“This morning, September 4th, 2015, Lucas Brayden Smith was found dead in his office of his very successful business, The Black,” read the local newspaper header. Katie Ann Smith dropped to the floor when she heard this, considering this man was her husband.
It all started 5 years ago when Katie and Lucas Smith got married. The night of the wedding, Lucas received great news from his father,Thomas Adam Smith, Lucas was going to receive the family business because his dad was too old to keep up with it. The investigators got right to work. They started by getting to know about Lucas’s history: he was a very wealthy man with a multi-million dollar business, he had a wife and two kids, and he had never done anything bad before. The sleuths got the feeling that the murder had to do with the business since that was Lucas’s most prized possession. They started to investigate the different suspects, and the first one was Katie Smith. Next, the sleuths called Katie in and started asking her many questions. They started with “Where were you the night of the murder?” Katie looked to the left and then to the right and answered “I was at my friend, Alyssa Lynn Bunches’ house.” The investigators had no reason not to believe her except for the fact that they found out that she lives on the other side of the country. Then the 2nd investigator pulled out a picture it was of the gun used to kill Lucas. John gasped.
“Does this look familiar at all?”

“We need you to take us to your house right away, and show us your copy of the gun.”
They all got into John's car and raced over to his house, went down to a safe in the basement, which had a layer of dust on it and had clearly not been opened in a long time. John put in the combination and gave the investigators a gun identical to the one used to kill Lucas.
“Now take us to your sister in law's house,” said the sleuths.
When they arrived, Katie opened the door immediately. They showed her the same picture of the gun they showed to John and asked the same question. Katie had no problem going to the safe in the closet leading off the master bedroom where the gun was always kept. They got to the safe, and the gun was lying on the floor right in front of the safe.
“Why isn’t the gun in the safe?” asked one of the investigators.
“I have no clue!” exclaimed Katie, “I haven’t been in here since the
After the ballistics team had come to the conclusion that the gun was probably shot from four blocks away, Detective Healey and Doug Boyle start to go on an investigation. They had went door-to-door to question others to see if they knew anything about Charlie Ward’s death. When the police stopped at Michael’s house, they had asked the McKenzie family if they owned any firearms. Michael’s dad responded with a yes and was asked if he can show them. Michael then responded that he did not currently have his Winchester and said that his friend, Joe, borrowed it. A few days later, Doug Boyle and Detective Healey came back to Michael’s house with metal detectors to search the backyard for any evidence. While searching, Doug Boyle finds an empty casing

But soon we found the weapon in the hall. It was a bloody rope.
“The gun is too old, it’s going to misfire,” mused Stanley as he fingered the trigger of his pistol. It was a small and weak gun that had been in his possession for many years. “I’m too nervous, I won’t be able to pull the trigger, let alone aim this thing,” he thought to himself in horror, his apprehension wreaking havoc on his nerves.
