The importance of youth involvement in community affairs cannot be stressed enough. Teen activists are believers, they are people who want to change the world, people that care, they are amazing, and they are brave.Malala Yousafzai is courageous because she spoke out for her rights while Alana Rosie West is dedicated to destigmatizing mental health care and ending cruelty to animals.
People in the world are too comfortable in their own lives, so we are very lucky to have people who speak out for their rights. Malala was only 15 when she was shot in the head by the Taliban because she protested against them. Luckily, she survived and is an inspiration to everyone. Teen activism is youth engagement in community organizing for social change. “We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced” states Malala. Unlike many people she had the courage to speak out for what she thought was right. Malala is strong and a symbol of hope. Alana Rosie West studies, social work and human rights. Alana serves on a youth advisory board for the organization Headspace, which is a national youth mental-health foundation, and helps run campaigns and events. Alana states, “Keeping animals in captivity is wrong and heartbreaking and I am extremely passionate about spreading awareness of the mistreatment of these cetaceans. I was stoked when Blackfish came out as finally the world is beginning to see what I have seen for years”.
