Imagine having a life-threatening condition or illness such as leukemia or cystic fibrosis. Living each day struggling for your life. It's difficult to imagine it yourself, but that’s what millions of kids suffer every single year. Consequently, they lose the hope, joy, and strength they need to survive. Now imagine having one wish granted for you. Having the hope and joy you once lost given back to you and you have the strength to fight for your life. Well, that’s exactly what the Make-A-Wish Foundation did for Frank "Bopsy" Salazar and thousands of other kids.
Bopsy was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 5. With the support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Bopsy was able to fulfill all three of his wishes: to be a fireman, visit Disneyland and ride in a hot air balloon. Bopsy became a member of the Engine 9 crew and went to southern California with his family.

With that, Bopsy closes his eyes one last time. He passed away later that night. Because of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Bopsy was able to fulfill his dreams before his last breath. An opportunity not all kids get to experience. But with your help, we can make sure every kid with a life-threatening illness can fulfill their dreams before it's too late.
I had the pleasure of speaking to the development manager at Make-A-Wish Missouri Alisha Abbott. She said that meeting the families of the children they grant wishes for are life changing moments and she is still friends with many of the families today. She says that she loves bringing hope, joy, and strength for the future of these children. When asked to use one word to describe the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Alisha used the word 'inspiring.' Not just for the children, but for others who wish to help and make a difference in the lives of these
The story of Sam Ferris, an eleven year old boy who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is “a life threatening cancer that affects the nervous system (Make-A-Wish 2012).” Sam always has this passion for baseball and his wish was for a baseball field to be built in his backyard, which would allow him to play with his friends whenever he wanted. Make-A-Wish knew that this was his one true wish, so they asked help from volunteers and donors to make his wish come true. The University of Mississippi and Itawamba Community College’s ground crew decided that they would contribute to building the baseball field. Those in the community generously donated the materials needed to build the baseball field such as “fencing, backstop, sod, clay,

To persuade the members of my audience in becoming a Partner in Hope by donating/volunteering to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Growing up with a brother that has a mental disability, I’ve become very familiar with organizations that support children with disabilities. Make-A-Wish is a well-known nonprofit organization that grants terminally ill children their dream wish. If I could choose any person to room with it would be Tommy Austin. Tommy Austin is the co-founder of Make-A-Wish and a retired U.S. Customs agent. In the spring of 1980, Austin met a child named Chris Greicius who was dying of leukemia. Chris dreamed of becoming a police officer when he grew up. Austin was determined to not only grant this wish for Chris, but to also give him something to look forward to in life besides doctor visits. With the help of other officers, Austin was able to make Chris an honorary officer just days before he breathed his last breath. This story inspired many people to grant wishes for more children like Chris, thus creating the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Central Idea: Many charities are deserving of support, but St Jude is truly special. Everything they do for these children makes their lives and their family’s lives just a little bit easier.
The band Foster the People first started in Los Angeles, CA in 2009. Where singer Mark Foster formed the band after being a struggling musician and a commercial jingle writer. Foster knew Mark Pontius, the drummer, since film school where they were both talented musicians. Mark eventually left his old band Malbec to form a new band with Foster. After Foster had written a few songs, he realized that they had a singer and a drummer, but they needed a bassist. So Foster’s long time friend Cubbie Fink joined the band after losing his job as a television producer during the great recession. Together they formed the band Foster and the people, but people misunderstood and thought that it was Foster the People. Foster the people wrote their hit song
What would it be like to have a life-threatening disease, and not know if you’re going to make it? Then, you found out that you could have your biggest wish come true, because of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. That’s exactly what happens to thousands of kids each year.
Every year Mater Little Miracles (MLM) helps provide premature or seriously ill babies with a second chance. Donating can help these young children to grow and have a good life. hmm… Let’s say you end up having a child at one point and the child was born premature or with a birth defect. All the doctors say that your child wouldn’t live for more than two weeks. However, what if the Mater Little Miracle foundation helped save your child? Picture you child five years later, when you see your child on their first day of school and you remember that at the beginning they weren’t meant to survive… How grateful would you be? MLM work in so many different ways, let me tell
This means, for every dollar donated to this worthwhile cause, $ .76 of that dollar is directed to filling the dreams of a terminally ill child. As with any worthwhile charity, money is not the only driving force. Volunteers, sometime famous stars, contribute their time and talent to filling the wish of terminally ill children. For example, on January 25, 2011, Make-A-Wish teamed up with the NFL to provide 13 children, from Belgium and 10 U.S. states their lifelong dream of seeing the Super Bowl. Each recipient, and their families, were provided a jam packed weekend that included time at the Dallas World Aquarium, Cowboys Stadium and finally seeing Super Bowl 45 live and in person. Yet dreams like this take more than just money, they take the time and commitment of many people focusing on the same cause. As a matter of fact one volunteer, Cindy Sampson knows all about what Make-A-Wish families face, because she has been there before. In 2006 Make-A-Wish granted a wish for her daughter Lois who suffered from a rare chromosome disorder. Cindy said that having her daughters wish granted was a powerful experience and since then she has happily volunteered her time at the Central and Northern Florida chapter helping to bring other wishes to families in need. This generous foundation makes it possible for parents to relax, if only for a moment, and see their child experience pure joy and happiness. The “ripple effect” of wish granting is

Businesses are usually known to give back to the community in order to receive something in return, such as positive public relations, good connections and great employee experience. In the case of the Zoe Loren Make a Difference Foundation, this is not the case. The foundation is about continuing the acts of kindness that their daughter did, during her short, but meaningful time she spent with her parents as well as changing the lives of everyone she came across. It's about keeping her memory alive, celebrating her life and the things she was passionate about. Because of Loren, many dreams have become a reality, thus making a difference in the lives of many. I applaud her family for the remarkable job they have done so far and continue to
The importance of the Make a Wish Foundation is that It grants wishes for kids from 3 -17 years old in order to help them feel good for the last years of their life. It's for kids who have a life threatening disease and don't have that much time left alive. This foundation is to give a chance to these kids to go explore whatever they want. What happens is that each kid has one wish to go do anything or go do something they want to do.There are four steps to granting a wish. Each step builds on the next to create amazing experiences that delight wish kids and their families. A wish experience is frequently a source of inspiration for children undergoing difficult medical treatments. It is important to have a Make A Wish Foundation around the world to help these kids explore so they can feel happy about themselves. Make a wish allows kids to grant one wish and it can be whatever they want.
Made of tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters of Make-A-Wish Michigan (michigan.wish.org) has one mission and that is to grant a wish to every child diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. Make-A-Wish Michigan grants about one wish per day for a terminally sick child. We believe the experience is a game-changer and our guiding principle. It inspires us to grant wishes that alter the lives of kids in our Michigan communities (Make-A-Wish Michigan, 2016). The organization solicits the support and commitment of premium people to accomplish the vision which guides their actions. They work with celebrities, politicians, business
An article from wish.com reads how Alexander now 21 reflects on his wish, and how it has impacted his life for the better. Alexander was 9 at the time of his wish and had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, wish.org states that his wish was to go bug hunting and "Alexander’s trip also includes operating the Panama Canal gates, holding an iguana, having a newly discovered species of sweet bee named after him (called the Augochlora Alexanderi), seeing new plants and animals and much more.” (M-A-W, web). Now Alexander looks back at that wish and see’s how much it has impacted his life, now 21, and now studies environmental science at the University of Washington. If that was you in his situation today wouldn’t you feel amazing about how good your life turned out after how bad it was when you were little. Now imagine how much different this child's life would have been if he would have never gotten his
Last years recipient Emily, who was diagnosed with a muscle cancer when she was about 2 and a half years old, strutted down the runway after she got her wish. Her wish was to have a camper so she can spend more time with her family
