The hospitality industry is an industry that heavily relies on the experience economy. It is essential for hotels and restaurants to gain a competitive advantage through differentiation to create and provide unique experiences for customers. After all, customers not only pay for products, they also pay for the services provided, embracing the experience economy. There are seven marketing strategies to achieve this goal, two of which are “Physical Evidence” and “Process”. This paper will be discussing these two strategies and how the hospitality industry uses them to create memorable experiences.
The first of the two strategies is “Physical Evidence”. “Customers tend to rely on physical cues to assist in evaluation of a product before buying it. These physical cues are provided by the physical evidence of the product. In the hotels and restaurants, the physical environment plays a huge role in physical evidence. The physical environment includes factors such as ambiance and spatial layout.” (Professional Academy) These factors are crucial in evoking emotions in customers. When ambiance and spacial layout are done right or tailored to suit the theme of the restaurant or hotel, customers would feel positively about their whole experience.
Ambiance is a critical part of any restaurant or hotel when it comes to selling the whole experience. “Ambiance can be diverse. For example, from a relaxing, soothing environment in a spa to loud music, a dark room with bright lights in a

When you’re watching the College Football Playoffs or March Madness, are you wondering if the players on the television should be considered slaves? It sounds like a ridiculous question, but there are some people out there who would say that is exactly what they are. In the past few years, the debate about whether or not student-athletes should be paid for the sports they play in college has grown insurmountable. This is an issue that sheds light on the fairness of college athletics and is important for not only student-athletes, but anyone who enjoys watching. I, personally, believe student-athletes should not be paid because they are already awarded generous compensation, there are far too many of them with no way to determine who should get paid what, and it would take away from the value of university academics.

Although we wont be dealing with a themed restaurant the same ideal can be applied to a run down and in need of renovation restaurant. In a customer’s head if they don’t like the ambiance of the place they may not have the same experience even though the quality of service would be the exact same. A customer’s mind and influence can fluctuate so much simply based on the ambiance. Without the customers even realizing it they may not have as pleasurable of a time with a non-renovation place versus a renovated place, this in turn hurts the restaurants amount of returning customers and even amount of tips a customer could
Depression often occurs in minority populations due to direct and/or perceived occurrences of racism. A study of Chicago minority adolescents found that a majority experience discrimination, but less than half of those instances were rated “somewhat” or “very disturbing” (Tobler et al., 2013, p. 347). Regardless of how adolescents rated discrimination experiences, Tobler et al. (2013) concluded that any direct or even perceived experience of racism contributed to mental health issues. Adolescents who experience racism also report higher rates of high risk behaviors including suicide ideation (Tobler et al., 2013). Kim (2014) also notes that “perceived discrimination” increases behavior problems

Since the 1950’s, the world’s economy has gone through several changes, from an agrarian economy to an industrial economy, then to a service-based economy and then to the experience economy. “The term ‘Experience Economy’ was first introduced by Joseph Pine and James Gilmore in 1999. The concept is that goods and services are no longer enough for consumers – that businesses must create memorable events and experiences that capture their audience and create experiences that transform their brand’s value proposition.” (Frias, 2014) Despite being introduced in 1999, the concept of the Experience Economy has already existed in some extablishments to gain a large and growing customer base. The Hospitality Industry is an example of this. “For example, on July 17th, 1955, the pioneer of the Experience Economy, as Pine calls him, Walt Disney
Payers: We propose marketing to move toward negotiations with payers where possible, but this is not a straightforward task. Chars data (2012) shows Medicare and Medicaid were payers for 79 percent of acute-care patient days in 2012 (not counting swing beds; but our data might be skewed if including nursing home residents). Because hospitals typically are not able to set the terms of CMS’ payments, we propose investigation into additional pilot projects (adding to what Lincoln Hospital has already initiated), including the Community-based Care Transitions Program. Data about the existing payer mix is publicly available (inexpensive, neutral), but doesn’t look at the total market (see next section).
