Metamorphosis
How, I, Alexandria Hardman went from a preschooler being placed in time-out in Mrs. Luana's, Little Learners Academy, to an eighteen-year-old, applying for college, and preparing for her three upcoming graduations.
Exploring my past, I looked at the cork board covered with pictures in my bedroom. I see my preschool graduation picture, with my grin full of baby teeth and blonde ringlets. It reminds me of the first time I remember feeling failure. As an only child, I was loquacious, which is how I ended up in time-out. I remember feeling shame, rejected, and isolated. I knew I did not want to feel these feelings again. I learned to keep quiet and pay attention. Following the rules became my motto.
While following the rules

This path helped me discovered that dramatic events often have distant, even subtle causes. My family was effected by the 2008 housing crisis, just before the crisis, we moved to a new area, my dad started a new job, and we purchased a new home. Soon after my father was laid off and was unemployed on and off for two years. This was a stressful time in our lives, but also a time that brought me close to my dad who was "Mr. Mom" at the time. At the latest lay off he knew it was time for a drastic change. With the urging of a friend, he packed up his tool box and drove to Williston, North Dakota with no job and no place to live. He took a leap of faith, it was a gamble between success and failure. The day he arrived in Williston, he received a job and a place to stay. It was heartbreaking to have him leave. He is my hero, he moved fourteen hours away, worked seven days a week, twelve hours a day to support us.
More importantly, it brought us to the path we are on today. As a family, we decided to move closer to Williston, our goal was to have dad visit monthly instead of quarterly. He did not want me growing up in the oil field, but he did not want to miss my childhood. We would move to somewhere in Montana. This was our fourth move and the security of 'home' was gone. Moving a lot made it difficult to maintain long-term close relationships, resulting in no roots, or permanence

It is exciting to discover solutions to problems that affect others, as I am able to do this as I tutor students in algebra and chemistry at Montana State University Billings. I take an active interest in math and science and plan to get a degree in Chemical Engineering with a teaching options with the hope of being there to develop the next lithium ion battery, invent a new material to replace plastic, or develop a new liquid to replace soda. I love sharing math and science with college students and have specifically enjoyed helping out a disabled college student. Students are extraordinary in their own way. Finding out how to help them discover and share their gifts is
Another critical moment in my life that changed me forever occurred in August of 2001. At the peak of hurricane season, Louisiana was terribly affected by Hurricane Katrina. Katrina devastated millions of people across the south. For the first time in my life I got to experience what it felt like to be homeless. I had lost everything! And even though it was not much, it still mattered. There were several moments when I prayed and wished that my father could be there. No child, my age should have to go through with what I did. In hopes to find assistance, my mother left me and my siblings with my grandmother for a few months. These months were terrifying. I remember crying several nights
Lilian’s family would talk about their day at school during dinner. Thus, Lilian learned how to describe situations, events, scenery, and people. In addition, she wrote for her high- school’s newspaper and literary magazine. Lilian graduated high-school at sixteen and wanted to go to college to earn her degree in teaching. Although,
(Brackett 2005) Hoping to get away from the isolation her peers and father gave her. Unfortunately she was at a loss, seeing as most of her classmates came from white privileged backgrounds. Something she knew nothing about. Things were not all bad, this isolation gave her time to focus on schooling as well as find her own creative voice in her writings. (Brackett 2005) After six years of schooling she finally graduated in 1978 with a master’s degree in fine arts and creative writing. (Brackett 2005) Managing to make her mother proud as well as herself she has a newfound confidence and is ready to focus on her new
Lady Macbeth’s Role in The Tragedy of Macbeth The world famous Shakespearian tragedy known as Macbeth, arguably one of the most pivotal and important characters was Lady Macbeth, as not only was she the Thane’s wife, but she was the conductor of the symphony of chaos, sadness, and betrayal during the Scottish wars or a catalyst of the combination of supernatural factors and power hungry motives that led to the unfolding reactions that went down following the king's unlawful murder. Lady Macbeth was involved in manipulating Macbeth to do things for their mutual and personal gain. One of the important events Lady Macbeth contributed to was the planning and convincing of the murdering of King Duncan with Macbeth. There are many ways she did this. One of the ways was how she talked to Macbeth.
A parable is a story used to tell a lesson. The lesson that is being taught in The Metamorphosis is to respect your family members and to always be there for them no matter what. Gregor’s family does not really care about him as a bug the same way that they did when he was a person. Towards the end of the book, Grete says, “It’s got to go, that’s the only way Father. You’ve got to get rid of the idea that that’s Gregor.” This shows that she does not think of Gregor as family anymore.
In The Metamorphosis Gregor Samsa is forced to deal with his transformation from a human being into an insect. After his transformation Gregor is no longer able to do everyday ordinary things. He now has to depend on someone to do these things for him. His younger sister, Grete, makes herself responsible for Gregor. She takes it upon herself to make sure that Gregor is fed and his room is cleaned. This leads to the question; why does she place such a huge responsibility on herself? An optimist like Gregor who only sees the good side of people would say it is because she is a loving and caring person. That her brother’s current condition makes her feel sorry for him and
My parent’s struggles taught me to never accept defeat because there are endless possibilities for those who don’t give up. Their perseverance for a better life sparked a sense of determination in me that ignited a fuel for prosperity, and an optimism for bigger and better opportunities not only for me, but for my
Dramatic events have occurred frequently in my life, and some affected me more than others. Some had negative effects like from first to third grade when I was bullied because of how I talked and my last name which led to me becoming shy and less talkative. My mission trip to Kentucky didn’t just help the people we were helping, but it also helped me in different ways. The work and what I saw made me appreciate what I had here, and got me to want to help people whenever I could. During some free time when the others where away, me and 2 friends got permission to go climb a mountain that was steep and tall. On the way up, a root came out of the wall and I almost fell, but it wasn’t tall and wouldn’t have done a lot. After getting to the top, we just started walking around and there was a small hill that we went down, but when I got to the bottom it was hard to stop and I was barely able to stop before I went off the edge. That part experience helped my fear of heights for the most parts. There have also been many people that have helped me out so much along the way, but the people that have done the most has been my church family. My church has allowed me to do many things, for example, like the Kentucky trip, a trip to cedar point, a church sports camp, and other things like cloths and food. The stuff my fellowship has done for me has gotten me involved and want to help others. Those are events and people that have
In every position, my greatest source of joy and motivation comes from being able to effectively support my students. Watching them learn something new, overcome challenges, or reach their goals always brings me the greatest sense of fulfillment. I have supported students in a variety of capacities such as answering homework questions, helping a student cope with the loss of multiple classmates, and others with their feelings of being unsafe in America. These moments, when my students trusted me with their struggles, are among my proudest accomplishments. With my future
Frank Kafka is considered one of the most influential writers of all time. Helmut Richter would agree with this statement. Richter agreed that Kafka was a very prominent figure in world literature and was amazed by his mechanics and word usage. I feel that his essay is supportive of Kafka’s writing, but also leaves out many important details in its brevity. Richter did not include Kafka’s flaws and tendencies in his essay.
Chrisman where we checked it and revised it to perfection. In the body of the literary criticism, the topics that were included were ambitions, obligations, desires, influences, then an analysis about how these elements impacted the novella. Lastly, it was ended with a conclusion paragraph that wrapped up my essay. Creating a better understanding of The Metamorphosis was my purpose for creating my essay. That story has so much material and seems drawn out, but when reading it for a second time I realized there was more details than I originally thought. My audience was directed at anyone whose ambition was to obtain a deeper understanding of Franz Kafka's work through my context of the piece. The context I used was that Gregor was pulled in many conflicting directions and because of those conflicts it impacted the entire meaning of the novella and changed the sense of irony the story portrayed. I believe that I did a wonderful job creating this essay; however, I need to work on keeping my thoughts together instead of spread throughout the entire essay. I am organized when deciding what I am writing about and when conducting my research, but I need to become more organized in my
What is the significance of windows and furniture in Gregor’s room in Franz Kafka’s ‘The Metamorphosis’?
Working with children has been a motivating force for me to continue on my journey as as a student. While studying at my community college, I obtained a preschool teaching permit so that I could teach preschool and I also have been a behavior interventionist working hands on with Autistic children. I am inspired because, I also have a learning disability and I know the struggles that it takes to be successful. I have dyscalculia, a math disability. Being a student with this is not easy, but never let it stifle me from being the best teacher and student I can be, and without the help of great teachers, I might have never had the chance to achieve my dreams of becoming a Sociology student at UCLA. So I want to give back. This is what inspires
