Sotomayor graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx in 1972. She then entered Princeton University were she became involved with Puerto Rican Groups on campus. Condoleezza Rice was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1954 and was the child of a teacher and Presbyterian minister. Most of Rice’s younger years were spent enclosed around racism. She graduated from the University of Denver and Notre Dame. Rice then became a professor of political science. At Stanford, Rice became the first African-American and first woman to serve as provost of the university.

One of her most important achievements was introducing school medical services and school meals. She did this because she believed that children could not learn of they were hungry or sick.

She said “ I don't measure America by its achievement but by its potential.” She said this because it shows that it doesn’t matter what they did but what comes out of it. While in school Michelle did very well, she was able to skip second grade and graduated top of her class. She attended Princeton University and then Harvard Law School. Over the course of the history of the U.S, many first ladies have helped our country in some way. One of the most active first ladies in history was Eleanor Roosevelt. Even before she was in the White House, she was helping our country in various ways. When she was a teenager she worked with the Red Cross, and was a volunteer in Navy hospitals (First Ladies: an Impact Cornell College). She was best known for her help during the crisis of World War II. She tried to help European refugees on their way to the United States. Michelle Obama is known to be a very successful woman. Before she became the First Lady of the United States, she was a lawyer and it took her hard work and dedication to get there. Michelle was enrolled at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. Their program is an accelerated program for gifted students. Michelle became a member of the National Honor Society before graduating as class salutatorian in 1981. For college, Michelle attended Princeton University, graduating cum laude in 1985 with a B.A. in Sociology. Then she continued her college education at Harvard Law School, where she was part of rallies for the enrollment and hire more minority students and professors. She was awarded her J.D. in 1988. She has done everything in her power to help those people lead a life of justice and equality that they otherwise, had been prevented from doing. Michelle Obama has achieved things most others with her upbringing could only dream of. She used her achievements to give those people a better chance. Michelle Obama has become an extremely important figure in America because of her inspiring advocacy for women, girls, and people of color, and she was doing this far before she became the first lady of the United States.
