The criminal mind is a place of nightmarish pain, suffering, chaos and delusion. What causes someone seemingly living a healthy live in a nice suburban neighbourhood lose themselves to criminal behaviour? How does one achieve this mindset, must you be born with it or do you somehow acquire it through experiences and situations you are surrounded with in everyday life? It makes more logical sense that someone would be influenced to crime through people they know, experiences and situations they have been placed in, and televised entertainment that portrays criminal behaviour. Violence surrounds our culture. If a child sees a fight glorified on the television then that will most likely leave an impact on the way that same child views other things, “that guy in the fight is so cool, fighting is cool.” It could and has been argued that television can’t possibly impact the way people think to this extent, that it must just be human nature to be inclined to violent activity in our lives. Well it could be said that what we see and hear impacts on what we think, correct? Well do we not see and hear television and experience this violence, sex, drugs, and crime glorified each and every day? Well then through logic it is obvious that the viewing of these things impacts the way we think. Also looking at the fact that what we think seems to seriously impact the actions and decisions that we make as human beings in everyday life. For example, a human sees another human smoke a joint and then begin to laugh uncontrollably. This is either going to make the human viewing the action 1) curious about what the human smoking is experiencing or 2) scare the human from wanting to get into that mindset. What is imminent is that it is going to affect the human’s way of thinking and then impact the next decision that the same human is posed with in a similar situation.
