Over my high school career I have interned at two finance-oriented companies. IN 2012, I started at Megastar Financial, a mortgage company located in downtown Denver. Here, I learned about the complex mortgage industry along while assisting in the accounting and underwriting departments. The company I currently intern for is Innovest Portfolio Solutions. Here, I work in the marketing department, however I have a variety of exposure to the different pieces of the company’s different departments and committees. As I have been exposed to the world of finance, I have grown fond of the discipline. Along with these internships I have been an apprentice of both geophysics and botany at the University of Wyoming. The apprenticeships were completed
My experience as an intern at 3M consisted of carrying out laboratory research to ensure the safety and durability of the large-scale manufacturing medicine filter, Zeta Plus™. This experience advanced my ability to collaborate, think ahead, apply what I have learned in Chemistry and Mathematics, and increase my expertise in computer software. My current position in Community Relations at Travelers entails for me to communicate with and manage volunteer opportunities for over 3,000 employees, in addition to connecting Travelers with non-profit partners, event planning, and serving as a liaison in Saint Paul for my remote manager and team in Hartford, Connecticut. This position enables me to not only exercise and expand my communication and technical skills, but also allows for me to learn about myself. And lastly, as a Resident Advisor at the University of Minnesota, I have been able to serve as an academic, social, and personal resource for forty first-year students. As an RA, communication and time management have been at the heart of my success. As a junior studying Marketing and Computer Science, my interests lie within the space of sales marketing, technology and international business, and I strongly believe that Morgan Stanley will allow for me to expand my knowledge in these areas. I sincerely hope to continue this learning process as an intern this coming
My artifacts for this assignment are “Thomas-Kilmann Instrument” for conflict management, “Observer feedback sheet” I received from my colleague after the oral presentation that I gave in class and “The Competent Communicator graphic” provided by our instructor Amanda Le Rougetel. My reason behind using these documents as artifacts because these documents reflect my personality as a communicator. These documents made me realize on which parts of my communication style I have to work to become a competent communicator.

I have chosen my “AODA training” to be in my portfolio because it shows how I understand how to act when someone has a disability. These are the people who need our help and we need to respect them. In this training we had to use teamwork skills. We did a scenario where one has a disability and where other needs to communicate with them in a certain way. We learned a lot of different methods when it came to different disability conditions. We learned how to help them and how we need to handle them as well. In this training the instructor told us many situations and what the people around them did to help. We had learned about when we have a client who has a disability, we have to take our time with that person, there is no rush and communicate
My degree path has prepared me for this internship. As a business marketing major I have knowledge of many key business concepts as they have been taught to me by one of the top universities in the country.
For this Weekly Writing Portfolio, I have chosen the pieces that is m proud of. The first piece that I have chosen is about a girl who wakes up in a shed with no memory of the days before. I wrote this fictional story for two weeks, August 15-21. When I first started writing, I got so many ideas, that I couldn't stop myself. So, I ended up writing for almost three hours! It was only after I finished that I noticed how long I had been writing. I decided to share my story for two weeks, since it was so long. I have chosen this piece because it was the first weekly writing I completed, and I believe I have improved this semester. The next piece is haiku poems that I wrote for September 19. I actually only ended up writing seven poems in an hour, because it was harder than I thought it would be. I decided to wrote poems this week because it was the time you have said to get out of our comfort zones and try something new. I had to research the rules of haiku poems, because I had totally forgotten . The reason I chose this piece is because it was the first time I tried something new, and I don't think it turned out to be a complete failure. The third piece is a first person narrative story, which I wrote on September 26. This story is about a few friends who are having a sleepover. Even though this story is not based on a real sleepover, the events seem very likely to happen. I have chosen this piece because I really enjoyed writing this narration.
The class and racial diversity determines the rental income and profitability for AMH. Simply put, the redlining and racism in real estate is well-documented to show that the disparities and prejudice still occur in the housing market (Madrigal, 2014). To actively practice corporate social responsibilities, AMH should be more transparent in its effort to strive toward racial, social, and economic justice in competitive housing market. For example, the competition in the leasing market may limit the affordable option for low-income tenants. AMH can diversify the portfolio to specifically cater toward these marginalized populations of color, low-income, and disabilities even if the number of this portfolio is small. The existence and acknowledgement
Morningstar Inc. makes investing easier for individuals by gathering all of the necessary information needed to make decisions regarding what types of investments would benefit the client as well as where to invest (O. Ferrell, Hirt, & L. Ferrell, 2009). Having access to all of this information provides the potential investor with the knowledge needed to make an investment decision without having to do all of the research themselves. Furthermore, Morningstar Inc. utilizes a rating system grading available investments from lower and more risky options to higher value choices which would have a potentially higher level of return.
This education along with my past job experience, I believe, has given me the necessary skills and traits to succeed in a work environment like the one I am applying for. During my time at Oregon, I’ve been taught business fundamentals and important business tools such as Microsoft Excel which have prepared me for the real world. Along with schooling, past jobs have given me real-life experience which have improved my communication skills and have made me an extremely hard worker. I believe these skills and assets I’ve listed above will prepare me for this internship and allow me to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible while doing so.
The situation that brought me from my first internship to the second one was frustrating and difficult. Nonetheless, it provided me with beneficial learning experiences for my career and life in general. One of the silver linings of interning at these two considerably different internship experiences was increasing my knowledge of two different types of business. The first of these areas was in the Non-Profit organization at PACS, where their mission is to empower individuals who are struggling. The nonprofit industry has always deeply interested me, and what I learned at PACS only fueled that interest. The time I spent at PACS was brief and ended abruptly. Nonetheless, I learned valuable and significant information and gained an understanding of the various business characteristics that are essential in nonprofit organizations.

Here at the University of Florida, I am studying Finance. However, I did not start out in the Finance field. At the beginning of my Freshman fall semester, I was enrolled as a Nuclear Engineering major. After taking Chemistry and other introductory engineering courses, I realized the science aspect of it all was not for me. I came to the conclusion that I was more interested in the math side of things so I switched to a math-related major, Finance. My aunt was a Finance major here at UF and I have always been fascinated when she talks about her career path. Finance involves a different kind of math than just algebra or calculus. The type of math (like accounting for instance) that Finance includes interests me because it is geared
