The loud hum of a plane gliding over the sky, the cracks and fissures in the roads, and the unavoidable force of urbanization takes tool in Ashburn. As more businesses and industries spotted this area as a place to base their companies, the population and overall environment is rapidly changing. There is no surprise that Ashburn is a great place to live, but many things about it can be improved. We as a community face many problems like unemployment and pollution, both of which has grown to be very problematic as more people started to move to this area. I think the most doable and necessary improvements are within our neighborhoods, our environment, and our school system. The current way communities are organized sets neighbors …show more content…
We as a community are all able to contribute to alleviating this problem. We pay a big amount of taxes, and it is reasonable to say that we can have a say in how to spend some of them. The community would be a much better place if the government, as well as some more fortunate individuals, are able to spend money on efforts to preserve our pristine environment. Many charities and organizations of people we could trust would spend this money appropriately, and it would be great if more people supported these groups. It would also be helpful if the government leaders can legislate stricter regulations in terms of infrastructure’s pollution limits. The Loudoun County region is quickly urbanizing, and it would be very beneficial if we can continue to grow without any damage to our climate. In practicality, many things can make sure of this. For instance, the local council could enforce that all construction and industrial processes are done by the most modern and eco-friendly technology. Some might argue that this would drive industries away, but I think that the businesses that would leave are not appropriate for our community to house anyway. Our community could also do with more parks and reserves in the area. Driving around the city, I see that lush, dense woods that house a great number of organisms are being cleared out for more offices and buildings. This is somewhat inevitable, but I think there should …show more content…
As a student in Trailside, I appreciate greatly the advanced technology we have access to, like an array of iPads and computers. However, I think that my education has been somewhat generalized and objectified by the Standards of Learning exams. Because of common core, students have been confined under the same destination-to pass their SOL examinations and their class. Because of common core, school scheduling have greatly decreased in the variety of courses offered. The standards of learning assumes a baseline knowledge that students should possess to “pass the class.” This standard could be useful to guide in lesson planning, but has taken up everything students learn entirely. For example, I am taking a high school level course this year, Algebra one. I came into the class over-prepared with knowledge I have learned over the summer. I was extremely upset to find out that students in this community only offers one level of the class, the base level that barely scrapes by the SOL standards and is designed purely for the student to pass it. A good representation of this would be that we spent an entire quarter in the class learning arithmetic and variable manipulations, something that was taught to us repeatedly in previous two years of math. This unit was likely implemented only because the SOLs listed it as a skill we need to possess. After reading the course description, I

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--On Wednesday, West Virginia baseball standouts Kyle Gray, Jimmy Galusky and BK Myers were drafted on the final day of the MLB Draft. The three joined pitcher Michael Grove, who was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round on Monday night.
Being able to retain highly educated individuals was one of the tangible benefits of the creation of the DBAP. Increasing the city’s population has led to greater tax revenue, job opportunities, and overall community strength. In part due to the construction of the DBAP, the once depressed downtown now boasts a higher population that hasn’t been seen since the area was dominated by tobacco

LACEY TWP-Ocean County went against the majority for the governor's race Tuesday, voting for Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, the Republican nominee 97,737 to 56,279, according to the county’s unofficial live election results.
Before the Civil War, Stafford County was a rural area. The 1860 census indicated 8,555 people lived in the county and there were no urban areas with a population of more than 2,500 people. There were 4,922 whites and 3,633 blacks of which 3,314 were slaves. There were 476 farms in the county, fifty-one percent of farms were between 100 to 500 acres produced 148,975 pounds of tobacco as their largest crop.
Harford County is a fast growing jurisdiction between 1990 to 2010 the county’s population grew from 182,132 to 244,826. Some of the reasons the county has seen such a great population growth is due to job opportunities. Employment in the county has steadily continued to grow making Harford county have a very low unemployment rates better than other counties in the state of Maryland. (HCHD, 2012).
Problem Identification: Prince George’s County children and youth face many challenges when it comes to getting a quality education because of political, lack of quality educators, and communities involvement.
A junior in Brownsboro High School, Ashley Dixon was asked an important question, “What improvement would you like to see in Brownsboro/Chandler.” In receiving this question, Dixon pondered for a while and gave her response : “ I would like to see more places to eat, more areas of entertainment, and new schools hopefully soon.” However, she added, “the only issue is that they would have to raise the taxes, and find some investors, but overall, it would make the lifestyle here more entertaining. We would also expand the area and hopefully attract more people into town.” Altogether, Dixon just wants the best for her hometown, her family and her peers.
Having lived in Maryland all of my life, I’m extremely surprised by the amount of pollution that happens in my home state. The first example of water pollution that I’ve found is the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. I haven’t visited the area recently, but according to an article by author Alex DeMetrick, it has the dubious reputation of being one of Maryland’s polluted sections. DeMetrick states that “Trash is the most obvious pollutant, but that’s only the surface problem. A lot more spills out of storm drains.” (DeMetrick, 2011). Not only is the issue of trash and sewage affecting the area’s environmental stability and visual appeal, but is also taking a toll on income and revenue as well. One of the main attractions of the inner Harbor is its
Like most cities, Alexandria, Virginia faces a series of environmental challenges ranging from climate change and rising energy costs to problems of air quality and traffic congestion (Eco-City Alexandria, 2007). City officials recognize the need for a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to effectively address environmental issues, but Alexandria’s real challenge is pulling together all of their respective plans, programs, and policies and then coordinating them across existing city departments (Eco-City Alexandria, 2007). Like many communities, Alexandria has launched new environmental policies, plans, and programs related to: water quality, parks and open spaces, land use, solid waste, energy and green buildings, transportation,
The Ashburn neighborhood has a comfortably middle class appearance that makes it seem far removed from the grittiness of the inner cities. This residential suburban development is mostly populated by single-family homes, which is a major commodity in an urban setting such as Baltimore. Although each home is firmly marked by ADT Security posts on each lawn, the overall feeling this place gives is a relaxed sense of security.
An issue that was present in few specific cities in Maryland have now expanded throughout the entire state. The Chesapeake Bay, a large estuary that has an extremely complex ecosystem that is vital to important habitats and food webs in this area. The Chesapeake bay is arguably one of the most productive environments in the United States. Over the years, this bay has been in a decline of wellness. Pollution, contaminants, and many other factors are destroying the overall well being of these waters, and completely messing up the important ecosystem that has been built there. Although there is an extreme amount of Marylanders fighting for the restoration of the Chesapeake, there are also who are not.
The people have to take moment and figure out how we are going change the problem to pollution to help better their community. Well the people of Detroit is not on their own its companies that want to help the city. JP Morgan Chase a major bank company around the country will donate 100 million dollars to help the economic recovery and strengthen the communities with a 5 year commitment (Hower, n.d.para.1). Chase have steps and certain projects they will do to start helping the city get back on their feet after filing for bankruptcy not too long
Education in the United States is in an abysmal state. It continues to spiral downward as students and educators fail to meet standards. The standards are then altered on a patchwork basis throughout the states. The goal is no longer to have a high standard educational system. The goal now is to maintain the status quo, allowing students and educators to strive for the minimum. There is no common approach to achieve success. Incipit Tragoedia, in comes the Common Core, agreed upon by educators, politicians, and
