Reflection 2: Majors Reflection and Planning
Choosing a major in college is very difficult. The 5 ways article really have good advices on what to do to choose decide for a major. I started thinking of my major since middle school. I decided I want to be a business man in high school. The 5 ways article shows say that we should wait until college to choose a major. I think this is true because once you in college, you know more information and first hand on the major you want to take. I found the second way very important because if we wait too long to choose our major, we might end up wasting our time and in college wasting time means wasting money. Other important ways is to be curious and have passion. Right now I am not curious to try other majors than business but I think it is a bad idea since curiosity won’t kill me. I don’t have passion for any major that why I choose business because I know it has money.
In the future, I want to be an international business man, means I will be travelling from country to country making business with companies or own my own small company. From AAP, I am planning to take some fall classes to well establish what I want to do in college. I am planning to learn more about business school for undergraduates here at UMD so I can be familiar with the place and the people. Apply early for the school of Business so I don’t miss a spot. I am planning to talk to some business students who have been in my position and learn the path they took so I can shape my path well. Graduating from undergraduate to take M.B.A will be the most important step because I will need a graduate degree in order to get a good
In chapter two of, How to Succeed by Jon B. Gould goes over the important aspects that students face while choosing a major in college. Gould starts off with some awesome introduction paragraphs that majority of college students face when signing up for classes for the first time. Some of these topics of discussions involved, deciding which subject to major in, to pick a subject that appeals to you, what to do if you have not a clue what to major in, and when the students should choose their majors. Gould, then discusses what it means for students to have alternative majors, double majors, and minors. Gould sums it up as some students have multiple interests, and many colleges offer the option to major in multiple subjects.
In When We Fight, We Win by Greg Jobin-Leeds it says that “comparison can block compassion both for others and for ourselves.” I agree with such statement; I think that listening is a skill you learn throughout time. One can pretend to listen without really getting anything out of the conversation that one is having with that other person. In the Compassionate Listening workshop, I got to do it with Rachel Kurland and I sit and listened to her talking about the moment her friend treason her. I tried to understand her plight, why would she not cut that friendship off, I understood she loved her friend, however, I could not resist bringing my biases to our conversation. I asked myself, why is Rachel, such a good, loving, and smart person,
On January 26, I had the opportunity to attend The Major Fair, an event in which the academic departments of FSU showcased their programs and gave information about various majors. Originally, I believed that I would not benefit from attending this event, but my perspective has changed. Although attending this event was mandatory for all students who enrolled in Freshman Seminar 2, The Major Fair allowed me to gain insight into the many majors and minors offered at this university. By the time I left the event, I received information that related to my intended major, which is chemistry, and the other programs that I found interesting and beneficial, which are the honors program and the 3+2 dual program.
When you focus on a career major, you have to have a reasonable picture of what you are getting into. You have to get correct data and assess it. Numerous components go into picking a school or college major including parental or peer influence,
Up until recently, I was like many of my peers, uncertain about what the future would hold for me. I did not know where exactly I wanted to attend school, what I wanted to study, or what I wanted to do career-wise. But, after taking high school classes like Business Information Management, Human Resources, Banking and Financial Services, and Accounting I, I found my long awaited answer, a fascination in the business and financial world. I loved attending these classes and learning new and exciting
My goal is to become a CEO of a large corporate firm involving pharmaceuticals or insurance. In order to make that goal come alive, I will be attending St. John Fisher College and take the classes I need to be successful in those fields so I can receive a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Marketing. By declaring the Business Management and Marketing majors, I will learn the specialized skills I need in order to sell my personal business image, which is important because it will benefit in the long run allowing me to achieve my future career goals.
Selecting a college major is an important decision, and it is not one that should be made lightly. It is important to remember, however, that declaring a major is not an irreversible decision. It is not uncommon for college students to change majors one or more times after they enroll in college. Sometimes, you need time, research, and reflection before you can choose a college major. Setting college goals can help you, as can understanding different college majors and how they can move you closer to your goals. Do your research, keep an open mind, and be honest with yourself, and you can choose a college major that
One of the many issues I faced as a collage student was choosing the correct major. I did not know what I wanted to accomplish after collage once I entered the work force. I had always seen myself in business somewhere but I never had a revelation on which major was the best for me. I realized that I needed some direction to my life and that I couldn’t get through collage without choosing a career path to take.
Reflection is a major factor in "developing self-awareness" to improve services provided to everyone around me, this is to develop my own understanding in realising the good and bad made previously. Moving forward with a better understanding, as well as rectifying the mistake whilst recognizing the good points, (Horton-Deutsch and Sherwood, 2008).
I hope to strive as an independent woman that is successful in the business world. Through the Associate Student Body, I have sparked an interest in being a leader and making decisions. In business, I will continue to practice the qualities that I have adapted. Additionally, because I have had the experience of leadership, taking it into the real world will not be as difficult for me than it could be for others. College will help me further develop these skills onto a higher scale. I will be able to work alongside peers that strive the same goals as I and motivate me to be better. In college I’ll be diligent, earning good grades, and participate in on and off campus activities in order to network and build of bases of connections in order to
I want to share with you about a process that can be helpful in determining a major. The process includes determining possible college majors of interest, collecting data
Choosing a major can be very stressful, and demanding definitely coming straight out of high school. Money, the classes, and the aspirations of the student all play a factor in which major is chosen. Business is the most popular major chosen by students, and History being the least popular Stockwell (2014). With Business, also being the most pay at $70,700 and History being at $65,500 it’s easy to see why most students would chose Business as their college major. College is going to be difficult to some, and to others it is going to be a walk in the park. Some students have struggled in high school, and know that college is the only way to get a substantial job, so they google the easiest major in college. Not following their dreams, but just not wanting to fail out of college. A major shouldn’t be chosen on how much money it will make, or how the classes are going to be. It’s determined by what you strive to be, and what you want to do in life.
This semester I learned a lot about writing in English 151. It has been a roller coaster ride with these essays for me this semester. I learned step by step how to write a good essay and how to have your readers be engaged in what you’re trying to tell them. Each essay I did has taught me something valuable I can take to the next level of English. I feel as if as the semester went by I did not take my writing that seriously and that reflected in my grades I received in each essay. It made me a better student and writer and it will reflect next semester. In this essay, I will reflect on what I learned throughout this semester that you should apply in your writing when you begin English 151.
Business Administration The idea of studying business administration has appealed to me greatly and has encouraged me to further develop my education following this path. I have a keen enthusiasm to pursue a degree in Business Administration as I enjoy the challenges it sets and find the many different areas of business you are able to branch out into, very exciting! From research about the subject I'm expecting to greatly further my learning of how businesses operate and be able to then put my knowledge into practice. I am confident within myself and find communication with others easy.
At UF I am majoring in Business Administration and I plan on specializing in International Studies. Additionally, I plan on applying for the Masters in International Business Program and spending a semester interning abroad. I am interested in a career working for an international organization or company. At first I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted for my future, but I soon learned how I could incorporate my love for traveling and experiencing other cultures with my interest in business administration and marketing. My interest for a career in the business field was greatly influenced by my father, who is a businessman himself.
