People who live in the long-term care (LTC) facilities fall more frequently, more than any other environment. Falls in LTC have been on going huge problem for more than a decade now. According to Center of Disease Control (CDC, 2009) each year, a typical nursing home with 100 beds reports 100 to 200 falls. Many fall go unreported. Between half and three-quarters of nursing home residents fall each year. That’s twice the rate of falls among older adults living in the community.
Fall in LTC is very serious because most of these patients they fall multiple times in a one year calendar. This falls end up causing permanent injury, disability and death. According to CDC about 1800 people living in the nursing home die from falls each year and about …show more content…

I do believe that most of us, do know that most of people living in the LTC are 65 years old and above .Most of these people have muscle weakness, impaired vision, decrease mobility and have some kind of memory impaired problems. But is the above reasons enough for elder peoples in the LTC continue to fall and sustain permanent injures and losing their life due to falls? What are the system doing to stop or to reduce these falls? Where are our interventions?
Main factors why people in LTC experience a lot of falls includes muscle weakness ,balance problems, medication side effects, loss of sensation and vision ,memory loss and environmental factors.
What kind of interventions are currently available to prevent falls or injury? Most of LTC facility they fall risk assessment for every new admission and all patients post fall. Other intervention includes patient and staff education, medication review, exercises program and sometimes they uses bed and chair alarm if necessary. According Willy & Osterberg (2014) any fall interventions that are used must be matched to each individual’s risk factors and initiated before the fall occurs.my biggest question is ,are these interventions being effective ?if the answer is yes ,are the number of falls
