The theatrical performance Love Sick directed by the polished Mr. Landmann and performed by the talented pupils of Desert Hot Springs High School is a fascinating play filled with entertaining, amusing and even dramatic scenes. I attended this humorous play on October 27 at 3:30 pm, the first play performed. The play is built off of nine separate acts all based upon the seek for authentic love. The play was predominantly about nine separate acts which were all relatively similar. All acts have distinct backgrounds, but they all involve the two characters striving for true love regardless if the two just met or they have known each other for years. In my opinion, the play went along smoothly and everything was comprehensible, but the only event
Last April Something Rotten! came to Broadway at the St. James Theatre on 44th Street.
Overall it held my attention. The comedy injected into this play allowed for the more poignant messages to be driven home. I could relate to the respective arguments of the two men. It makes you
Sweet Charity was based on a young girl from New York City in the 1960’s who continued to have hope she would one day find her true love. Charity Hope Valentine was a dance hall hostess and her passion for dancing and singing, giggling and sobbing is what kept her going. The director of the play, Douglas S. Hall, and choreographer Allison Blanchard put their superlative ideas together to create an audience loving, jaw dropping, interacting play. To create a production portraying exactly what it needs to takes time and effort, but Douglas Hall and Allison Blanchard seemed to have no problem doing this when the play was finished. In order to correctly portray the story plot, costumes, set, and diction were all aspects contributing to the final product.
The theatrical work being discussed in this critique is the 2016 revival of the broadway musical She Loves Me. This production was directed by Scott Ellis and produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company. The first revival performance of She Loves Me took the stage on February 19th, 2016 with the final performance being on July 10th, 2016. This romantic comedy is describing the story of two pen pals who fall in love through countless letters , addressing each other as “ Dear Friend “. Set in 1930s Hungary , mainly taking place in and outside of Mr.Maraczek’s Parfumerie . Amalia Balash and Georg Nowack, work in the shop together, strongly disliking each other, but coincidentally are the two letter correspondents. When the “Dear Friends” are finally supposed to meet at the Cafe Impériale, Georg realising that his pen-pal is
The play Wicked, written by American lyricist Stephen Schwartz, was a play that demonstrated several conflicts that a person went through during their lifetime. Elphaba, the protagonist, was born with green skin because of a choice that her mother made. She had to deal with the fear and the looks that people gave her because of her appearance. Elphaba dealt with the mockery of others during her years in school. When reading the play, one could compare Elphaba’s circumstances to discrimination or racism towards African Americans in the nineteen sixties. In college, she discovered that she had magical powers that she could use for good. The people in the town of Oz stereotyped her and assumed she was a witch who wanted to harm everyone because of her
Overall, the play went well. The actors and the main idea of the play was a metanoia. It was a life changing experience which was very entertaining but drastically scary for a fool’s luck. I loved the play but it changed my perspective on getting
I will be honest with you I had a lot of trouble enjoying the play, like I said the dialect gave me trouble, plus my seats were not that great. I did however like the movie quite a bit, but I realize I am a product of a different generation as well. I have been brought up around TV and movies rather than plays
In essence, the play is a love story; it would work well even without any elements of conflict. However, this love story is
In conclusion, I thought this play was a great choice for me to see at the theatre. I was glad I went to see it because it made me realize that your opinion doesn’t have to be the most popular opinion. I need to stand up for what I believe in and that is what this play taught me. I do prefer a comedy over a tragedy and I am upset with the ending but I cannot complain because I enjoyed this play very
After watching the play “The Wit,” I was filled with mixed emotions. When I first encountered wit, as a freshman, I didn't realize how poorly the doctors were treating Vivian Bearing; I just thought they were just doing they're job. Not having the same mindset as I did back when I was a freshman, I could now see the numerous amounts of professional mistakes made by staff who came across Doctor Bearing while she was at the hospital. Its truly unfortunate when the people who must take care of you when you're at your weakest don't even see you as a person. When one of the doctors called Vivian “research,” it caught me by surprise and made me so angry because she wasn't a lab rat, she was a person who was suffering greatly. In addition to that
On October 19th, 2017, I had the honor to attend the Indiana State University production of A Piece of My Heart. This play could be considered a historical documentary and was full of drama, thrill, and action. A Piece of My Heart was originally written by Shirley Lauro, a very popular play writer with many other well-known plays. The play was based around 6 extremely strong and opinionated women who were sent to the Vietnam War to either help or entertain the American Men. Consisting of 5 army nurses, one country singer, and multiple different army men the production was able to provide a full understanding of how life was in Vietnam during the war. This play was performed by Indiana State University students.
The play is dramatic, exciting, and little bit confusing. The conversation took in the play was too fast, so that in some parts I do not really understand the conversation. The story was exciting and carrying the feminism issue in which woman shows her power in the marriage but still in the end of story she frustrated under the man’s power. The story is kind of tragedy drama, in which someone killed herself to avoid the reality that she becomes person of interest in criminal case. I like either the setting of the stage and the costumes. Moreover, the lighting was so eye catching and attracted the audience to feel like in the Victorian era. In addition, the act of the performers was also good. The artists performed very well. However, sometimes they could not cover the conversation by developing improvisation when they forgot the scenario.
Theatre is an open-book created by intellects to expose challenging views to the topic of life, not merely a medium of sugarcoated escapism. One musical theatre practitioner that has the artistic identity of going against the majority in the aspect of theme and style is Stephen Sondheim. The availability of alternative perspectives is what Sondheim has evidently chosen to offer in his amount of work that includes: Passion, in collaboration with James Lapine. Passion raised the question on how love should be: conventional or illicit.
To analysis this play, one should first look into the playwright, William Shakespeare, and see if he has tendencies to certain styles or genres. Shakespeare wrote about thirty-seven plays during his lifetime. Amanda Mabillard explained, “However, no one can know for certain because of the inexact documentation at the time the plays were first being organized and published” (para. 1). This meant that many of his plays might had been lost or forgotten. Of the thirty-seven plays he wrote ten tragedies, seventeen comedies, and ten histories. William followed these genres to the end; however, he did not follow the classical models. These innovations made it harder for the types of genre to be recognized because they all started to blur
The story is a mixture of love, lust, seduction, death, honor and glory. It has a hint of everything which makes the act probably one of the best plays in English literature.
