In Niccolo Machiavelli’s book The Prince, Machiavelli portrays many qualities that a leader should have. Machiavelli also describes how a leader should work. Adolf Hitler portrays all of the qualities of what Machiavelli believed a leader should have. Adolf Hitler proves that Machiavelli’s advice to leaders is still relevant today. Adolf Hitler followed Machiavelli’s words, “I’m not interested in preserving status quo; I want to overthrow it” . Hitler started to become loved when he started to make speeches in beer halls. Hitler began to become feared when he finally gained power in 1933. As he gained power and instilled fear into people, he started to gain his nation’s respect. Following the nazi party being declared the only legal party in Germany, Hitler started killing and would not stop. Hitler had control of the press, therefore he started spreading lies about how the Jewish people had caused all of Germany’s problems. Hitler kept on telling the German people this lie and the German people started to actually believe that the Jewish people were their enemies. Since the German people believed this enormous lie, they found it alright that Hitler was trying to completely get rid of the Jewish race. As Hitler started to take over countries, his cruel side came out. When Hitler raided a city, he would put the people in concentration camps. Machiavelli wrote The Prince in 16th-century. His methods of acquiring and maintaining rule over people are not relevant in today’s modern American society. There are many principles that are still true in politics today, but the methods of ruling can no longer be used in American society today.
Hitler started off as failed artist who wasn’t amounting to much in his life until he was made chancellor and used the Nazi party to build a racist state in Germany. Hitler started by promising people basic necessities to gain support. Then the power started to rush to his head when Nazi’s started to belittle non-Aryans and made stereotyping part of the curriculum for school children. He made Jewish people wear the star of David on their arms and if they owned a business, they had to put signs in their windows saying that they were Jewish. The Nazi party used Jewish people as a major scapegoat for their economic issues like the Great Depression and World War Two. It even got to a point where Hitler passed laws striping Jews of their basic rights.

Although it was written nearly 500 years ago, it has influenced countless rulers over time.
