a)Describe the way the scenes/plot depicted in the film are different to/similar than those in the novel
The film depicts the setting to be a large city with many skyscrapers, but a very gloomy atmosphere. Even though these details were not described in the novel, this seems appropriate considering the post-apocalyptic world. Various scenes of the novel were removed from the movie such as Rick with his wife. Various characters were renamed and many characters were removed. For example, Phil Resch, and Irmgard Baty are not even in the movie. The main theme of the movie did not convey the same message as the novel as it did not go into the topic of Mercerism or Empathy at all. Instead, the movie created a suspenseful action movie, but it still pertained the philosophical feeling.

It became a term so familiar with the viewer/reader that it almost felt like a real entity. Also, Rick’s job as a bounty hunter was called a blade runner in the movie (hence the name), but this kept his motifs and the goal of his job.

f) Elaborate on how the themes from the novel are exemplified (or not) in the film
The theme of empathy did not come out in the film. Throughout the novel, empathy was the quality that separated androids from humans, but in the movie, it wasn’t apparent. The Voigt-Kampff empathy test was used, but the view could not genuinely see the lack of empathy in the actors of the androids. Also, the concept of real versus fake was lacking in the movie since there was not enough character development for the androids or humans. Therefore, it was difficult to contrast androids with humans if the viewer wasn’t told who was an android.
