The universe is created for society to cherish all God’s creations; it could be anything to admiring nature to loving all animals. The expectations for the world are difficult to maintain, so unfortunately, society often leads to major destruction. There is unnecessary homicides, animal cruelty, toxic waste in the rivers and many more heart-wrenching actions that deteriorates the world. The tone is depicted through Jackson’s word choice and Jackson is using phrases to instruct us to accomplish a simple task. For instance, farther into the chorus, “If you wanna make the world a better place” (16), “take a look at yourself, and then make a change” (18) the lyrics shows that Jackson is trying to say that it starts with us to alter. Jackson’s lyrics is not challenging, but is suggesting that we should perform a humble task before we complete a challenging mission. Lastly, Jackson uses repetition in the song and it is used to encourage us to make a change in the world. Repetition is used in poetry for phrases to repeat and to voice the poet’s beliefs. Jackson is emphasizing with his repetition, by saying that we cannot count on anybody to make a difference; we have to swallow our pride and make the first move in enhancing the world. Phrases like “make that change” (88) and “man in the mirror” (91) is repeated constantly to have the memo embedded in our brains to start with ourselves before helping the
Nonfiction is a genre of writing in which the author reflects on actual events in history. Lucy Grealy writes about an intense part of her life in a memoir. A memoir is written by the person it is about, usually written on the topic of something the author did or witnessed. Throughout this book, the author gives off vivid imagery and themes in order to help us understand just how difficult her life was. For example, in chapter 12, “Mirrors” on pages 207 to 208, Lucy describes just how a man loving her could change her view on life. Imagery, diction and setting also help to bring Lucy’s memoir together. Although this section seems to be about Lucy finding love, it is actually about the search and acceptance of self-identity as we can see from
This song is concentrated on the social construction of reality, which talks about about how “Ideas about reality also change over time” (Newman, 53). We can see this expressed in lines 32-33 in the song : “It just ain't the same, old ways have changed/New days are strange, is the world insane…” (lines 32-33) The band states how the world’s views and attitudes have changed and how there is uncertainly for the future. The band is questioning the values that they once lived up to. “Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity/Whatever happened to the fairness in equality/ Instead of spreading love we're spreading animosity/ Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity…” (lines 71-74). They imply that individuals are swaying away from their values, as a result changing their reality.
We as individuals have a chance to make a difference in the world, we have a chance to be a voice for others who don’t, and we definitely have the power to make and be the change we want to see. Although we have the power to do so, sometimes it’s difficult, but it does not mean that we have to give up. An example of someone making a change is the author of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.” The author, Wallace Willis, is believed to have written the song to bring awareness to slavery in the past. The song was sung by many and grasped the attention of people and helped bring awareness to the topic of slavery. There are also authors now, in the present who write protest songs to bring awareness to problems and situations that are happening everywhere in the world, situations that are affecting us now. The song “FDT,” is a song written about the current president, Donald Trump, and talks about his decisions in office and other things. These people use their voice to make a stand, they want to change the world for the better. Although, the way they make their voice heard is by using strategies that will catch everyone’s attention.

The first line of the song, “I’m gonna make a change for once in my life” (Ballard and Garrett), helps set the stage for the entire song. The lyrics are very straight forward, speaking about a man seeing the world around him and how it needs to change. The only way to start to change, is to look at yourself and start within. “I'm starting with the man in the mirror… I’m asking him to change his ways… and no message could have been any clearer… if you want to make the world a better place… take a look at yourself, and then make a change” (Garrett and Ballard), is the chorus to the song that refers to a man knowing the world around him is suffering and by taking the first step will help change not only himself but can help contribute to his environment. This continuing theme of relying on others to get you what you want does not always lead you to a successful life. Although Jackson did get his grandmother's regalia, his lack of determination will leave him homeless for the rest of his life. Jackson is satisfied with his economic and housing status, but knows he could make more out it. He is sociable, well known, and respected throughout his community as his townspeople ironically see his potential, but he does not. Jackson's lack of motivation in What You Pawn I Will Redeem shows that devalues objects in life and does not appreciate the value of
As for this, he was known as the world's most influential singer and songwriter. “I'm really thrilled about this gong for Bob. He created the anthems, the love songs, and the anti-love songs that defined the post-1968 generation and still resonates today. The imagery reflects the poetry in Bob Dylan's work. In the first stanza, “Come gather ’round people/Wherever you roam/And admit that the waters/Around you have grown/And accept it that soon/You’ll be drenched to the bone/If your time to you is worth savin’/Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone/For the times they are a-changin’(Dylan 1-9). Line 1-2 , Dylan is calling to the people, lines 3-6, he is asking people to come together to see what's going on through the country; that if they don't realize that things need to change, the country in going to stay the same. In lines 7-9, he says that the people better stand up in what the county is going through, otherwise the worst is to come. By using imagery, Dylan reflects the overall theme of the song “The times they are a changin’”. Another literary device used in this song was repetition. In line 9, Dylan repeatedly said “For the times they are a-changin’’(Dylan 9). This is also found on line 18,27,36, and 45. Dylan repeated this to convey his message to his listeners that times are changing. ”Dylan and his associates seem to have understood what he was creating as an enactment of a mode of being that was not about him as a person but was the product of something that exceeded him, something searching for expression that

“Man in the Mirror” is about a man who believes that only by changing himself will he be able to change the world. The main focus of the song is a man’s struggle to improve himself morally after witnessing his inability to impact the lives of those in need. Michael Jackson has always been one to be proud of being African American and more likely to choose to be interviewed by African American reporters. He has several songs that discuss race, segregation, and discrimination that comes for people of color. There are two music videos that were produced to accompany the song, one filmed in Brazil, showing the poverty and the other is filmed in a prison setting. The prison version music video captures the essence of the lyrics, it starts off with the caption, “This

He uses a wide selection of various types of instruments to portray the different emotion the movement came with. One of his most legendary songs for the movement, released in 1964 was “A Change Is Gonna Come”. The song voices hardships that black men experienced in America during the 60’s.
