Mercutio is a middle aged, witty and family bound, dirty blonde haired man. Romeo is running away after the cavalry party when Mercutio exclaims “If love be blind, love cannot hit the mark.” (2.1.34) What Mercutio is leading on to is that Romeo shouldn’t chase Juliet’s love for it would be lust not love.. Benvolio and Mercutio are talking when Tybalt stumbles upon them in the street at Verona. Mercutio, enraged at the sight of Tybalt, says “And but one word with one of us? Couple it with something; make it a word and a blow.” (3.1.38-39) What Mercutio is doing here is trying to make Tybalt strike him at his own will, almost mocking him saying he doesn’t have the heart to stab him. Moreover, Mercutio changes in his demeanor having more of an aggressive attitude towards Tybalt, daring him to strike at him. Mercutio is blinded by his anger and gets what he deserves. Mercutio is attacked by Tybalt through his arrogant

Mercutio is Romeo’s big cousin. Mercutio isn’t the best friend to have because most of the time he’s getting into trouble with other people. The time when he was walking through the square with his friends the montagues, Tybalt and his crew the Capulets had showed up. Tybalt started to ask where Romeo was because he wanted to deliver a message from Juliet. Mercutio started to joke around with Tybalt by calling him names and making fun of him, but Tybalt didn’t like that so he had challenged Mercutio to a sword battle. Romeo finally showed up and was telling them to stop fighting before one of them killed one another. Mercutio is such a heavy headed person he doesn’t listen to his cousin so he goes ahead and starts to fight Tybalt. Tybalt
An argument occurs between Mercutio and Tybalt which leads to flaring tempers and aggressive actions. Romeo arrives and sees what is happening between Mercutio and Tybalt. The heated exchange led to Tybalt killing Mercutio, which made Romeo so furious that he killed Tybalt in retaliation for him killing Mercutio.
He thinks that what really exists is infatuation. When Romeo complains to Benvolio that he is in love with Rosaline, Mercutio responds by telling him that the feeling has nothing to do with love or romance, but it is a sexual urge. Here, all Mercutio is trying to prove is that there is no true love. He is trying to tell Romeo that he should not look for true love, but he should only find a way to quench his sexual urge. Mercutio cannot tell the difference between love and sex.
An essential element which leads to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths is the pressure that Romeo feels to please his peers. This desire to please his friends causes him to not want to tell them of his love for Juliet. Mercutio, one of Romeo’s comrades, is constantly referring to love in a sexual sense rather than a romantic one. Romeo adjusts his speech and actions accordingly so he still fits in with his peers. When the Nurse is looking for Romeo so she can bring news back to Juliet, Romeo allows Mercutio to make inappropriate jokes at her expense, such as; “No hare, sir, unless a hare, sir, in a Lenten pie—that is, something stale and hoar ere it be spent.” (Shakespeare, II.iv.68-69). This intense contrast between Mercutio and Romeo’s
Romeo and Juliet's relationship was already doomed from the beginning but Mercutio helped the tragic events happen much faster. Mercutio showed us what was going on in the lives of the Capulet and Montague through humor and laughs. Mercutio's mood and behavior throughout the three acts that he is in reflects upon the relationship between Romeo and Juliet, and the two families as a whole. The more relaxed he was the better things were in the city of Verona but as soon as he started becoming more serious, so did Romeo and Juliet's relationship. Mercutio’s behavior and moods mirror the state of Romeo and Juliet’s relationship throughout the play.
A man who was a jokester and filled with joy is caught between the rage of two families’ struggle, and eventually he becomes rage-filled himself. In the story of Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio, is a side character that may seem static throughout, but underneath, he is a lot more complex than he seems. Mercutio is a close friend to Mercutio, whom he contrasts, his seriousness with his jokes and Romeo’s pining with his cynicism. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio grows from a jokester and fun person to becoming increasingly angry at the two houses for their conflict. Symbols were in the visual essay that described Mercutio as a domino’s because his death caused the chain of events such as Romeo, in a rage killing Tybalt causing him to be banished,
[Tybalt under Romeo's arm stabs Mercutio, and flees with his followers]” (III.i.86-88) This shows Scene shows that Mercutio provoked Tybalt by saying many things about him causing Tybalt to get mad at him and stab Mercutio.
Mercutio is an easily aggravated character, quick to violence. Romeo is willing to take verbal abuse from Tybalt whenever because he would rather die than live without Juliet. Mercutio’s hot-headed and violent personality is revealed before he fights, and dies at Tybalt’s hand. Tybalt enters the scene and begins insulting Mercutio. When Romeo appears Mercutio begins to insult Romeo and will not allow this, saying “Alla stoccato carries it away!”
Tybalt quickly provokes Mercutio and they fight to the death, thereupon Mercutio is slain. This drives Romeo to fight Tybalt, “Alive in triumph—and Mercutio slain! Away to heaven, respective lenity, and fire-eyed fury be my conduct now. Now, Tybalt, take the “villain” back again. That late thou gavest me, for Mercutio’s soul is but a little way above our heads, staying for thine to keep him company.
Mercutio is a relative of the prince and friend to Romeo. He is an eloquent man and becomes the center of attention whenever he appears in the play. It seems like he dominates Romeo with his teasing and irony. He mocks Romeo as he thinks he is too sentimental and tells him how foolish he is; he turns all of Romeo’s thought about love into sexual metaphors.
Love has already overcome him and controls all of his thoughts and actions. This love prevents Mercutio from saving Romeo and keeping peace between the families. In Act 3, scene 1, Mercutio fights Tybalt on behalf of Romeo and his relationship with Romeo. Romeo attempts to break up the fight, but Tybalt stabs Mercutio. As he is dying, Mercutio says, "A plague o' both your houses!
. Firstly, Tybalt is to blame for Mercutio’s death as he actually gave him the wound that killed him. Also, Tybalt provokes Mercutio by insulting Romeo, ‘Thou art a villain.’ This is one of the biggest insults that Tybalt can give and would usually be followed by a duel. However, Romeo calmly replies by saying ‘Villain I am none / Therefore farewell. I see thou know’st me not.’ Because Romeo is not defending his honour, Mercutio is provoked by Tybalt’s insults and starts insulting Tybalt himself. This is what leads to the two of them fighting and Mercutio getting his fatal wound. So, if Tybalt didn’t insult Romeo or fight Mercutio, Mercutio wouldn’t have been killed.
A story about arranged marriage, death, and feuding families leaves little to no room for lightheartedness, but Mercutio embraces a humorous approach to bad situations. Even amidst Romeo’s sulking and sadness about his love life, Mercutio pokes fun and commands that “If love be rough with you, be rough with love; prick love for pricking, and you beat love down.” (I.iiii.27-28). Mercutio is telling Romeo to be equally as hurtful
Mercutio, despite the circumstances displays his lighthearted nature. The actor should speak in a mocking voice, tauntingly circling Tybalt who should react with restrained anger, clenched fists and a hand on his sword. Mercutcio continues this, ignoring benvolios vain attempts at keeping the peace, until Romeo enters from the corner of the stage. With his entrance Tybalt finally breaks out of Mercutcios circle to face Romeo. He should say the line "here
