I am interested in joining the Medical Professions Academy, because I believe it would be a great experience. This program will give me the inside look of what being a doctor is like that high school would not provide for me. I have been interested in going into a medical profession for a few years and I think MPA will help me decide where I want to go with it. While I may go a different route I think MPA will give me something I can't find at my high school. I was really interested in the hands on learning portion and believe it will help me with my future occupation. I am excited for the opportunity to joint MPA next year.
I am applying to the MD/MPH program after experiencing four years of undergraduate coursework to receive a degree in public health. The coursework as an undergraduate greatly drew my interest to things such as epidemiology, microbiology, environmental health, and global health. I was introduced to the importance of population health and preventative care, as well as the social aspects of health and the disparities stratified across populations. I believe that the rigorous undergraduate coursework I completed exemplifies my competence in terms of public health and suitability as a candidate for an MPH. I also had opportunities to have real-world experience related to public health, more specifically I have worked as an infectious epidemiology
Every year, an estimate of 5.9 million people dies from disease (World Health Organization, 2016). Some of these diseases are caused by bacteria, parasites, virus, trauma, mutations, and environment. Although these diseases can cause death and injury, in many cases, they can be treated by a specialist called a physician. A physician is a person who is qualified to practice medicine. Often, these medical specialists need help in treating large numbers of patients in need of care. In the 1960s, the physician assistant (PA) profession was created.in 1965, there was a noticeable shortage of physicians. Eugene A. Stead Jr., MD, of the Duke University Medical Center assembled the first class to take on the role as physician assistants. These men received medical training in fast track manner to what a physician might learn (Academic Academy of Physician Assistants Organization, 2014).The duties of a physician assistant are similar to what a physician may carry out but differ in some ways. Today, the physician assistant profession is a growing field, but more difficult to achieve. Recently, there has been an increase in the amount of school time and pre requisites to be accepted into a physician assistant graduate program. Specialization of a particular field is even more difficult to achieve. In addition, work environments can be often challenging. However, high salaries and benefits of working in the medical field give reward to the employee.
Looking back at my years in school and my educational teachings, I see them as stepping stones that led me to where I’m today. From grade school to high school, we were slowly taught the knowledge necessary to later transfer into a college level classroom. Then once in college, our courses would act as stepping stones leading us to our chosen career path. For me personally, that will be the medical field. Specifically in Neonatal/Pediatric Nursing.
I come from a small rural town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. My hometown is split down the middle by a set of railroad tracks. On the north side, one can find pristine neighborhoods, newer schools, most doctors’ offices, and the only hospital in town. The south side of the town stands as a stark contrast. On the south side, you no longer find the wealthy neighborhoods but rather dilapidated and condemned homes and housing projects. One seems to find abandoned buildings on every corner, many inhabited by those that have lost their homes. Limited help is coming for those who need it, mostly through churches and volunteer programs targeting the underserved. Many doctors, dentists, and nurses are giving their time and resources to help
I am interested in pursuing the Physician Assistant (PA) certification because of both my familiarity as a professional in the medical field and as a patient. The PA profession offers me the opportunity to continue my lifelong passion of helping others, providing a team approach to patient-centered medicine, giving back to my community, and provides me with further opportunities to educate. My sophomore year I was recruited by the director of the local Red Cross to join a HIV/AIDS peer education program. After attending classes on evenings and weekends for a few months at the florescent lighted, wood paneled walled, Red Cross building our education was complete and our team’s presentation skills were developed enough to head to the community.
“Did you get in?” was the question that friends and school faculty jumped to ask me as I shuffled through my high school halls. I waited for an application update, but until then, I remained in the dark. I was equally excited as nervous to hear back from the school of my dreams. For the past two years, I marched around in UC Irvine school apparel, exclaiming my uttermost pride with the university’s iconic chant “Zot Zot Zot”. The days that lead up to the UC’s admissions released week weighed with anxiety.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Growing up, I have always acknowledged that the opportunity to help people will be the major significant part of my future career. My interest in healthcare began many years ago at the age of 18 when my favorite aunty, Christian Anyaele, was frequently hospitalized because of chronic illnesses. My penchant for health care delivery made me to consistently and effortlessly give her care and attention. Although she passed on in 2004, I was rather glad that I didn’t leave any stone unturned in trying to help her recover from those ailments.
It is important to become nationally credentialed medical assistant for many reasons. The main reason is reassurance in the field or career. You go to school and get recognized for what you have learned and been trained on. By this not only will the health practice or coworkers you work for will be able to trust you fully on your responsibility as a medical assistant, but the patients will also be able trust you with their health. It will also help you feel more comfortable on performing the duties without being supervised at all times. Without a doubt employability and pay will also can play an important role. When listing your certification on your resume they will be higher chances of getting called for an interview and the pay will be higher due to the education or training you will have.
For as long as I remembered, I have always dreamed of becoming a physician. I want to use the knowledge I have to ease the suffering of others and help cure them. I believe Yale is the perfect place for me to start realizing my dream. When I first learned about Yale School of Medicine, I was intrigued by the Yale System. I was drawn in by the respect Yale has for student initiative and its emphasis on providing guidance as opposed to promoting competition. I feel that fosters an environment where I would be encouraged to learn for the sake of gaining knowledge as opposed to achieving a specific rank. With the new curriculum in place starting in 2015, Yale introduces clinical experience to its students very early on. A key aspect of being a

I foresee myself practicing medicine in a large urban hospital or in a large practice with other physicians of my same specialty. Working in either of these two environments would allow me to collaborate with colleagues to provide innovative and state-of-the-art care for patients. I am committed to primary care because I have found purpose in translating my interest in the foundational science behind medical diagnoses and my interest in disease pathology into care for my patients. My interest in medical science also leaves me committed to research to further the collective knowledge of the medical community. As a medical practitioner I would like to spend the majority of my time providing primary care for patients and a minority of my time
When I started elementary school my parents said to me “Try your best”. They have continued to say this ever since only, in high school, it changed to “Aim high and try your best”. I did aim high and I did try my best. I took their advice, and it has paid off for me so far, and now I’m telling myself the same thing for college and my career. Academic success does not come easily to me. I have had to work long hard hours to keep my grades up. But I’m willing to do it, so I think my goal of a career in healthcare will take some effort, but it is within reach.
With a keen interest in science and a plan to pursue a career in medicine, I am naturally drawn to this course. Through Investigations in Bioscience and Biotechnology, I can dive deep into research and studies on evolving diseases and potential cures. The study of bioscience and biotechnology will give me the unique opportunity to immerse myself in the evolution of how we diagnose diseases and benefit patients. As technology becomes more advanced, medical professionals can analyze a patient’s genetics and help detect diseases early on. This information in turn helps patients leverage preventative medicine to support their health during the early stages, when treatment is the most effective. The intersection of bioscience and biotechnology has
Ever since I was a child, I have planned to follow in the footsteps of my parents, who devoted their lives to public health by running a long-term care institution and after being accepted to UC Berkeley, I knew that I wanted to pursue a degree that would allow me to help others in the future. Since the public health curriculum is applicable to a vast range of areas, I knew it was the right fit for me. My first true introduction to the public health field came from an introductory course taught by Dr. Sarah Gamble. I was captivated by the modern-day and international health issues that continue to change the world we live in. With this new perspective, I have a sincere appreciation for public health professionals who do everything in their
My mom was rush in the hospital because she collapsed on her first day of her job, when I was eight years old. Her doctor did not know how to help her but prescribed her some medication that she would take everyday. She was never her healthy self anymore because every now and then her pain would come back. There would be days, that she could not wake up from her bed. I was worry for her because if anything were to happen to her, I do not know what my sibling and I are doing to do. We only have her left. At that moment in time, I knew I want to be in the healthcare field because I want to be able to help her, if anything were to happen to her.
