These events that led to the civil war in Sierra Leone destroyed its economic, political, and social system. The economics have been driven down since independence as seen before, from smugglers, to crooked political leaders destroying the economic system into pieces. The collapse of the economic system can trace back to many things. The political system has played a big part in it. The corrupt leaders as seen before in history like Stevens, and Mohob. In the book “Along Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah he experiences the messed up politics. He had first heard about it in the news about neighboring wars. Those wars were in Liberia. He had first hand experience, as he had fought for the government side which is no better than the rebels known as RUF. Ishmael roughly experiences this as he says

Looking past church’s names and denominations, that usually separate churchgoers on any given Sunday, everyone was on one accord, as all hearts and minds were focused on the one thing each had in common---their love for God and his children.

While I was volunteering at a local emergency shelter with a friend, a team of gospel singers visited the shelter, hoping to enliven spirits through song. Being worship leaders at our own church, my friend and I anxiously, yet excitedly, joined them. Before singing, we all agreed on a list of simple, but powerful, Christian songs that everyone would be able to sing along to. But I think God gives us that time to see the people we love, who are suffering, happy and more like themselves so we can say our goodbyes. He gives us those last memories of them as happy ones. When I first heard of and saw the poster of the play “The Will”, a Denison Independent Theater Association production that was performed at the Ace Morgan Theatre on September 25 - 26, 2015, I was wondering if this would be a comedy that was performed solely for the purpose of entertainment. However, I changed my mind after seeing the play written by Matthew Harmon. It was a great play with satire, irony, sarcasm and farce; and a great production team directed by Jeremy Hollis.

Before Ms. Taylor died, she was battling cancer, high blood pressure, and a diabetes which caused her husband’s life to be taken by stress. When I was taking care of her, she had only two children, both girls, and one grandson. I did not get the pleasure to meet her husband because he passed 10 years before had gotten sick. I knew she was depressed about her husband’s death, in which she almost gave up on living, but once I came along, I was able to give her that spark that she needed so desperately to keep living. Her daughters had lives of their own. One was a successful teacher, and the other was an executive manager of a company in North Dakota. The only grandson, who she felt had so many options in life, did not know which academic career path to follow

Owen’s mother had a major influence on how Mrs. Owens’ life turned out. Mrs. Owens’ mother began her daughter's community service for the first time while Mrs. Owens was in the second grade. They had an elderly neighbor who was physically impaired which forced her to be confined to a wheelchair. Mrs. Owens recalls many days when her mother would tell her “everyday when I come home, I had to ask Mrs. Wilkerson did she need my assistance with anything.” It was then when Mrs. Owens realized that she did not think of helping others as a punishment or a chore, but as something that she truly enjoyed. Her strength and grit has always inspired me. As a child, I experience the impact and influence of my church throughout my childhood. My mother served many positions in her church regardless if she was acknowledged for her tireless efforts in her church, and I cannot recall her complaining or threaten to take her talents to another church. In my community it was an honor and had many expectations and challenges to bestowed as the President of the Usher Board. One simple mistake that required your removal of this position could bring shame to the family and friends. On Sundays when some of the ushers would not show up to usher my mother would fill in. She sang in the church chorus and on most occasions she was the lead singer. She served as a pastoral aid at church, prayed for others, and visited the sick people in the community. She implemented the meals on wheel concepts became it became mainstream and popular. I recalled neighbors would drop off items and she would make wonderful meals for people in need of food. As I reflected of my mother’s giving sprint; she was a great and humble servant for individuals in our community and surrounding area. Living in a world full of arguments and conflicts, someone easily gets himself into troubles. How I deal with everyday arguments is crucial for me to accomplish my goals and have stability in my life. Decision-making process takes a good portion of my time and I will not regret this ever. I do not claim that all my decisions ended being the best choice, but I am always happy with my fate.

The service begins, and my mind can’t help but wander towards the kid. He didn’t die; he ran out of ammo. 77 bullets for the church and none for himself. The police found him at a traffic stop in North Carolina. He will be charged with 9 counts of murder, but somehow, those seem like empty words. Compared to the monumental lives that were ripped apart, the things of this world are nothing.

On November 7th, 2015, I went to a concert of my favorite singer. His name is Sufjan Stevens, and I have been listening to him for many years. I had the chance to see him live in Orlando at the Dr. Philips performing art center. He was performing his new album in, which was very important to him because it was about his mother. His mother had liver cancer, after some time she was not able to walk and had to live in the hospital. Sadly, she never made it through, but Sufjan was able to say his final goodbyes and eventually made a whole album dedicated to her and his troubled childhood. Watching his performance ultimately, made me feel his pain and give empathy for everyone who had to go through someone’s death.

To know that a father may never see his son again, impacted me greatly. I was thankful  that my family is safe and not in danger. Thankful that my family has never felt a bullet in their flesh.
