If you knew how the presidential candidates felt about issues that affect you, would it change the way you vote? All of the presidential candidates have different opinions on issues, and the way they address the issues that are important to you, change the way you feel about them. Some issues that would change my vote are; limited work hours, lowered college tuition, and increased cancer research. I think work hours should be limited for health precautions and family needs. Lowering college tuition would benefit millions of students by starting their lives debt free. As a country, more cancer research is needed to find new treatments and cures that can save the lives of our citizens. I believe the democratic candidates support my opinions and …show more content…
Lowering college tuition will benefit both the students and the college, and students won’t have to worry about student loan debts after graduating. By lowering college tuition, more students will be able to attend, which means the college will make even more money (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-carlos-campo/reduce-college-tuition_b_1913576.html). On average, a normal college graduate has almost $30,000 of student loan debt, which hinders their ability to afford a decent house and start their lives (http://www.collegescholarships.org/loans/average-debt.htm). By lowering college tuition, students’ lives will become easier and more people will have the ability to go to college. Many interest groups support the lowering of college tuition. The U.S. PIRG (Public Interest Research Group) is one of the largest interest groups to support the lowering of college tuition. The national interest group U.S. PIRG is a non-profit organization that works to inform citizens about issues and give their opinions and facts. Researchers discuss and research issues and then update the website to inform people. The lowering of college tuition benefits everyone and is necessary to the U.S. …show more content…
Even though the workers know tobacco is harmful, it is how they make a living. Workers make tobacco to make money and do not want it banned. Tobacco companies make tobacco, put it in products, and sell it. If tobacco is banned, the companies will not have a product to sell and will go bankrupt. The banning of tobacco products is unacceptable for tobacco companies. Most of the candidates support the increase of cancer research and the banning of tobacco. Martin O’Malley, a democrat, yearns to invest in cancer research. He wants to invest more money into cancer research to find new breakthroughs and cures. Carly Fiorina, a republican, longs to give back with cancer research. Carly overcame breast cancer and wants to give back to everyone by giving more money to cancer research. She believes everyone should be given a chance for treatments. To these candidates, cancer research and the banning of tobacco is very
Making College tuition free would over-all result in a more educated society. “We have made K-12 education free because it is good for the individual and for society. The same is true for higher education” (Page).

U.S. PIRG, or the federation of state Public Interest Research Groups. We work as a group to stand up for special interests on the behalf of the American public, working to get solid results for everyones health and well being. With a strong network of researchers, advocates, organizers and students in state capitals across the country, like Andre Delattre our Executive Director. we take on the special interests on issues such as product safety, public health, campaign finance reform, tax and budget reform and consumer protection, where these interests stand in the way of reform and progress.
With affordable college, people would have more freedom to expand talents, try new ideas, and pursue the lives they want. Without worrying about crushing debt, these people would have more freedom to live their lives to the fullest. That could lead to happier citizens, which would make our nation more prosperous as a whole. This is known as Happiness Economics, which states that people who are happier work harder, and that places with happier people “had higher retail sales, which improves the economic climate and helps lessen the effects of a recession”, according to a study done by Gallup-Healthways Well
As it is, there is about $1 trillion in college debt in America. A Philadelphia Enquirer article warns that, “The average debt owed per person is $25,000 -- the highest level of student debt in the nation's history,” and that the number is increased by tens of thousands of dollars for those who go on to get higher degrees. $25,000 is a lot but the reality is that a lot of people have even more than that. For example, what if someone goes to an expensive private college and their tuition is anywhere between 30 and 70 thousand per year. In total they could be paying between 120 and 240 thousand dollars per year. The majority of the country is most likely unable to easily pay for that and could end up with extensive amounts of debt just because they went to the college that they wanted to. Student’s education shouldn’t be compromised just because the school they want to go to has a high tuition. Alarmingly, “Study after study has shown the number one barrier to attending college is the published rate of tuition.”(Lowe) The amount of student debt as a result of a school’s high tuition should decide where people should go to school. If tuition is decreased then simultaneously, student debt would be as well.
This problem might in fact serve the public good if the tuition cost do indeed decrees. Allowing tuition costs to lower will make more people intrigued to want to go to college. If spending costs towards higher education are decrease this would then make tuition more expensive. Without college degrees people wont be able to get a majority of the jobs in the United States. In order for america to be successful we need people to create and have jobs pushing america to a working revolution allowing americans to be superior against other
Why should college tuition even get considered to be lowered? Washington Center for Equitable Growth found that “Student debt nearly quadrupled over the past 15 years” (WCEG). That sort of intake of debt is not healthy for an economy. In an economy, the higher debt that people have than the higher risk of a mass default. A mass default in a sector the size of 1.1 trillion dollars would be a massive recession, and an overall mass default could have the consequences of crippling the banking system. Banks also deal out loans in other sectors such as housing and auto. Mass bankruptcies would harm the entire system. Mezza and Sommer, Federal Reserve Board of
College tuition has been increasing over the years and recent American college graduates have been in great debt. People have been debating over what the cause is for years, but there are two particular differing causes we’ll be focusing on. The Editorial Board is a very diverse staff of writers from USA Today who’ve had experience in journalism covering serious newsworthy topics and events and received degrees in journalism. According to the article, “Making College More Expensive”, the Editorial Board states that as a whole, American college students and graduates owe about $1.2 trillion. The democratic presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley, have plans to make college affordable and aid students with their debt by making taxpayers pay more so that the money can go into Pell grants. Barmak Nassirian thinks otherwise. Nassirian is a nationally known policy analyst at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and a federal aid expert who serves as a voice on higher education issues. In his article, “Tell States to do Their Share”, Nassirian believes that state disinvestment is the cause of college tuition increase because public colleges are becoming privatized. The Editorial Board and Nassirian use the three major appeals to persuade the audience to their reasonings for the college affordability problem. They further their purpose by trying to prove to the audience that their point is valid.
Paying for college should not be the hardest part. Lowering the cost of tuition would lead to less student debt and allow more students to attend college, which would increase the amount of educated people in the general public. Due to the fact that a college degree is necessary for most people to achieve success in today’s society, it should be cheaper or even free. Many entry-level jobs won’t hire people without a degree, and having one gives graduates more options.
For decades the price of a college education has increased dramatically. Therefore the debt on college students has also increased rapidly on an average of seven percent a year. This high debt as well as extreme interest rates combined with the lack of well/good paying jobs is leaving United States(US) students with severe debt. If the price of college was more affordable for the average person, there would be less educational debt in the United States.
Higher education costs have been increasing at a rapid pace, faster than inflation for the economy as a whole, for the past fifty years. It started in the 1960’s when the federal government passed the Higher Education Act to increase the amount of people able to afford and attend college. Regardless of the Unites States Government efforts to increase the affordability of college, federal aid programs have not risen to expectations due to the ever-increasing college prices. To lower the price of college, the government needs to cut back on student financial spending to go only to the lowest income families and create tax incentives for families to start saving up on their own.
The waiving of college tuition would benefit the economy and society due to the ease of getting a college education. College tuition is a stress that almost every student who goes to earn a four-year degree goes through in their life. Actually, those who even earn their associates, a certification, or even those who go to a two-year college may come across the difficulty for their tuition. College tuition should be waived for all students who go into a field that involves direct beneficiary to humans such as, doctors and teachers.
College tuition is a subject that I am certain is on every college student's mind. The current cost of college has become so outrageously high and so students are graduating college with what you think is a feeling of excitement for their lives starting, when in reality they are entering a pool of stress due to high amounts of debt and no job guarantees. With that being said overly expensive College Tuition is merely taking away opportunities from potential students. According to Collegefactual.com, you will see that 20 years ago the average college tuition for a student at any University was around $6,285 for the room, board, and tuition. Today, according to Niche.com, the average tuition for almost any college is over $30,000 for those same things. Today, this isn't even offered for those same colleges, we don’t even know what is actually causing the raising tuition. At this point in time, we are paying for the name. Just like clothing, we pay more for the “high end” (a.k.a the college name) items. This is an issue that not only affects college students, but people who want a good education. College tuition should be lowered because the average student debt is too high, FAFSA results can be misleading and not high enough, and there is not enough access to college for deserving students.
Tobacco kills five million people yearly, which is much more then HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis, and Malaria combined, according to International Union Against Cancer. This addicting drug can in fact end up giving the user a death sentence. As the body grows older, the DNA atoms can be mutated by this seemingly harmless plant. This mutation of cells can eventually spread and the user will end up with a body full of cancer. These cancer sticks or cigarettes are not only harmful to your body but also hard on your wallet. The eradication of the use of tobacco would deplete the health risks associated with tobacco, and would put needed money back into the people’s wallets.
As the government keeps making more and more cuts to the higher education budget to try and reduce the federal debt, and as public universities are needing more and more money to keep the school running properly, my tuition costs are steadily increasing every year, at an average rate of 2-4% higher than the inflation rate (Belkin, 2013). This one really hits close to home for a lot of students because the average college student cannot afford to pay tuition on his or her own and so they are forced to take out loans, which in turn adds to the federal debt even more. It makes me wonder who is really benefiting from any of
