In America, the popular belief is that people have complete control over their lives and make their own decisions. But yet, when laws are put into place requiring parents to give their children vaccinations, parents nationwide ignore the fact that they can no longer choose what they think is best for their children. Laws requiring vaccines causes parents to immunize their children with no choice in the matter. Instead of government laws mandating vaccinations for every child, parents should have the choice whether they want to immunize their children. Vaccinations should not be mandatory, as forced vaccines go against religious or personal beliefs, are potentially harmful to young children, and have biased rules and regulations.

However, vaccinations do not always ensure safety; rather, they can cause many dangerous health issues. As more vaccinations become mandatory, the potential side effects grow drastically. An article by Mary Holland analyzes the dangerous side-effects and limited regulations regarding vaccine injury, “Some children are permanently disabled or die from their vaccine exposures. A broad spectrum of suspected and confirmed adverse vaccine events has grown in the decades from the beginning of mass vaccination. In total, over 600,000 people in the United States have filed vaccine adverse event reports since 1990. Furthermore, people receive little warning of the risks of vaccination because of minimal information requirements under the Vaccine Act” (Holland 420). As time goes on, more dangerous events regarding vaccinations occur. Consequently, children can be disabled or killed from vaccination exposure. Additionally, no information regarding the dangers of vaccines reaches parents; therefore, they believe they are making the right choice by vaccinating their children. Doctors, drug companies, government agencies, and the Center for Disease Control tell parents that vaccinations protect children and keep them safe from dangerous diseases and without them their child could grow severely sick, or worse, die. In reality, the vaccinations themselves can severely harm and kill young children. Therefore, laws should not mandate vaccines, as this gives companies power to place fear on parents and put more money in their own
A person’s health can be one of the most important aspects in their life. When thinking about what can help one to remain healthy, vaccinations come to mind. Vaccinations, to many people, are a necessity to remain healthy. I know when I was younger I hated to get a shot, but when I think about it today I am glad my parents made me get them. My mother was a nurse, so she knew the importance of vaccinations. Unfortunately, in todays’ society some parents think vaccinations can be more harmful then helpful, therefore refusing to vaccinate their children. The articles “How Vaccines Protect Us All” by Harrison Wein and “Beliefs About Childhood Vaccinations is the United States: Political Ideology, False Consensus, and the Illusion of Uniqueness” by Mitchell Rabinowitz, Lauren Latella, Chadly Stern, and John Jost both talk about vaccinations as the main point. While both of the articles talk about the importance of vaccinations and how they should be required, the first article by Harrison Wein talks more about how vaccinations protect the community and the second article by Rabinowitz et al. talks about how parents have the control of their children’s vaccinations. However, both articles prove readers to believe vaccinations can help keep children safe and healthy.
Should vaccines be required in the United States for children to attend school? Vaccinations should be mandatory for all children of the United Sates who wish to attend school. Today American parents refuse to vaccinate their children due to a wide variety of unfounded fears. Firstly, adverse reactions to vaccines are extremely rare. Secondly, vaccines create immunity for the community and for future generations to come. Lastly, vaccines save children and their parents’ time and money. In conclusion, vaccinations are extremely critical to the control and eradication of deadly infectious
Conflicting reports about the safety of vaccinations is causing confusion and fear among parents. There has been tremendous hesitation in choosing whether or not to vaccinate children. The Federal Government has remedied this hesitation by creating a law. New legislation, effective at the start of the 2016 school year, requires parents to vaccinate their children in order to attend public or private schools. Parents that rely on school or day care systems to care for their child care while they work, are left without a choice. If these parents wanted to postponed or possibly not vaccinate, it is no longer of consequence, they are now obligated to take the leap. This law should be repealed until further research is done and more effective versions are created. Doctors need to understand why some children have adverse reactions and how to test for possible predispositions before vaccines become mandatory. Vaccinations should be an option for prevention, with parents in full awareness of the risks.
Daily we make decisions that impact our overall health and safety. We brush our teeth, we eat organic, go to the gym, wear our seat belts, and use sidewalks. Doesn’t it make sense that we’re also pro-vaccination? There are a multitude of benefits that come with immunizations. Vaccinating protects you, the people you care about, and future generations.
Huge outbreaks like polio, measles, and the chicken pox diseases that have killed millions of children and adults no longer occur due to breakthroughs with vaccines. Children start to be vaccinated by the age of two until they are an adult, preventing theses diseases and many other vaccine preventable diseases. There are some who choose not to vaccinate their children or themselves, risking the health of the public.Refusing to vaccinate can cause many problems and risk for a child or an adult they take the risk of getting sick and possibly getting another person sick.Vaccinations should be mandated to prevent children and adults from getting vaccine preventable diseases and sickness.
Parents these days have been deciding that their child shouldn't get their vaccinations, do to being expensive. Many kids around the U.S. haven't been vaccinated and started to get diseases, do to parents being afraid of vaccinations. Should children get mandatory vaccinations? I clearly say yes, do too all of these reasons.
Vaccinations are promoted to be the best thing since sliced bread. People today know them as a cure to help eliminate childhood diseases and protect us from possible pandemics. So hypothetically what is the major issue with vaccines? Vaccinations contain ingredients used by funeral directors to preserve bodies (Scheibner p. 255). Children in the United States receive more vaccines and antibiotics than any other children around the globe (O’ Shea p. 54).Also, reports have shown that American children are becoming more and more sick. Finally, vaccinations are a multibillion dollar per year business, making 33.8 billion in 2012 alone (“’Vaccines Market Will Reach 33.8 Billion dollars in 2012’ Visiongain Report Predict.”). Anything involving that much money should be looked at and examined skeptically because is it about receiving a paycheck or the patient’s health? Government has threatened to block admission to schools if the vaccinations are not complete. As well as, Pediatricians are now refusing to see children not fully vaccinated due to vaccination tracking. Parents are responsible for guiding and protecting their children to adulthood and parents should have the right to choose what vaccinations their children should get, at which point in their life or if they should get any.
Some people today think getting vaccinated is dangerous and choose not to do so. Some people also worry about getting autism when being vaccine, yes it could happen but it is a very small risk. When people decide not to get vaccinated they are taking a risk catching diseases that can be life threatening. People should be vaccinated in order to try to eliminate disease. People should be vaccinated to prevent disease from spreading, possibly extending one person’s life, and to protect from being infected. Even if people get vaccinated they can still become ill, but the illness may not be as bad compared to not being vaccinated. (Martinuk).
Helpless and unaware, a young girl had her life ripped away in an instance. Holly, a five year old received her second dose of the MMR vaccine; a school required vaccine for kindergarteners, a week after her fifth birthday. Prior, Holly received the MMR vaccine and others when she 16 months old and reacted to them for seven straight weeks after. Her pediatrician told Holly’s mother it was normal and to continue vaccinating. In addition, her mother claims she was given no information to recognize side effects. Resulting from her second dose of the mandatory MMR vaccine, the little one’s brain subjected to irreversible damage and her body went through convulsions. Doctors told Holly’s parents that Holly’s vegetative state could not be reversed. With only five years of life with their beloved daughter, Holly’s parents had to make the decision to take their daughter off life support (naturalblaze.com). It was confirmed Holly died from acute encephalitis caused by the MMR vaccine.
Throughout time diseases has caused millions of death. Because of technology today we are able to conduct research, study diseases and find cures. Research has opened a window in discovering vaccines, to possibility cure or remove a disease. However, there are many concerns when it comes to vaccinations; are they okay for the body and/or will vaccines cause our bodies harm? Or are vaccines okay to get, and do they work? State laws are pushing to make vaccines a requirement. Because of these laws being passed, many argue that they are being forced in getting their children vaccinated. People should be able to have the freedom to choose if they want their children to be vaccinated or not. However, others differ and feel as if vaccines are
The renowned Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin, once recalled a time when his four-year-old son perished untimely due to smallpox, “I long regretted bitterly, and still regret that I had not given it to him by inoculation…” Although vaccines now replace inoculation practices, Franklin’s repentance is a cautionary tale to those who believe there is an repressed hazard within vaccines and therefore, refuse them. Termed as “Anti-Vaxxers,” there lies a community that declines the preventative medicine for their families on account wariness of ingredients, danger, or risk of developing an adverse reaction caused by the vaccination. Sadly, Anti-Vaxxers often form excuses for avoiding vaccines, which the CDC or Center for Disease Control incessantly
The start of the vaccine was the year 1855 when the smallpox vaccines were mandatory for the school children. The state of Massachusetts passed the first U.S. law, mandating vaccination for the school children. This practice continues still today. Now in this modern age that the newborn baby receives 49 vaccines by the age of 6. Indeed, vaccines have saved a number of lives until today. This is one of the best action taken place for humanity. Moreover, the majority population doesn’t recognize in general that vaccines have toxins in them. For this reason, a certain population gets side effects through receiving vaccines. According to CDC data, there are about 30,000 cases of adverse reactions per year in 2015. The stories of those individuals injured by vaccines are incredibly moving. Accordingly, we need to take a look closer to this issue of our society.
People of all ages often get sick and suffer, but do they really have to? Doctors have the vaccines to prevent most diseases and sicknesses that are out there, such as the chicken pox, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis, and pertussis (whooping cough) (Vaccines and Preventable Diseases). Unfortunately, these diseases and others like them are now making a comeback thanks to parents who are against having their children vaccinated. Some people believe that vaccines can cause serious health problems as they get older, such as autism and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), but many other medicines can also cause health problems. People should be immunized because immunization protects them against sickness, reduces the spread of common illnesses,
Vaccines are one of the most effective and safest ways to protect children against numerous preventable diseases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that a child receives 69 doses of 16 different vaccines by their 18 birthday and says that timing is very important when it comes to vaccines. Opponents argue that vaccines are not effective and the ingredients are unsafe and may lead to an increased number of children with autism spectrum disorders. We strongly believe that vaccines save lives and we should continue to vaccinate our children.
“Opting out of vaccinations puts public health at risk and could lead to a resurgence of dangerous diseases” (USA Today 1). If parents decide to not vaccinate their children it may pose a risk to the public as well as their child. It is still debated that a parent should or should not have the right to decide whether their child is vaccinated. Parents should not have the decision to vaccinate their child or not because by not being vaccinated death is likely, the disease is easily transmitted to a child who is not of age to be vaccinated, and it is necessary to keep the public healthy.
