Marbury v. Madison: Why Everyone Should Pay Attention From an early age, my father taught me to stand up for what I believed in. He always told me to never back down from a fight. It was for that reason that he joined the revolutionary effort. He never agreed with the King of Great Britain and all of his abuses against us, the colonists. It was because of people like my father that this beautiful nation was built. It is also the reason why I get so angry to see injustices and misuses of power by those who lead our nation that represents freedom. How can we trust the leaders of this free nation when they are abusing their power? Fortunately for all of us, there is a way to curb the power of these “leaders” and the Supreme Court proved it with
“Keep working! When you finish this you can start on some other jobs! You will work to keep your lights on and whatever you have left will go to me!” This is how our lives could be if the words of Mr. Patrick Henry hadn’t been taken seriously. If we hadn’t fought for freedom, we would be treated as such and would not have the rights we do today. Patrick Henry gave a speech to the Second Virginia Convention in 1775 to persuade those listening that the right of freedom was innately theirs and they would fight till death to achieve this right. He argued his side relentlessly, the good and the bad. He emphasized the efforts that they have attempted themselves to resolve the situation.
After reading Chapter 3 of “High Price” by Dr. Carl Hart, I learned he lived with his mother and father until the as halfway thru the second grade. Then got a divorce and he stayed with his father for about two week, but once his father realized that he was unable to take care, he then went to live with his Big Mama. His great grandmother was a Bahamian woman. She came to the United States when she was a young adult. His big mama was a women who believed and stressed that going school and being self sufficient was important. She believed that a black men in this society had no chance if they weren’t educated. Dr. Carl Hart’s family based their family morals off of Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. DuBois, based on the beliefs of the his grandmother and great grandmother. His great grandmother followed role of W. E. B. DuBois, because she believed that education was important and this was a way for African Americans can advance. Although his great grandmother believed that education was important, she did not believe that it would not help someone of his race in a world where racism played a big part of being successful. Carl’s father would promise to pick him up on the weekends and would never show or even showed up drunk. Although his father was an alcoholic, Carl didn’t mind it he just wanted to be around him. Being the his great grandmother loved him dearly, his great grandmother loved him and always had his back. When Carl’s father didn’t play a the role of being a
"Give me liberty, or give me death." a speech given by Patrick Henry to convince the delegates to break away from Britain colonial rule. Britain was viewed as a threat. During the speeches, he complimented his opponents in order to gain their respect and trust. Since his audience respected and admire him, they were more willing to listen to whatever he had to say. If he didn’t speak his mind, nothing would had being done to fix this problems. Also, Henry had ways to make people agree with his ideas. Obviously, By laying out his hard truth and being very persuasive. We need more people like Patrick Henry in our government today fighting for our rights and less controlling government. He was a true speaker who strongly believed in liberty
Throughout the course of humanity, people’s opinions and beliefs have drifted the course of society throughout the ages. Our founding fathers embrace this idea when birthing a new nation. Standing up for what you believe is important because you can influence the populace, prevent opposition taking the upper hand, and provide improvements.
The court decision was that marbury sued james madison asking the supreme court to issue a writ requiring him to deliver the document that were necessary. To make marbury justice of the peace. It was decide on the establishment of the judicial review. I think the other reason behind marbury winning is that marbury planned this and he knew what was gonna happen.
From the onset of man fighting for freedom or his beliefs, the question has always been whether one person can make a difference using words rather than wars. Philosophically, the concept of civil disobedience would appear to be an ineffective weapon against political injustice; history however has proven it to repeatedly be one of the most powerful weapons of the common man. Martin Luther King Jr. looked at the way African Americans were treated in the United States and saw an inequality. By refusing to pay his taxes and subsequently being imprisoned for a night, Henry David Thoreau demonstrated his intolerance for the American
So called Patriots, I agree government is instituted for the sake of the people, but that every individual has a right to judge the acts of government as just and unjust and whether to abide its rule of law or not, I must vehemently disagree. Use your common sense and you must be convinced that this is counter to the very idea of government. By entering into a state of government, I willingly subject myself to its power over the society that I become a member. Where power is vested is unimportant, it must be somewhere or there is no government. I have no right to control the actions of other people except to address a wrong done or intended to be done. We have legal means of addressing these wrongs; this is also true in government. You say
Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter revolves around a Puritan community. Hester Prynne, Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth, through different, all committed sinful crimes. Dr. Khan argues that Dimmesdale died because of atropine poisoning, but Roger Chillingworth was not trying to kill Dimmesdale, the symptoms was Dr. Khan has stated could be refute, and the guilt that Dimmesdale has suffered, which has lead to his declining death, is what really caused his death. Roger Chillingworth does not want Dimmesdale to die. Chillingworth’s motive and intention has play a big role in Dimmesdale life.
Our country was built heavily on liberty. We take liberty for granted, but the founders of our country actually didn’t. They, as colonists of the British colonies, were not given the liberty we now have. They had no representation in their government, and sometimes unfair laws toward them were passed without their opinion. A well-known act of Parliament, the Townshend Acts, was an important law in colonial times, and it partly led to the revolution of the United States of America.
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter” Martin Luther King Jr. It is of the utmost importance that people stand up for what you believe is true to cause the change they want to see. Our country was based from the beginning on that belief. Now, everyone has forgotten about the significance of the 1st amendment. We can do it violently such as the birth of America or peacefully like Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr.
Fighting for freedom has been demonstrated throughout centuries. A common saying, “Fighting is never the answer,” describes that people believe nonviolence is the best solution for demanding independence. However, several people disagree and conclude that “It’s better to fight for something than live for nothing.” These words from George S. Patton explains that dying for a good cause by fighting is worth it than living without making a difference. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and Ahdaf Soueif explores the idea that freedom must be demanded through either peaceful or violent protest.
What would happen if you didn’t stand up for what you believed in? The world would be different from what it is now. People should be able to speak their minds; it could change, protect, or save something or someone. A brave man was able to make a difference, and this man’s name is Martin Luther King Jr.
Imagine what our world would be like if people did not choose to stand up for what they believed in. Many people viewed the government as a protector. Those that viewed differently chose to empower against the injustice and tyrannical acts of the government. These people practiced acts of civil disobedience and they are the ones you usually think of when someone asks you “Who is your hero?” People like Susan B. Anthony decided to believe what their minds were telling them and stood against what they felt was wrong. When individuals are able to stand up for what they believe in they fix laws that were not fair to all citizens and bring change for the better. It is important for people to take a stand on issues of justice in society.
If the United States of America is considered one of the most powerful countries in the world, how did that come to be? The United States has always had significant influence on other countries regarding technology, business practices, lifestyle, and more. However, American Imperialism is evidence of how much influence America has on other governments. Which is the notion of expanding America’s military, economic and cultural ideologies into other territories. American Imperialism started during the Spanish-American war in the late 1890’s. This was the start of America’s expansion and involvement in foreign affairs.
These are only two examples in American history of brave individuals coming together to fight a larger cause. The Civil Rights movement led by Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1950’s-60’s is a great example of the minority banding together to fight an injustice in the system. Even earlier in American history was the Revolutionary War, where only 3% of Americans actively fought against the British empire, and they won. In the end, these two instances of rebellion against all odds showcase how important it is for individuals to take matters into their own hands and do what they think is right. Sometimes it’s not always the most important choice, sometimes it’s not always the smartest choice, but it is always the best choice.
