A democratic meritocracy
My ideal country would be a democratic meritocracy. In a meritocracy, one’s rewards are dependent on how much one works. This means that there is a lot of incentive to work hard in this country. Now to the interesting part, the democracy. I believe in a pure democracy, rather than a representative democracy. Ancient Greece and Switzerland, are both pure democracy’s. Direct democracy is like, but distinct from, representative democracy, in which people vote for representatives who then enact policy initiatives.
Depending on the system in use, direct democracy might entail passing executive decisions, the use of sortation, making laws, directly electing or dismissing officials, and conducting trials. Two leading forms of direct democracy are participatory democracy and deliberative democracy.
Semi direct democracies in which representatives administer day-to-day governance, but the citizens remain the sovereign, allow for three forms of popular action: referendum (plebiscite), initiative, and recall. The first two forms—referendums and initiatives—are examples of direct legislation.
Compulsory referendum subjects the legislation drafted by political elites to a binding popular vote. This is the most common form of direct legislation. Popular referendum empowers citizens to make a petition

This dispenses the need for man built defenses and a full-time defense force. However, I feel it would be unwise for a country to have no defense force. I suggest that there would be 15 months national service. This would be split up into 5 terms which could be done at any time between the age of 18 and 30. There would be very low taxes which would attract many countries and banks. This would in turn create lots of jobs for the highly specialized workers. This country will not have a nuclear program, as I feel this will give it an offensive
The legislative power shall be vested by the people with decision brought about by vote.
Representative Democracy – the citizens choose a smaller group to represent them, make laws, and govern on their behalf, but the people remain the source of the government’s authority.
Another argument for direct democracy being used more widely in the UK is that it prevents the government and MPs making extremely unpopular decisions and ultimately, negatively impacting on the general public’s life. On many problems and issues it is particularly difficult for parliament to know which way to vote, additionally with many issues that require accurate public opinion and have considerable historical impact, for example, a constitutional change. Direct democracy not only evades and prevents detrimental decisions for the whole country, but it also aids the government and helps them to maintain their popularity and further circumvent an uprising or protest. An example of this in the past is the Referendum on the changing of the voting system in 2011. In the 2011 referendum it was decided by the people that this voting change was not wanted. Holding a referendum on this particularly issue prevented an unpopular decision that might have been made by the government alone. This is significant because the government’s popularity is
Direct democracy is a government in which the people decide. Direct democracy overall is a positive thing, but as with everything, there can be some dangers. Direct democracy is a form of democracy in which the people are able to vote and form consensus on policies directly. The people have the power of recall, which gives the public the power to remove elected officials from office before the end of their term if they do not feel they are doing a great job. California voters are also able to help make laws by creating ballot propositions.
Democracy is a system of government in which the utmost influence is consigned in the individuals and implemented directly by them or by their designated representatives under a free voting arrangement. According to my research direct democracy also known as pure democracy is when all the individuals come together and make decisions by voting. They are the one who decide the regulation and guidelines through which the people will oversee. In contrast a representative democracy is when the population designate leaders who makes judgements on their behalf. There are many differences between a direct and a representative democracy and some of them are that in a direct democracy the public have authority and are responsible for decision making
The initiative process is a great example of direct democracy. In California, for the ballot initiative process, citizens draw up
A representative democracy is where certain groups are represented by a number of people who were elected by the public (that meet the voting requirements) based off of their prospering abilities to help make big decisions for the country. Our constitution proves this fact according to this quote: “The House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states, and that the electors shall have the qualifications requisite for the electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislature.” quoted from document five. The definition of Democracy is: A form of government that allows most citizens of a state or a country to influence decisions based off of a popular vote. Another form of democracy is a Direct Democracy. A Direct Democracy is a form of government where all big and small decisions are strictly in the hands of the citizens of the public. Even though that Direct Democracy is different than Representative Democracy, they both have some similarities. For instance, in Document Three it states that “When settling private disputes, everyone is equal before the laws”. In our constitution, it says all men should be treated as
However, referendum refers to the process by which the legislative body proposes a state law that is voted directly
Direct democracy can be defined as a system of democracy in which citizens participate in the majority of legislation; therefore, granting them political self-determination. A representative democracy (also indirect democracy) is a form of democracy founded on the principle of elected officials representing a group of people. A direct democracy has leaders that are chosen specifically by “The People”. There is no Electoral College, or elected officials, to cast the votes of the people, the people cast their own direct votes.
The racial income gap illustrates that the United States is not a meritocracy society. A meritocracy society would be an area where everyone no matter what color or background they are from have the chance to succeed based on their own ability. Although it is certainly appealing and a magnificent way of viewing our society, in reality no society can ever truly function as a meritocracy and therefore having no control at birth and the environment where we grow up, and who we get surrounded with puts major races, especially in the United States in disadvantage, a country that is far from meritocratic compared to other nation.
Meritocracy, the system where each person's progression is due to their achievements, is seen constantly throughout society and it is suggested to be in Australian higher education. This essay will argue that rural students who attend or plan on attending university challenge this suggestion of meritocracy in Australian universities, as rural students are unequal compared to urban students. This essay will show that universities are not based on merit alone, as rural students are disadvantaged in areas such as distance, family & community values, course availability and university availability.
I was player 2 for Team C, and I was content with my position in the “social structure.” Although I did not have as much money or property as Vincent (player 1), I had enough money to buy some property and play the game comfortably. Because of my wealth, I made it to the end of the time limit.
Do Americans believe meritocracy exists in America? Do talented people who work hard earning the reward that they deserve? Do talented people have enough challenges for their promotion that they merit? Living in the United States, many people think meritocracy exists because people expect about the opportunities to learn, to work, to earn, and to deserve. People also think they may have chances to earn what they deserve because the trusting of meritocracy. However, talented people do not receive any adequate reward as they expect. Meritocracy does not exist in America and becomes a myth for many debates. Moreover, most talented people in America who work hard still have fewer resources, less promotion,
What is Direct Democracy? Also known as pure Democracy. A form of Democracy.
Democracy is a form of government which dominates the western world. In democracy, every person is given equal input into matters of the state, although this does happen to varying degrees. There exist many different types of democracy. Absolute or direct democracy occurs when each citizen personally participates in all decision-making processes. This system is difficult to maintain due to the vast number of people and the necessity for all people to be informed, logical, and educated when making many decisions. This form of democracy has not existed in significant sized populations. Representative democracy is a type of government in which the people elect government officials to make decisions concerning the state. The two most prevalent types of representative democracy are democratic republics and parliamentary democracies. In a democratic republic, such as the United States or Canada, the people elect both their representatives in government and their head of state. In a parliamentary democracy, such as the United Kingdom or Australia, the people elect their representatives and their representatives elect their head of state.
