While sitting at a pub, Collins was approached by one of the officers, who did not have a warrant, and was taken to the ground and placed in a throat hold to prevent any swallowing of the evidence. Following the incident, the officer found a green balloon which contained heroin inside it, and proceeded to arrest Collins for possession of drugs. Collins has claimed that her right under s.8 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms has been infringed, which guarantees her to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure
Melissa Barthelemy moved to the Long Island area in 2007 in order to start her own life. Over the two years that Melissa lived there, she was a prostitute and put ads for her service on Craigslist. She stayed close with her younger sister, Amanda, who still lived in Buffalo with their parents. Late on July 11, 2009, Melissa sent a text-message to her sister to confirm Amanda’s visit to see her in a couple days. During the day of July 12, 2009, a local bank had a recording of Melissa depositing one thousand dollars into her account, believed to be from a “date” she had the previous night. Before she left, she withdrew one hundred dollars. The last time that Melissa was seen alive was the afternoon of July 12, 2009 sitting outside her apartment
During the summer of 2016 Bianca Spence was fed up with the heightened fever of the subway carts on the 2nd line of Bloor and Danforth because the air conditioners were broken and needed repairs, but since John Tory and the city council had requested that all city agencies and departments including the TTC to cut their budgets by 2.6 percent by next year they couldn’t afford speedy repairs for the subway carts. That caused Bianca to take actions into her own hands so she challenged Tory to ride the carts with her in hopes that he may reconsider the budget decisions as well are raise awareness on the subject because she contacted the mayor of Toronto.

The rape and murder of Pamela George, an Indigenous sex worker from Canada, remains as one of the most prescient examines of colonial violence and spatialized justice. This essay examines the George case in light of broader ideas about race, gender, and sexuality. In particular, it questions the role of the Canadian legal process in light of white privilege, and the lack of humanity and dignity gave to women of Indigenous descent. I will begin by outlying how George autonomy was taken away through stigmas attached to sex work and her Indigeneity. Next, I will contextualize this within an ongoing and historical process of colonization and existing literature relating to structural violence against Indigenous women.
Anita Stanley came into the fiscal services department today about getting a reimbursement for the gas she had to pay out of pocket for a state van. She got very mad and upset when she found out she wasn’t going to get the money back today. There is a process when getting a reimbursement through the state. I could hear her yelling and telling Dee that she wanted the cash now. Anita even wanted Dee to take $20 out of her own pocket to give her. CM Gilmore contacted KeKe Orum who is a friend of Holly O’Brien. She reported the following information regarding the family:
Great post, I found the case about Pamela Johnson to be very interesting. Based on the information that you provided many could argue that Stephens was simply defending himself. Personally I don’t believe Stephens did anything wrong it seem he was simply doing his job trying to stop miss Johnson from entering an area where she was prohibited and Mr. Stephens was defending himself from Mrs. Johnson when he hit her with his radio. Maybe he shouldn’t have used his radio to hit her, but then again if she wants to say that there is no difference between a privately employed special officer with full police power and a regular Chicago police officer then should be charged with assaulting a police officer.
