1. Mestizo • Mestizos are people of Spanish and Native American mixed descent. This culture was born in the 16th-17th centuries during the time of the encomienda systems. • Mestizos affected history because after this mixed race was created, a hierarchy was formed in the Spanish colonies that included the natives at the bottom, Spanish at the head, and mestizos in between the two. 2. Iroquois Confederacy • Called “The League of the Iroquois” by the English, this was a confederation made up of 5 independent Native American tribes, or “nations”, located in what is now New York. It began in the late 16th century and lasted until around the time of the American Revolution. The tribes that made up the league were the Mohawks, the Oneida, the …show more content…
Puritans • In 16th century England, in the midst of King Henry VIII’s separation from the Catholic church, this was a group of Protestants whose goal was to truly purify the Church of England of any Catholic practices. The Puritans believed in predestination. A group of Puritans, called Separatists, chose to leave the Church of England completely and settled in the New England colonies. • Due to predestination, the Puritans believed they were destined for either heaven or hell. They also believed, however, if they worked very hard and did well in God’s eyes, they would receive a sign as to which they were destined for. Consequently, the Puritans had an incredible work ethic. The Puritans also had strict social codes, which caused them to be fairly intolerant of other religions and therefore have somewhat hostile relations with the natives of the area. 10. King Philip’s War • In 1675, a Wampanoag chief named Metacom (known as King Philip by the English) established an alliance between Indian tribes in New England. This alliance sprang frequent and violent attacks on English settlements throughout the North. However, they did not succeed as the English fought back. Many settlers were killed, but an even larger number of natives were. In the end, King Philip’s family was sold into slavery and he was decapitated then put on display for all to

A Puritan defined is “a member of a group of English Protestants of the late 16th and 17th centuries who regarded the Reformation of the Church of England under Elizabeth as incomplete and sought to simplify and regulate forms of worship.” Puritan society in America depended on the belief that all members were working for the glory of God. The Puritans did not allow deviations from the strict code of behavior which would not allow any member to have individuality. They restricted any type of entertainment, except that which was endorsed by the church. They worked and worshipped.
It inspired people to speak out against the religious government on aspects they did not believe in.
In June of 1675, King Philip, called Metacom by the Indians, led the Wampanoag, Algonquin, Nipmunk, and Narragansett Indians in massive attacks against the English in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The English colonists allied with the Mohegan, Pequot, Mohawk, and Christian Indians and fought back. There were organized raids back and forth which resulted in thousands of murders. On both sides, women and children were killed, tortured, and the survivors sold to slavery.
By the nature of their belief system the Puritans came to New England to lead a life of both hard work and thrift. They believed that any material wealth that they were able to accumulate was proof that God was smiling upon them due to their lifestyle. This was the case in the numerous colonies that the Puritans formed in New England.
Puritans live in a life with a life of rules. They live by religious beliefs and literature purposes. The puritans believed in God being all powerful, Bible is God’s true law, success is a sign of improvement, and how education was written to glorify God and for education only not for entertainment.
The puritans go create the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They didn’t have strict rules like England, people were not forced to go to church, it all seems great. However, there were many issues. Puritans believed in Calvinism, or predestination. This was the idea that everything is preset by God and nothing you do can change your fate. “Nothing a person did in his or her lifetime could alter God’s choice or provide assurance that the person was predestined for salvation with the elect or damned to hell with the doomed multitude.” (The American
Religion had a powerful impact on Puritans lives. Many Puritan people had faith in a supreme being, God, and the teachings of his Divine Son, Jesus Christ. They’d assume that if you weren’t a good Christian they would suffer in hell, but if you were one would be saved by god. An example would be in the sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” the speaker strongly describes about how being a bad Christian has its consequences and the good things that come of being a good Christian. “Many that were very lately in the same miserable condition that you are in are now in a happy state, with their hearts filled with love to him who has loved them, and washed them from their sins in his own blood, and rejoicing in hope of the glory of God.”(152)This explains how they had a strong feeling towards god’s ways. By being concerned about their religious life and being good Christians.
The Puritan people migrated to what is now present-day America due to their persecution in Europe. Their religion observed many beliefs that did not agree with other European Christians. These ideals stayed with the Puritans as they settled in America to build their idealistic, utopian society. Even though Puritan society was largely unsuccessful in meeting their expectations, several of their fundamental values are still exemplified by Americans today. These beliefs included the dislike of anything dull, an intense hatred of tyranny, and the idea that America is a shining example for the rest of the world to follow.
In Mexico, a large diversity of lifestyles are found, this was caused by the colliding of cultures after the Spanish Conquest took place, this new identity of combined cultures is known as the Mestizo identity. The Mestizo identity was created when the Spaniards took over the Mexica and many people traveled to Mexico, causing civilizations to intertwine with one another. The Mexica arrived in Lake Texcoco where they settled and created Tenochtitlan ,their complex society, and impenetrable belief system. When the Spanish took over the Mexica, in 1519, the Mexica empire fell apart. The Mestizo identity was created when the Spaniards conquered the Mexica and tried to create new Spain, but failed because the Mexica identity was too complex and
Over the years, people broadcast the Puritans as a group of people who were extremely legalistic and against anything that would be considered fun in the modern world. This incorrect broadcast of the Puritans has led to many misconceptions about how they lived when they came to the New World and settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Puritans were not legalistic, but rather sought to please God by creating a society that focused on fulfilling their calling through the institutions of family, work, education, and government in a positive environment. This led to a fruitful society when it followed in its original intentions.
The doctrine of predestination kept all Puritans constantly working to do good in this life to be chosen for the next eternal life. God had already chosen who would be in Heaven or Hell, and each
Puritanism was a religious movement that began in the late sixteenth century. The puritans were a group of reformed protestants who sought to “purify” the Church of England during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. However, puritanism was not just a historical movement, it was a lifestyle that the puritans brought to New England. Puritanism can be defined by predestination, calling, covenant, Protestant ethic, and conversion.
While the Puritans are generally perceived as hard working and God fearing people, they were also a highly educated people and their education found its expression in their writings. Their writings reflected their engrained beliefs, especially religion which was integral to their existence and hence early American literature is infused with religiosity.
The Indigenous culture is not simply a blend of Mexico used to be, but the results of a unique historical process that developed with an originality all its own. This culture was divided into many different social classes after the Spanish took the reins. Like they started to develop a governmental system for the Indigenous people and they started to tax them with the Bourbon Reforms. Many Indigenous people hated the thought of this so they took matters in to their own
