Getting a good, quality education is very important to me. I feel that one should take every available opportunity there is to further his/her education. Therefore, I believe it is necessary that I step up and do whatever it takes to be that example. With the knowledge I obtain from my college degree, I plan to give back to my community in various ways by participating in the field of medical sonography. I have done many clinical rotations over the past three years of my high school career. From those experiences I have gained much needed knowledge that will help me to be a more contributing member to my community and those around me. I have learned how to communicate better with patients and how to listen and understand their needs. Although
I want to be part of the Ultrasound program because I realized that where I’m from people don’t consider going into a major like this. I was raised to become a doctor or a nurse it was either of those or your family will be disappointed. I looked at how many doctors and nurses my community has but rarely any ultrasound technicians. I also like to travel to different parts of the world and I would love to have those skills as a ultrasound technician to help those women who are unable to afford to go to a clinic to see if their baby is in good condition. A woman should never have to choose between making a decision about losing her kid, I want to be able to help those women that are struggling daily whether their baby has a health condition or even letting the parents know their baby gender.
The career that I have chosen is to become a diagnostic medical sonographer. Diagnostic Medical Sonographer’s use imaging equipment that directs waves into a patient’s body and sends echoes to an ultrasound machine which create an image. They help gather sonographic data to diagnose medical conditions and diseases as well as monitor fetal development. Sonographers must be able to perform appropriate procedures and provide anatomical, pathological, and psychological information. Sonographers must be able to provide information about the ultrasounds to the patients and be able to promote good health.
Even after school is completed, I will continue to pursue learning opportunities to grow with the profession in the changing healthcare world because I believe it is essential so that patients will have the best opportunity to succeed when working with me.
Diagnostic medical sonographers play a key role in the health care team and often work alongside doctors, nurses, and other technologists. They prepare patients by explaining the procedure and collect necessary patient history information prior to examination. An ultrasound is then performed, which is a non-invasive process that enables sonographers to send high-frequency sound waves into the body. The return signals are then analyzed to help visualize internal organs in 2D, 3D or 4D. These images help physicians with medical diagnoses and are also used for monitoring pregnancy. An ultrasound is often executed on many different areas of the body including the abdomen, pelvis, tissues, and vascular and cardiac systems. A DMS may also be required
One of the main reasons for choosing a healthcare career in todays society, aside from the basic need for a self sustaining income, is the opportunity to make differences in peoples lives. With the demand for healthcare professionals and alternative medicines on the rise, so is the need for adequately educated trained personnel. Diagnostic Medical Sonography is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to radiologic procedures such as x-ray and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Accounting for approximately 50,300 jobs in the United States in 2008, compared to the 214,000 jobs held by radiologic technicians, according to
To achieve my goal to attend Johnston Community College’s Medical Sonography program I have to start by completing an application for general college admission. After completing the admission process I will then have to start on my classes that are required for me to be accepted into the program. Once I fit the requirements for the program I will then I will then I will sign up for the Medical Sonography program, which should take about two years. To successfully reach my goal I may have to cut back on the hours that I take at my part time jobs. At the moment I have a lot of free time which allows me to have two job, once I begin working on my goal I expect to be forced to either quit one of my jobs or to cut back on my hours.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a career that falls within the medical and health field. Diagnostic medical sonographers utilize machinery known as sonographic scanners. These scanners create images of the patient's internal organs. There are a few other names that this specific career may be referred to as, which are Ultrasound Tech and/or Medical Imaging. Although though there are advancement possibilities, there are pros and cons about the career. The work environment may be difficult, and differential diagnosis is found within sonography. There is a lot of time and dedication needed as well as important information to know and understand about the career before deciding whether or not this is the chosen path that will be taken. I have decided that DMS is the career I want to be successful in because I have always had the interest of becoming a prenatal sonographer. I love working with people and I also wouldn’t mind being the person that could potentially save someone else’s life by
On Friday October 20th, I went to CDI south to shadow a sonographer. During this time, I got to sit closely to my mentor Tanya, and watch her complete ultrasounds on patients, and learn a lot more about the job. I was not able to do anything job related during this time, for many safety reasons, but I was able to sit right next to Tanya as she completed many different ultrasounds. During this shadowing session, we saw a total of 5 patients. Before every ultrasound, you have to prepare the room for the patient by putting a sheet on the bed, putting a pillow cover on the pillow, and retrieving towels for the patient after the ultrasound is over. The sonographers also have to prep the ultrasound machine, and read over the patient’s report and information to ensure they know the background of the patient before they come in. The sonographer will then go out to the waiting room to grab the patient, and bring them into the room, ask them certain questions about their medical conditions and ultrasound, and then they will give the patient instructions and preform the ultrasound. The first patient was a middle-aged woman, and she came into CDI to receive a pelvic ultrasound to look at her ovaries, kidneys, bladder, and other organs in this area. During this time, I got to see the patient’s ovaries and bladder within the ultrasound. The sonographer will be looking to make sure there isn’t anything unusual within the ultrasound, and make sure the systems are operating properly. We did
Sonography is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses the echoes of high-frequency sound waves to construct an image of internal organs or body structures. The employment rate is is expected to grow 26 percent from 2014 to 2024. Since ultrasound is non-invasive, it is more encouraged than other methods so the career is always in demand. Diagnostic medical sonographers duties are to prepare and maintain diagnostic imaging equipment, taking a patients medical history, answering questions about the procedure, operating the equipment, review images and test results, know the difference between normal and abnormal images, analyze diagnostic information, record findings, and keep track of patient records. Hospitals, offices of physicians, medical
Life is comprised of changes that takes place due to several reasons including life experiences, some person who has a direct/indirect effect on you or due to some life altering events. The passion and determination for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography originated due to all of these reasons that drastically altered my approach towards life and made me strong enough to achieve my goals while being positive and motivated.
An ultrasound is also referred to as a sonogram. It uses a high frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body.
Diagnostic medical sonography is a profession where sonographers direct high-frequency sound waves into a patient’s body through the use of specific equipment to diagnose or monitor a patient’s medical condition. As described by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this examination is referred to as an ultrasound, sonogram, or echocardiogram. The high-frequency sound waves emitted from the handheld device, called a transducer, bounce back creating an echo and therefore produce an image that can be viewed on the sonographers computer screen. This image provides the sonographer and physician with an internal image of the patient’s body that will be used in the diagnosis. The most familiar use of ultrasound is used in monitoring pregnancies
Sonography utilizes sound waves to generate an image that can be analyzed to determine or rule out a diagnosis. Ultrasound or ultrasonography is a medical imaging technique that uses high frequency sound waves. It is a high pitch frequency that cannot be heard by the human ear. A diagnostic medical sonographer works directly with patients in a dimly lit room with imaging machines. The sonographer gets the medical history of the patient and prepares the patient for an ultrasound examination. The sonographer explains the noninvasive procedure and answers any question the patient might have. The sonographer positions the patient and covers the patient only exposing the area needed for the procedure. The sonographer
My mother always reminded me how education is the most important tool which I can use to improve myself and my community. After obtaining my undergraduate degree in geography in the late nineties, I later moved to the United States a year later to peruse a master degree in computer sciences. After arriving in the US, I learned that life was not as easy as I thought. I could not afford the tuition, paying my bills and taking care of my family. I later dropped out of school to work some low paying jobs in order to save money to continue my education. After several years of contemplating what to study, I enrolled in a community college to continue my education in radiologic technology.
Abstract – Ultrasound imaging is one of the popular, cheapest and noninvasive medical scans. At the time of image acquisition, there may be distortion of the quality of image in the form of speckle noise. Nowadays, many researches have made various experiments to enhance the quality of medical image. However, there is scope to further enhance the image. In the proposed method, finding out the seed pixel randomly is the basic problem, which is treated as an optimization problem. It can be solved by Particle Swarm Optimization. Using Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm, the fitness function can give us appropriate seed pixel for required ultrasound imaging. In this paper, a novel method is proposed, wherein segmentation will be applied on a fuzzy filtered image. The fuzzy filter applies fuzzy rules to detect regions in the image viz. edge region, homogenous region, and noisy region by using different gradients, and later filters the noisy region using fuzzy membership rules. The proposed method has been tested on different ultrasound images, and the experimental results demonstrate its effectiveness.
