The author talks about his first day in kindergarten. His kindergarten teacher had to pry his fingers off his mother's ankle while taking him to his desk saying, "You'll get used to it.” He included the fact that he took a month-long class of French but is only able to understand half of what the teacher was saying. The evidence supports my claim because it will take time to learn a new language. The evidence shows that taking a month-long course is not enough to learn a new language. I agree with the author because I can relate to the article. I took two years of French class until I was able to understand to read and write in French. The evidence for this key point was subtle but I believe that the author met his goal with the evidence presented. Additional information should be included to further elaborate the key point.
The third key point is understanding the language. At the end of the article, the author was skeptical of ever learning French. When fall arrived, while in class the author was called out by the teacher and scolded. It was at that time when the author realized that he was able to understand what was being spoken in French. He then states, "understanding doesn't mean that you can suddenly speak the language. Far from it. It's a small step, nothing more, yet its rewards are intoxicating and deceptive."
