A true high school has no happy ending. There is no “happily ever after”, there is no good kid who stays out of trouble and ends up becoming the most popular kid in school. There is no ugly kid who ends up dating the most popular girl in school. All of that is a fantasy thought up to keep middle schoolers from being scared of growing up. Because no matter where you live, highschool is a dark place. A real highschool story needs lies. It needs run ins with the law. It needs sadness. Too many times only the good things are shown in highschool stories, and if negative things do happen, they are never as bad or as scary as they are in real life. An example of a true highschool story is that of mitchell rodriguez. Mitchel was born into a religious …show more content…
All you will do is end up wasting your life away.” this troubled mitchell. His whole view of the world is changed, and this would lead him on a darker path, as it would any confused teenager.
Mitchells personality did a complete 180. The once quiet, nicely dressed boy had taken up the style of his surroundings, and now instead of wearing collared shirts and cargo pants, wore baggy jeans and gold chains.
His friends changed as well. The few friends Mitchel had outside of his family where extreme catholics as well, and stopped talking to him when he changed the way he did. So he branched out, and begun hanging out with the kids in his neighborhood he had casually known for years. During his sophomore year, Mitchell began hanging out with these new friends everyday. Everyday their oldest friend Ricardo would drive him and his friend Alejandro from school to a dealer's house, and they would stay at the dealer's house and smoke marijuana till they had to go home late at night. However even though Mitchell did this every day, his grades never fell. He still helped his family around the house and spent time with them, and Mitchell realized his dad had been right. Why should he live his life by standards set by other people? Why not make his own morals? And that's what he
A reason why he changed himself to be part of the popular group is he changed what he wore. In the story the author stated “It’s a sad fact of life that the clothes a child wears and how he wears them often determine his rank in school society.” In the story mitch became unpopular because he wore yellow pants and shorts. Second, He only wants to be friends with the popular kids. In the story the author said “I must step forward now, or retreat forever to a life of bitter companions and three leaf clovers. This is how popularity can change
Those are some of Mitch’s character traits. You also know about Mitch’s personal life now too. Mitch showed how to never give up. He didn't give up until he figured out why Angel wasn't well known. He also showed how to be friendly like when Kimi helped him. That is only some facts about Mitch if you read the book you can find out about all of
In my junior of high school I volunteered, through the educational program Scholars, at a middle school called Tomas Rivera Middle School. As I already had experience tutoring students because of my position as a certified avid tutor in my middle school, I quickly became involved. I worked with students falling in mathematics and English learners. I was in charge of 2 distinct groups. The first, were 7th grade students in advanced algebra 1 and my second group was composed of 8th grade students in regular algebra 1. I worked with these dedicated students for a semester, almost every wednesday before I would go to school, for about an hour and 30 minutes.
Mitch is extremely loyal, he upholds his desires of play, drink, and socializing to look after her dying elderly mother. Mitch is introduced coming back from bowling, arguing with his friends, who propose to play poker at his house; the proposal outrages him, vociferating, “No--not at my place. My mother's still
As a general rule, high school can be a very dark place. There is a rough-edged pain that many associate with high schools. Students are at an age where the feelings of others seldom matter, and their own pain is best expressed by putting it on someone else. Because of this, when there is a student who shows kindness and puts other people before themselves, they tend to shine that much brighter.
High school, four of the most interesting years of life. It is a time to find yourself and figure out who you are and what you want your place in this world to be. During this process comes friendships that build because of alike interests and beliefs. From freshman year at the bottom of the totem pole, all the way to senior year, being the top dog of your school. It is such a great feeling knowing that those three years of hard work build up to essentially a grand finale. Many big changes happen as you grow older in high school. From summer camps, to starts of a new year. From homecoming week, to the end of sport seasons. From in school privileges to coming to and leaving from school early, and finally Graduation. This grand finale year has some similarities and some differences and as you read on you will see what I mean.
Entering high school is the beginning of a whole new learning experience. Transitioning from middle school, high school presents more classes, students, and a bigger campus. It brings new expectations and responsibilities to each of us. High school also offers fresh chances to make new friends, try new sports and activities, and really explore who we are as individuals. The goal is to maintain good grades, score high on the SAT test, and keep a positive attitude so colleges and universities will accept you. Of course it's not as easy at sounds, but it's achievable. It requires a lot of work and dedication to every subject. Some students breeze their way through while others live in misery trying to pass their
Only 89 percent of students actually enjoy school. I was told in eighth grade that freshman Friday's were every Friday and students would get shoved into lockers. Another thing I was told was teachers are really mean and they don't know how to have fun. That is not true. The final thing I was told was there is a lot of homework, there is no homework if you use your time wisely. High school is and enjoyable and happy place if incoming ninth graders can remember details.
The tv show Awkward has definitely shown me the side of high school that doesn’t exist. These things include parents being okay with boyfriends staying the night, and parties on Sundays. Awkward also shows parents fighting then apologizing to their kids, when in reality parents will make you feel like crap then never apologize. Actual high school is usually filled with studying until 1am, losing your best friend (and not getting her back), living off of redbull and constantly fighting with your parents.
high school is four years of figuring out what you want your purpose in life is while juggling extracurricular activities, your social life, and all the drama that high schoolers like to start. No one ever said that high school would be easy nor did anyone say that it would be easy finding your calling in life. but I guess that's what high school is, a big game of trial and error that everyone goes through in the grand scheme that we call
Hearing the words “high school” does not seem as a life impacting word. When hearing that word, majority of people take it as a series of grade levels or a step closer to college. But little do they realize, who they were in middle school is not the same person they are in high school. Mainly because with middle school and high school comes many differences and similarities. For example, honor students may have the sample amount of homework, where appearance and friends change throughout the years.
Everyone has heard or been told, “high school is what you make of it.” High school is in fact what you make of it, but it is also the time of great change in everybody. Entering grade nine you still feel like a kid, your post-secondary and career choices are far from top priority. However, by grade twelve we become more mature and grow into young adults. Personally looking back to my grade nine self and comparing her to my grade twelve self of today, I am able to see changes in my character, my athletics and my goals.
It was a very mild October day, on which the birds sang all the time and you never needed a jacket. I had just gotten out of school from which a bus drops me off at Santa Fe Middle School. Because it was such a pleasant day I had ridden my bike, a small Mongoose dirt bike which could go incredibly fast for it's size. So I went to the bike lock up and took it from the iron bars and began to ride it away on my usual path from the school. I crossed the sidewalk by the park as I always did and proceeded to get to the end of the block, I turned onto a street that lead down to the bike path. It was a very steep road that was about 100 feet long. As I went down I noticed the immense velocity I had picked up Which was average because the road was so
People say that high school is the best four years of your life; but for me high school was the most four depressing years of my life. All thanks to my middle school best friend named Tre. I never expected that I would date my best friend or even fall in love with him, and most of all get my heartbroken in the process.
High school is like climbing a mountain, you have to start from the bottom and go up slowly until you get to the top. We worked for four years to reach the top so we can consider ourselves successful.
