The impact of social media on children is daunting, this is an issue that should be addressed immediately or the consequences may be irreversible. Children are no longer willing to play outside and make new friends; they have been relying on a buffer since social media has become more popular. The children of this current generation are no longer experiencing the steps essential for becoming a well-rounded and knowledgeable individual[s]. With the current usage of electronics, many of the children are not learning how to express themselves on an emotional level. The building blocks of sustaining a healthy lifestyle and healthy interactions are being pushed to the wayside. Some medical professionals are even trying to make the connection of social media and electronics to ADHD. Children who have been spending more time in front of screens have shown a decrease in the ability to focus on tasks that are more complex. This has made it harder for the kids to focus in school, and that can lead to failing grades that affect their schooling (Alderman, Lesley). Another serious condition affecting this current generation of children is the disease of obesity, children rely on electronics for mental and physical stimulation. This has become a nationwide epidemic that shows no evidence of slowing down.
