or shower shoes stolen from them. As Senior Enlisted Leaders, we should understand that a deceitful man is no different than a thief and both contradict the Navy’s Core Values. Integrity and honesty are essential characteristics of every sailor because the Navy is built on trust and comradery. This essay will examine the Navy’s ultimate deceit; discuss how this one man’s actions contradicted the Navy’s Core Values, and the importance of honesty and integrity within the Navy.
7. One may argue that new enlistees in the Coast Guard have a purpose and know what they want to do, but the facts that are presented are the Coast Guard is 3500 people short at the non-rate level. We are accepting everyone who walks through our recruiting doors, and still can fill our personnel gap. The US economy is struggling so new recruits’ do not have the exposure required to make an educated decision on a career path. The Coast Guard will make more efficient Petty Officers as long as future goals of its service align with the future goals of the
Leadership is a skill that one is not born with, but is acquired through life experiences and interactions. Michelle Obama perseverance to attain a higher education, a concept foreign in her family, shows the dedication and determination a leader must have. As a leader, it is imperative that once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace setter, innovative and charismatic leader because through the various projects she undertook as her role of First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to be active in one’s own community. For example, this can be seen in her role as Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle influences people through her own success. Having attended Harvard Law, becoming a top attorney and later the first African American First Lady, she has influenced youths across the nation to believe that anything is possible, so long as they have faith. In accordance to the Leadership Theories, Michelle Obama can be categorized under the Authentic Leadership Approach; for these leaders, their leadership is genuine, develops over time, transparent and driven by moral values (Komives, Lucas&, McMahon). Projects such as Let’s
