Michael Jordan once said, “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.” From being cut by his varsity high school coach, to becoming a six time NBA champion and worldwide icon, Michael Jordan knows a thing or two about failure and hard work. In my pre-teen years failure was not a big deal to me but when the Under Armour top 100 basketball camp came around, failing would teach me lessons that I have used ever since.

For me at the time, basketball was not just a sport, it was life or death. I knew that I had to show off my talent at the camp to prove myself. When it was time to compete, walking into the sports complex was one of the best feelings I can remember. The final day of camp. After countless games on the last day the moment everybody had been waiting for had finally arrived. Although the competition was tough I knew I could still have a chance to be in the top 25. The staff of the camp gave a talk, said thank you for attending and posted the scouting sheet up on the wall. A flood of kids ran up to see where they placed among the players at the camp. I waited until the huge crowd dismissed. Starting from the top of the list I looked for my name. Down, down and down my eyes kept moving. 87th: Kyle J Duffy was listed on the board.
