The customer appeared to be attentive and cooperative to the best of his knowledge during the process of interview. He has limited knowledge about the finances of the house however, indicated that he help with chores. He indicated an interest in attending college to obtain a degree that allows him to complete a program in performing arts. He graduated with a Standard High School diploma in June 2016 in De LaSalle Academy, Fort Myers and requested the assistance of the State of Florida Department of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to assist him with tuition, books and placement toward his goal. Some of the titles found on that cluster includes Art, Music and Drama Teachers and Product designer. According to the Florida Occupational Employment and Wages the amount of job openings in the area of Fort Myers are less than 80 reason why this occupations were not included. During the evaluation the customer paid attention to certain details such as spelling and organization of products by color, reason why if properly trained he may be able to perform as an Interior Designer. Candidate Pacheco’s brief was delivered confidently, with a slight exception during the Situation paragraph. During this paragraph, SNC took long pauses, and stumbled over his thoughts on the enemy situation. However, upon completion of the situation, he regained composure and bearing and completed the follow on paragraphs well providing elements necessary to execute the operation. As they stepped off on the operation, his speed was consistent with the situation and his non-verbal communication methods kept the team moving forward. Jordan Ficke is a brunette, young woman who has devoted most of her life to helping other people. While she has spent over a decade of her life helping people with developmental disabilities, she has also worked at schools and a rehabilitation center. S.A. and his family were facing imminent homelessness after his mom was diagnosed with a physical disability. Due to a lack of resources during that traumatic time period, S.A. missed many days of school, which caused him to be behind. He is now in 6th grade, but does not meet grade level requirements. He obtains a 4.5 grade level in math and reading, which could retain him from entering middle school. With his family’s involvement at ForKids, S.A. is required to partake in the Hot Meals & Homework Program. ForKids has also been able to provide services that would assist S.A. in coping with his learning disability. Through our educational program, our goal is to get S.A. to meet his grade level requirements.
The purpose of this paper is to define autism, define Medicaid, and the role that Medicaid plays in regards to coverage of necessary therapy treatments for autistic children in the state of Florida. The advantages and disadvantages of Medicaid will be discussed as well. This topic is of interest to me because I work with this population on a daily basis as an occupational therapy assistant. It is important to be aware of this program and how it affects the autistic population because 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism (Chen, Peñagarikano, Belgard, Swarup & Geschwind, 2015).
