A Historical Analysis of Macbeth
The Shakespeare tragedy of Macbeth depicts the story of an ambitious man, Macbeth. He is an honorable noble of Scotland, but, throughout the play, his ethical character turns corrupt. Macbeth takes a turn for the worst when he encounters three witches. The witches tell Macbeth his prophecy and assert that he will become king of Scotland. Ultimately, this prophecy will trigger Macbeth’s inner ambition and lead to his downfall. The play was written around 1606 during the Jacobean Era, which played a major contribution in the writing of Macbeth. The ultimate symbol displaying national pride is the American flag. The American flag represents freedom, for that reason American citizens worship it. The flag is present in countless places throughout the country and are accompanied by the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. There are seldom events that do not begin with the playing of the national anthem or the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. In the 1606 England, many people had the same ethic as Americans do, hard work. Today in America, advertising seems to capitalize on this. Whether it is for a new product or a presidential candidate, they try to appeal to a typical "hard-working" American. While they may share that sense of pride, it is ultimately for their own advantage. For example, if a speaker or writer is telling people to vote for a certain candidate, they may try to relate to the audience's national pride by saying it is their civic duty to vote. Shakespeare also had the idea of hard work imbedded in him, so he presented his national pride similarly through his plays.
