CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
For many years, engineers have transformed life and technology. Engineers are scientists, mathematicians, inventors, and project planners combined. An engineer takes information from various fields and applies that information to solve problems. Engineers invent solutions and products in every field, including disciplines like aerospace, software, biomedical, chemical, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. All engineers are given a similar basic education, but they also choose one of these specific disciplines to be trained in. As for chemical engineers, they are responsible for manufacturing chemicals and developing processes for doing so. Along with researching the issues, the chemical engineer must
Chemical Engineers design and operate equipment processes to change physical matter. They design and develop new machines to produce different chemical reactions. They make 45k-135k a year. Chemical engineers sometimes would work with different hazardous chemicals. Requires University level of education.
Wilfredo and Mrs. Rebecca Camarce, for the support they have given along with their patience; to my beloved teacher, Mrs. Felicitas P. Centeno, for the motivation and encouragement to strive for excellence; to my relatives, Ms. Lilibeth and Mr. Niño Joseph Lacson, for their contribution to this research project; and lastly, to the sites I’ve researched that helps my research work being completed.
I would like to send my appreciation and gratitude to David La Rooy, who has supported my journey in making this dissertation possible to do. I would like to give thanks to all the students who have participated in this dissertation.
According to the Occupation Outlook Handbook chemical engineers use chemistry, biology, physics and math to solve problems. They conduct research, develop new manufacturing processes and design new materials all while having the opportunity to specialize in numerous areas. This means that I would be able to utilize my interest for math and science in day to day life, and this career would match my personal interests.
Chemical engineers play a vital role in the lives of everyone. For instance, they transform raw materials into something useful, analyse our food and purify our water for safe consumptions, generate electricity from fossil fuels, make plastics and most importantly make something more efficient which will have less impact to the environment. Without their hard work, a sustainable development is hard to be achieved. In 2050, it is estimated that the world population will increase up to 9.6 billion people. Of course, we never wished to see our future generations’ life being threatened by the long haul unfriendly impacts created by us. Our acts determine the future. Therefore, I want to be one of those people who can change the
I would also like to thank the members of the thesis committee ………… for their encouragement, comments and their
Firstly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor Dr. John Elgy for his guidance, supervision and recommendation. I also would like to thank to the company staff for participating in the interview. The biggest thank you to K. Pochana Chongchaikit for helping proof read this dissertation. Last but not least, I would like to give my gratefulness to my parents and my sisters for their smile, big support and encouragement to me throughout the year.
The idea of seeing a project come to life is what provokes my desire to become an engineer. In the past, engineers have created the greatest historic innovations such as health technology. My passion for chemical engineering is seeing how the fundamental theories of Chemistry, Physics and Math can be applied to create an innovative industry. In very concrete ways, engineers
The study on engineers on hydro project construction site to reveal the level of job stress and level of organizational Justice Satisfaction found need of improvements to be recommended. On the basis of this study the employee are recommended to practice proper pay, promotion and reward system as to lower the stress due to job demand. Similarly it is recommended to improve on adequate equipment, staff and safety as resources to minimize the Job stress on engineers. The level of stress measured by self developed stress scale (21 items ) found mean value of (2.625) with reliability of (r > 0.7)The stress is at moderate level as per classification of American Institute of Stress (AIS) with mean value of (2.68) .So, more awareness is essential at hydropower projects. The overall Justice is found just at a level of mean value (3.235) just above neutral value of (3) neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, so recommended to improve by doing the justice to engineers employed. Intention to stay was found just below the neutral value so classified as intended to leave moderately. The correlation with intention to Stay was found for both stress scale negative with moderate significance which means higher stress will cause less intention to Stay. Stress was found associated with number of children of engineers while
Stress is something that everyone has to deal with. However, as unique as each person is, so is their response to stress. This case study, entitled: Exploring the Effect of Stress on Mood, Self-Esteem, and Daily Habits with Psychology Graduate Students, was performed due to the lack of quantitative data on the subject of the effects of stress on college students. The researchers stated their hypothesis in two parts. They are: “(1) daily habits, self-esteem, and mood will significantly correlate with stress and (2) daily habits, self-esteem, and mood are significant unique predictors of stress” (McKinzie, Altamura, Burgoon, & Bishop, 2006. pg. 441). The collection of quantitative data concerning the effects of stress could help produce outcomes that can limit or stop the stress more so than qualitative data due to the fact qualitative data would be opinions and therefore could not be applied to a larger group of people. “College students, regardless of year in school, often deal with pressures related to finding a job or a potential life partner” (Ross, Niebling, & Heckert, 1999. pg. 313).
Individuals take engineering as something distance to their lives due to rigorous courses to get through. As some would say that it is not worth it, other clever individuals have figured this out. To be a chemical engineer, an individual explores and takes on other sciences to create important products to better peoples lives. As Mark and Sherri Devaney stated, “…Chemical Engineers are charged primarily with finding ways to put science and engineering principles to work…” with their purpose being, “…to help corporations and organizations create useful, cost effective products that will benefit consumers…”.(pg. 43) As it was brought up earlier, to
Chemical Engineer: If Recommendation #3 is approved, the chemical engineer is a key stakeholder. The training, development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the program will be the engineer’s main responsibilities.
Foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my advisor Ms. Upekha Manamendra for the continuous support of create this report, for her patience, motivation, enthusiasm and immense knowledge. I could not have imagined having a better advisor and mentor for create my report.
After graduating from high school many youngsters have the option to directly enter the work force. The majority of individuals who have the opportunity, nevertheless, decide to go to college before finding a job. The reality is that, they face lots of college stress, and some college students usually claim restate in English. For me personally, there are many stresses in college, such as family’s financial, a each of time management, the stress of learning itself, and many more. In fact, college has many pressures and challenges.
Born in a family of engineers, the ambience inculcated in me an innate desire to be an engineer. I have always aspired to choose a career that would mean work that really simulates me and holds a natural appeal for me. Today as I stand at the threshold of new pathways of learning, I have without hesitation chosen to pursue my Masters in the field of Chemical Engineering, the field that extracts me the most and draws the best of my abilities.
