I will be writing about Wesley Snipes who is an American actor. Mr. Snipes took the advice of his accountant not to file tax returns, or pay taxes on his income. The IRS tried to get him convicted on several felony tax fraud charges. They were reduced to misdemeanors that carried a mandatory 3-year jail sentence. He went to jail in December of 2010 at McKean Federal Correctional Institution. Mr. Snipes finished his time at a minimum security prison and was released early in April 2013. I do feel that he was treated the same as any other offender. He did not pay his taxes for 10 years, and the IRS went after him as they would anyone who didn’t pay their taxes. The IRS does not mess around, if you owe them, they will come after you and

In 1966, the English rock band that consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr (the Fab Four), released a song called “Taxman” on their album Revolver. George Harrison wrote this song after he “discovered how much of The Beatles earnings went straight to the Treasury” (Taxman | The Beatles Bible) and “in anger at finding out what the taxman did” (“Taxman.” Wikipedia.). In the song, it states “let me tell you how it will be, there 's one for you, nineteen for me” (Revolution). George shared the meaning of that line. He said, “In those days we paid 19 shillings and sixpence [96p] out of every pound” (Taxman | The Beatles Bible). “Taxman” is remember by The Beatles fans as “the first song in which John, Paul, George and Ringo have expressed their discontent towards the governmental measures and have made a political statement” (The Beatles – “Taxman”).
Before taking this course I had a Dionysian type of thinking. I tended to act on emotion wanting to believe that people in general would not lie to me. That is why I could never be a cop. I also was a firm believer in Jean-Paul Sartre’s idea of existentialism. Existentialism is the idea of, “life is what we make it.” Sartre believed, “life is not what happens, but what we do.”(Detrick) I have lost friends because of this theory. I can only take so much complaining before I finally ask them, “so what are you going to do about the situation?” When they look at me confused I follow up with, “you are the only one who can change your situation.” In my twenty eight years of life I have found people do not like that question or statement. Many do not want to be held accountable for the situation they have put themselves in especially when they continue to stay there. I want to believe everyone has good intension and will not lie, but I do not have sympathy for individuals who complain about situations they choose to put themselves in.
