It is widely known that drugs are bad. All drugs, whether it be something as simple as marijuana, or as deadly as methamphetamine, they are all equally dangerous. Each drug has the same dangerous effect on you as the the others. They destroy your brain. An example would be cocaine, what cocaine does is it ends up binding to the dopamine transporters, and so it prevents the removal of the dopamine from our synapses. Then as a result dopamine begins to build up in the synapse, which causes continuing stimulation of the receiving neurons, and is possibly responsible for euphoria described by cocaine
Marijuana is a mixture of the dried parts of the cannabis sativa hemp plant. Excessive marijuana use can lead to an addiction. The main chemical in marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which moves quickly through the bloodstream and to the brain, causing mild hallucinogenic effects. THC binds with cannabdnob receptors and activates neurons, which causes adverse effects on the mind and body. THC can mimic or block actions of neurotransmitters and interfere with normal functions. Marijuana use can lead to disturbed thoughts and can worsen psychotic symptoms. The short-term effects of marijuana include impaired coordination; skewed sensory and time perception; difficulty with thinking; shortened attention span and distractibility; impaired learning and memory. Long term users of marijuana often experience lowered motivation and some can experience anxiety, panic attacks, respiratory illness, and increased heart rate and risk of heart attack.
Methamphetamine stimulates different parts of the brain, as shown in figure 2 of a PET scan. In Figure 2 it reveals that a methamphetamine addict has various parts of their brain more stimulated than the control, and other section of their brain were not stimulated. Imaging studies have shown changes in the activity of the dopamine system that are associated with reduced motor skills and impaired verbal learning (NIH,2). Methamphetamine affects the parts of the brain that control judgment, reward and memory. In addition, methamphetamine has an effect on the reward system of the brain, which makes the user feel pleasure, which is normally felt through things such as eating, sex, and drinking. Furthermore, Methamphetamine affects the limbic

Methamphetamine consists of two isomers, dextrorotary and levorotary. Numerous studies have shown that of these two, the dextrorotary, or d-methamphetamine, is far more potent. D-methamphetamine can be described as being more potent due to the fact that it is psychoactive and affects the central nervous system, whereas l-methamphetamine will merely increase blood pressure and is actually also used to help with nasal congestion.11
While it might not seem to cause any damage while getting high, in the long run there are several things that can go wrong. Drugs can cause people to become more violent towards others, the person on the drugs can harm themselves physically, there's the possibility of internal damage, people on drugs are more prone to contracting a disease, or you can become addicted. There are also some mental effects that can be caused by drugs like being more stressed, some drugs can cause depression after using them, and lastly drugs can cause mental illnesses like
Sometimes people forget that methamphetamine hurts not only individuals, but families, neighborhoods and entire communities as well. You might not be using methamphetamine or know anyone who is - but that doesn't mean it's not having an effect on you. A methamphetamine lab can operate unnoticed in a neighborhood for years, causing serious health hazards to everyone around. The problems with meth are widespread. Children and the general public may be affected by the fumes from meth labs operating in or near their homes. The prison system is overwhelmed by the needs of incarcerated meth users. Hospital emergency departments (ED) report that meth is a significant drug problem. The cost of meth labs to society is large. A study done by the University of Arkansas found the cost to prevent abuse in one county to be around $20 million. Although many measures have been placed, abuse has been steadily increasing. In 2003, there was a 68% increase in workers who tested positive. Surprisingly, over 70% of users are actively employed. In particular, the lab problem is growing significantly in the Midwest and Mid Atlantic areas since they migrated from California in the early 80s.
“I want to be addicted to meth!” Have you ever heard anyone say this? While millions of people use methamphetamines, it would be difficult to find a person that had the desire to become addicted to it. Despite a radical increase in the number of people using this drug and the terrible consequences of doing so, it has recently propelled in popularity. Meth addiction is so common because the use of the drug is prevalent in many areas and because there is little knowledge about the risks involved. Few people comprehend the long-term effects of meth on the brain and the body. Methamphetamine is an extremely powerful drug and is so dangerous because it only takes one time to become seriously
Millions are abusing marijuana every day. In fact, 1 out of 7 high school students smoke marijuana more than once a day. Marijuana is taken very lightly and is the most highly used illegal drug. For this reason, society should know its short and long term effects on the brain. Marijuana can effect these two areas emotionally or physically. Also in some cases physical damages causes the emotional response. Although most public information on drugs are funded by anti-drug organizations, hopefully we will still learn these true facts of marijuana in spite of that.
Growing up, I’ve always been taught that drugs are bad, and my parents have always told me that there is nothing good to them. I remember taking D.A.R.E in fifth grade, learning how marijuana was bad for you and that you should go to jail if you use it. My teachers and parents were my role models though, so I took in everything they told me as a fact, until now. Now I realize that drugs are a good thing. Drugs are a way of life, and they are used by millions of people everyday. There are drugs such as advil, which is used to help patients who suffer from many things, including headaches and fevers. But the drug i’m talking about is marijuana.
Drug is "a chemical substance such as a narcotic or a hallucinogen that affects the central
My neighbor was a smart and athletic kid when we first met, but following his parents’ divorce he suffered from substance abuse. At times we could see cuts in his nose, smell smoke from his room, and notice that his teeth were not as white and straight as they used to be. As a kid, I was not aware of the implications of his physical changes, but as time passed I learned he had become addicted to drugs such as cannabis and methamphetamine. Although we have covered cannabis and amphetamines in class, I am interested in the recovery stages of methamphetamine abuse and its impact on the brain and social relationships. Overall, meth use has declined over the past decade but the meth abuse problem still stands and there is no FDA-approved drug treatment
Methamphetamine is a synthetic chemical, methamphetamine is a powerful, highly addictive synthetic stimulant that triggers the release of high levels of dopamine and serotonin in the brain. Often called meth, ice, crystal or crank. The drug is a white, odorless bitter crystalline powder that can be snorted, injected, smoked or orally ingested (Methamphetamine 2014). Meth gives users an intense rush followed by an increase in energy, euphoria, increased libido and stamina (Methamphetamine 2014). People who use methamphetamine long-term may experience anxiety, confusion, insomnia, and mood disturbances and display violent behavior. They may also show symptoms of psychosis, such as paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions (for example, the sensation of insects crawling under the skin), extreme weight loss, severe dental problems (“meth mouth”), and skin sores caused by scratching (Methamphetamine 2014).
The use and manufacturing of methamphetamines was intended to have a positive effect on the 20th century as a treatment for ailments such as obesity, depression, and ADHD but ended up having a negative effect due to overuse and abuse of the drug. Methamphetamines and their various strands have had a negative effect on the 20th century and still affects America today. Not only does the drug have destructive short-term effects on the body, it also has many long-term effects. Abusers of this substance become easily hooked, and it is not easy to recover from a meth addiction. Due to meth 's high addiction rate, large numbers of people try it once and cannot quit, therefore negatively affecting not only their own lives, but on the lives of
Most drugs have dangerous side effects that could potentially kill you, or leave you permanently disabled. There are so many different kinds of drugs that are bad for you, but in my opinion based off of my research I think the most dangerous drug someone could take would be Scopolamine, or “The Devils Breath”. This drug comes from a plant typically found in Columbia and when a person is under the influence of the drug they completely lose all free will decisions. Testimonials I watched said people will literally do whatever you want them to do. Their minds basically become enslaved during the high. The chemical compound within Scopolamine is called Burandanga. This is the compound that causes hallucinations, and lack of free will. I think
Have you ever dealt with the effects of drug addict? A drug is a person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol, which has a psychological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body. The effects of drug use can vary depending on the person. According to “Causes and types of narcotic addiction: A Psychosocial View” in the Psychiatric Quarterly it says, “The causes of drugs stem from the manner of which you were introduced to it whether it be by abnormal curiosity, chance encounters with addicts and narcotic peddlers, or prolonged illness” (Ausubel). The effects of drugs can be have different effects on everyone differently depending if its for pleasure or for relieving pain Most of the effects of drugs occur in the brain, where it increases the level of dopamine at a specific site possibly giving the addict the pleasure they were feigning for (Robbins). As a child I didn’t know much about drugs except for what your parents and teachers at school tell you which is, “Just Say No.”
